Torchwood - Part 1

is anyone else having trouble staying interested, lasts night episode was good but the "twist" was about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the nuts

Exactly. When they even mentioned category 1 I thought "Yeah they're burning them aren't they?" It was so glaringly obvious and made the Torchwood team seem quite moronic. And the second the stereotypical southern creep walked out, it became immediately clear how it was going to go down.

It's a shame. Such wasted potential. I only hope that the next half delivers.

And Christian Bale isn't even Welsh.

I would say besides Hopkins and Zeta Jones Welsh actors people may of heard of are ... Ioan Gruffudd (Mr Fantastic in Fanastic Four)

No no no, that movie, and its worse sequel, never happened.

The guy who went loony with the gun felt forced. The black fellow who was banging the white doctor woman didn't really seem all the bothered she was getting cooked. It was kinda bad acting, in most episodes, he's cool and one of the most likable.

Really? You're are the first person I've heard who actually likes Rex, most people hate him with a passion.

Have you guys never watched Torchwood before RTD has always written heavy handed and annonying characters :)

Jacks game of Peek-a-Boo with Oswald was stupid.

Yea he's cool. The thing when he gave Jack the finger while going into the ambulance made me laugh loudly. I also liked when he set the ditzy blond girl straight for being a dummy. Also unlike Welsh people or campy Jack he's seems to me alot more convincing that he could actually kick butt. The main character draw though is probably Bill Pullman, I think he's clearly the talent by a mile. The whole wonderous leading the people scenes, is kinda getting reptitive though, they need to deliver.

I hate how Jack is being upstaged by Oswald. I mean the whole draw of torchwood and the whole reason it was green lit and watched in the first place is because of Jack. Now Jack is sort of in the background and has become unbelievably dull.

It makes me laugh that Captain Jack has become a background character in his own spin off show.

i've watched them all, but the fact this is dragging on far to long. 5 episodes would have been fine

and yes all of torchwood's characters are annoying but it does take a lot to knock gwen and jack off the top teir

Maybe it's the American in me, but I was never drawn to Torchwood because of Jack.

I was drawn to the fact that they were a team battling alien creatures and larger than life stuff.

My problem with THIS season is that the show looks like it's filmed on a budget. It's taking FOREVER for anything to happen. Actually, nothing has really happened yet other than people have stopped dying.

All my favorite new sci fi shows appear to have been held back because everyone is trying to figure out how to stay under budjet.

Falling Skies....whole season and nothing really new happens from episode 1 up to the season finale.

Alphas...love the show, but it's really a bunch of B level adventures so far. (Compare to the first 5 episodes of Heroes, which felt "big")

Torchwood...love the cast, love the idea...but I'm hating the execution. This seasons show doesn't even feel like Torchwood. After 6 episodes we STILL don't know whose causing the EVENT.

Rambling done. :D

^^ Totally agree.

I love how Gwen was protesting against the burning of category ones so just blew the compound where they were held up anyway incinerating them in the process.

You gotta love it

Yea and the super evil power on the phone, that can talk, orders her to use her eye thingy, because, there is an even higher evil power listening in? Or something? Wut?
Maybe they figured she had hearing problems and wanted to give her some subtitles to read.

Uhm... she just blew up the incinerators. Category 1's aren't stored inside them but are only taken there to be incinerated. Not sure how you missed that seeing as it was the entire plot on Gwen's side of the story - rescue her father before the government moved him.

Rule of Drama and Rule of Cool.

The guy was trying to make a point by showing that he/they had hacked their system. How much is compromised remains to be seen (a likely subplot) and this will explain why they won't be using the contact lenses again (except maybe to contact this new faction or to try tricking them).

But she wasn't shocked by that. She was shocked by the random phone call specifically aimed at her. The point was clearly made before running into the toilet to play 24 season 1.
And her family man, who gives a flying crap? I mean serously, how much time did they waste her door-stop of a character father? Chances are, you probably have more emphathy for Bill Pullman's character. Regardless of what he is suppose he to, he's a character, not a door-stop. We need more of him and the hot six feet under girl next episode me thinks.

Sorry I must have fallen asleep at that part on account of how mind numbingly boring the episode was.

God this episode was ****. More plot holes than you could shake a stick at.

And if I hear Rex saying "Torchwood" is his obnoxious manner for no bloody reason one more time, the tv's going out the window.

Last nights episode reminds me why I have a like\loathe feeling towards torchwood. RTD writes characters like idiots sometimes

Damn this show gets better with every episode. I loved tonights episode and I can't wait till next weeks show. :D
