Tom Welling as Superman

Well yes they have been saying they want a 9th season but also in the new todd/darren interview they clearly stated they have plans to wrap the show up and plans if they are able to go. So its really up to Cw if the show is going to go on, ratings, and then the willing if tom and others signing for another year. Now if tom and others dont sign and cw wants them to continue then i see either jla/green arrow spin off then happening. but there is so many factors as i and others said for a 9th. And we have to wait and see how season 8 does in ratings, where the network is as a network, etc......

I think you're right, Zing. Tom would be far more welcome in the role by the general public than disgruntled SR fans would otherwise like to think...

I think he'd own the role, but given a terrific script and less arrogant, self-aggrandizing direction, almost anyone with some acting skill and the right look would probably do okay...

Just think how excellent Tom would be with the right script and the right director!

If they can get the right combination with Tom in the role, I'll be first in line at the midnight showing and will probably skip work the next day to see it again at the first showing during daylight hours too...
SR had fans?! :wow:

Every piece of logic and twisted quote about Welling not wanting to play the character kind of goes out the window if there's a season 9 of Smallville.

I would think that when Tom signed on for the 8th season it wouldve settled this debate considering his initial contract was for only season's 1-7, same as Rosenbaum and Kreuk.

I posted these cropped shots in the Drooling Thread, but they seem extremely fitting for this thread as well.

They are from Odyssey - but aside from being pictures of Clark alive and well (which seriously isn't exactly a spoiler), nothing spoilery is revealed.

'Nuff said! :supes:

my god, he looks gorgeous. how could someone who is bloody look so good.

Well he is looking pretty good and thats coming from a straight guy here. To bad they only went with scruffy look and not a full on beard lol. Would have been cool for a full on beard as we seen him do during the off seasons before.

Hopefully, we'll get some shirtless scenes so I can add to my icon!

:D

Well when the reports of a beard on clark came out i was thinking back to 2006 when tom during hiatus had a full on beard.

Actually about Tom's contract it i believe was originally for 5 seasons but then when season 5 ended he resign to a 3 yr deal that runs through season 8. Now his contract is up this year so if the show is indeed picked up for a 9th he will have to be resigned and at this time we dont know if he would want to do it or not.

I like this suit concept for OUR Superman. Anyone care to expand on this with a Welling rendition? :cwink:

Nah here's hoping this is the last season. The writers are CLEARLY running out of ideas and that episode where Chloe and Jimmy were freakin spies was the biggest pile of evidence and manure I've ever seen! Anyway, when the season ends, hopefully the WB would go full force to do what it takes to get Welling in the suit. Have you seen Welling up close? Dude is freakin huge! He's perfect as Supes. Routh......not so much. :o

Man i wouldve LOVED to have seen ZOD in something like that-with his emblem of course.

Always thought it was strange how Supermans suit is supposed to be his Kryptonian outfit yet nobody on Krypton wears anything like it.....

....and I dont by Martha Kent making it for him one little bit! :oldrazz:

My fellow Superman fans, Tom Welling supporters, and friends. Since the first casting war we all united in discussion about how great it would be to see Tom Welling finally wear the suit and become Superman. We made manips, argued our points of view, and defended our choice passionately. In the end we got Superman Returns, and four more years of Smallville in return. Today, we find ourselves in the situation once again. Today I say we do more than just talk, but act! If we truly want this dream to become reality, we will have to give as much support as we can.

Firstly, I have started a new petition, one that will be alerted to the WB and others: http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/tomwelling4supes

Secondly, on the petiton there is refference to our next way to show our support, you can also access ths information here: http://www.myspace.com/tomwelling4superman

Tim Burton, is that you?

The entire main cast were signed to what were effectively 7 year deals. Seasons 6 and 7 may have been studio options that involved a bump up in salary, but 7 years was the max term. I believe Welling and Durance tacked on the 8th seasons sometime in the middle of last season when the strike was looming.

Not sure you'd really want to direct the petition and/or letters to guys like Noveck and Tull. Certainly not Noveck as he has no say in who WB casts. He's more of an advisor from the comic realm if anything.

I also dont know how much input that Legendary has into the creatve decisions made with WB films? I cant imagine its much, I think they're main concern is just on the financial side of things. If anything you'd want something like this targeted at guys like Horn and Robinov who would have to sign off on cast and crew for the film.

Honestly, I think the WB wouldn't mind seeing Welling in costume for a big screen movie. Remember, they gave Singer full control of the movie so he casted who HE wanted. Plus there's the whole Gough and Miller's not letting Welling do it due to his Smallville thing......there was a lot of factors. I think if they start to shoot in February or March, I think it could very well be possible for Welling to do it.

I dont think you have to worry about February or March. I honestly dont think you'll see a new Supes film until at least Christmas 2010 or Summer 2011 at this point. Both of which would give Tom ample time after Smallville's end to do it. Unless of course they decide to drag Smallville out for a 9th season, then you'd run into potential timing issues with a Christmas 2010 release.

Well i always remember reading the cast original was signed for 5 yrs then whitney actor left after season 1, sam left at end of season 3, and johnathn middle of season 5. Then i read when tom signed new contract at end of season 5 it was a 3 yr deal that made it he was signed through an 8th yr where as allison/erica/michael/kristen were only signed through season 7. Then we are where we are at.

Awesome, Ganc.

You might want to add the names that Hulk added below to the list of people to contact.

I think you imagined that....Why would they sign Tom to a 3 year deal 5 years into a show that they didnt know was going to last another season at the time? And why would they then only sign Michael for 2? Doesnt make any sense. They all had 7 year deals going in. After that each cast member re-ups one year at a time.
