The Dark Knight Rises Tom Hardy as Bane V

The ironic thing about Two-Face's appearance in TDK is that the one time Nolan went completely comic booky and extreme is the one time I wanted him to do it more realistically.

I am excited to see what Hardy can do as Bane. Nolan's no slouch, he obviously wowed him in the audition. His voice is going to be bad ass.

It's weird how one of people's main problems with the casting is that Hardy is not the size of an adult elephant. A human being cannot play Bane like he is when he's ANIMATED. FFS

Nobody has suggested this. You're imagining things.

Maybe not animated Bane size, but these guys are pretty damn close.

What stopped Hardy from looking like that is a lack of time. Getting big like that basically means turning going to the gym into your career.

Yeah, he didn't have much time to prepare. 2-3 months, right?

*not being sarcastic

Yeah to get seriously jacked like that you'd have to spend a good year working out. You cant get decent results in a few months, but to get that sort of wrestlers physique you need to train long and hard, and that's obviously something an actor can't afford to do.

I agree 100% bodybuilding takes along time. How long has it been since wb said hardy was bane?

Well, maybe they could have done something similar to Dwayne's contracts. He has workout time in his contracts so he can always make sure to go to the gym.

Size, sure. But not in ability.
Bane, as he originally appeared, was the size of an above average man. I personally hope they go towards the Knightfall Bane. Casting someone like that would mean it's the 90's again with an oversized piece of beef grunting.

He's big enough, what impressed me about the image was just how big he had gotten. The man's back nearly takes up the whole screen so yeah, I've no problems with his size.

Re: the comparison to Bale, I'm not worried about Hardy's frame and how intimidating it is in comparison to Bale's. It's all about the acting at the end of the day, if he brings the same dedication to the role that he did to Bronson then I'm sure he's going to be one scary ****er as Bane.

The thing is, Hardy is a big guy. He's not tall, but his build lends itself to looking big. He has broad shoulders, a thick neck and an overall stocky build. Even in Inception he looked formidable. But his biggest asset is his back. It's incredibly broad. There's a reason why the first image of Bane is showing his back. Even the most dedicated gym goer would kill for a back like that.

His short stature and wide build really works in his favour, because any weight he puts on will make him look that much bigger. And if you make him look taller than Bale on screen, he will appear as big as The Rock.

Tom Hardy isn't The Rock though, The Rock makes his living by playing muscle bound action guys and doing the odd piece for WWE here and there, his career choice dictates he always looks that ripped.

Being as big as The Rock requires dedication. Either you look like that all the time or you don't at all. If Hardy wants to have other roles that don't require a musclebound actor, he can't be as big as Dwayne Johnson. It's just not feasible.

I think it can also limit your movie roles or typecast you. But big guys are needed for roles.

There's gotta be a compromise somewhere along the line from fans. You can't expect good actors to get ridiculously huge, you just can't, it takes time which is something they usually don't have a lot of. The thing some might not realize is as long as it takes to get as huge as wrestler types, it can also take a long time to lose that size and return your body to normal, effectively meaning you're potentially missing out on other lucrative work.

Why would you compare an actor with a professional athlete in terms of proportions? It's just silly.

Hardy can't go from 5'9 to 6'4 260. He's probably 5'9 205lbs as Bane. That's THICK.

Finally someone is talking sense.

People have always been talking sense. This whole "I want Bane to be 7 feet tall and 500lbs" business simply doesn't exist.

Well I think hes at a point where FX will fix the rest just like they did in 300.

I think the way this promo picture was shot, along with Bane's wardrobe (or lack thereof) is very telling.

Nolan clearly understands that Bane's size is a major element to the character. I think that, had he felt Hardy was inadequately sized, he would've dressed the character in some sort of tactical outfit or something (which would've been terrible) instead of having him shirtless, as well as making this type of picture our first image of the character (it could've been a headshot instead).

Yea, I don't think Hardy will be enhanced with SFX in any way. Nolan is obviously happy with the guy. He cast him because he's a great actor and he has proven to be able to be physically intimidating.

Gee, I could have sworn that the current turn to this discussion was a result of the suggestion that Hardy should wear a muscle suit because he's not big enough, and comments that would make you think Hardy's arms look like toothpicks.

People have been whining about how he'll never be the size of comic book Bane, comparing him to a midget, etc., ever since he was cast. And since comic book Bane is probably about the size that you just described, yes, it does exist.
