Torchwood

There's nothing wrong with having sex in Torchwood. It just wasn't handled very well. While I've (begrudgingly) come to accept Jack and Ianto's relationship, I found the fact that they were having meaningless sex in the first series annoying as hell. Jack killed Ianto's girlfriend Lisa, Ianto pledged to never forgive him for it, and they were having sex roughly 4 episodes later. It's like the producers just couldn't help but defy all logic for the sake of 2 more characters shacking up. The second episode featured an alien that killed people by having sex with them, and Gwen ending up making out with it/her for an obligatory girl-on-girl scene. Not that it matters, because we got an official girl-on-girl episode when Tosh had sex with an alien 5 episodes later. The first episode featured Owen practically raping 2 people.

It was excessive. The show should have been about character interactions and fighting aliens. The first series concentrated so heavily on sex, the characters themselves were lacking. That's why series 2 was so much better.

Martha was going to join but I think Freema (the actress who plays her) is leaving to join some British spin off of an American law show.

I for one didn't mind the sex in Torchwood.I actually did think it was handled in a sensible manner, not trying to hide anything or trying to appeal to kids all the time for example.
Yeah...
I know...
I posted that WAY before all this Freema being a "traitor" and all that crap.
I don't see why he can't do the 5 episodes AND Law and Order (It's THE American Law Show. It's been on since I was born.)
I mean...it's only five episodes...not like it's a whole series... It'll be like filming a movie while doing a TV show, which is something people do all the time.

I don't know. British actors aren't used to doing the hours American actors are. If you work on an American show, prepare to film 20 episodes, work 14 hour days, and only get 30 minutes for lunch. If you're on a British show, prepare to do 5-13 episodes, work 4 hour days, and get a full hour of lunch inbetween.

I don't know how the hell Hugh Laurie made the transition.

Because he's Hugh Laurie!
I hate House (the show itself, but not the character), but I think he's an amazing actor.

We don't **** around when it comes to our TV shows....

I hear the right to use whips on the actors is a major point of contention for the next directors' guild contract renegotiation.

Jack's back: new Torchwood season unveiled
The wait is nearly over. The world's least competent secret agents are back, as the new series of Torchwood previews on the BBC website from today. But what can we expect from Captain Jack and his minions in series three of this sci-fi Scooby-Doo for grown-ups?
New lineup

You might think that by now Jack would have realised that he is in charge of a posse of insubordinate incompetents, and got rid of the lot of them. Sadly, that's not the case. Owen and Tosh both died at the end of series two, thanks to Jack's long-lost psychotic brother, Grey, meaning that Torchwood has lost the only two team members who served a discernible purpose: the doctor and the techie.

It was initially rumoured that Martha Jones would be donning the white coat and bringing Rose's friend, Mickey, back with her to take charge of the computers, but that's been scotched since Freema Agyeman decided to jump ship with writer Chris Chibnall to Law & Order: UK.

With no permanent additions announced, Gwen's husband Rhys is dragged along on the team's adventures this time round. Let's hope that whoever does take on the onerous medical duties full-time doesn't have a predilection for drugging passersby and enticing them into sex, and whoever operates the technology manages to have a semi-functional social life.

More awesome guest stars

James Marsters' Captain John Hart was the best thing about the last series, followed closely by Alan Dale's Professor Aaron Copley. So far, we know this series boasts Peter Capaldi and Liz May Brice – yes, murderous top dog Pat Kerrigan from Bad Girls! Marsters has also hinted that he'll be back in Cardiff before too long, but that might just be cruel teasing.
More sex

It wouldn't be Torchwood if people (and aliens) weren't having sex all over the place, all the time. Captain Jack finally has to face the consequences of having random relations with random people when his daughter turns up. Of course, that won't stop him from getting it on with the adorable besuited Ianto.

More standing on roofs and aerial shots of Cardiff
Torchwood went a bit meta in series two when the writers realised that series one had far too many shots of John Barrowman bestriding the tops of Cardiff's tallest buildings – military coat flapping, eyes gazing into the middle distance – and decided to make a running gag of it instead. The first episode saw Ianto tell Jack to inspect the roof with the words "You're good on roofs" – and since then, he's stayed free of vertigo and happily surveyed the entirety of the beautiful Cardiff horizon. In case we forget how picturesque Cardiff is these days, there are plenty of swooping camera shots cut into the story, just to remind us.

Apart from that, the BBC tells us to expect Torchwood's greatest "adrenaline-fuelled, high-octane adventure yet" as the team battle to save the human race. It's difficult to see how they'll fit it in, what with their busy days of sex, roof-standing, incompetence and narcissism, but I think we can safely assume they'll triumph in the end. And if they manage to lose Gwen along the way, so much the better.

Wow, it's like that article was written specifically for me. :)

Really, the addition of Martha and Mickey would've made the show so much more palatable to me. Even with Freema doing whatever, Mickey could've still come along. But instead we get bloody Rhys? Meh. I don't even know if I care to watch this show anymore.

Rhys and Gwen kill this show for me. They could of used Marta, Mickey, Jenny or Captain John but nope we had to get stuck Mary Sue Gwen and her oaf husband.

Hmm. No mention of this season's format. Last I heard they were thinking of doing a five episode mini-series type season, airing them all over the course of a week.

EDIT Nevermind, just looked at the BBC page. Guess that's what they're doing.

Adding Rhys and noone else is dissapointing. I cant wait to see how they balance out these 4 charecters personalitys and still make it interesting.

Seeing as how it's going to be one 5-part story, rather than 13 distinct episodes, they can probably pull it off.

They're adding other people. Maybe not permanently, but other characters will be involved. We see a woman who ain't Gwen talking about whatever funky alien stuff is going on in the preview.

That's Liz May Brice.... I don't know why but I really like the actress so IMO she can only be a plus.

I got the feeling that she was basically Martha's stand-in. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I could see them just casting another young black actress and making some cosmetic changes to the role to differentiate it from Martha but still fill the same niche on the show.

at least you Martha Jones haters have something to cheer about...just saw the trailer it looks good and I am still strangely attracted to John Barrowman...I like Torchwood being a small unit

I wanted to see Martha and Mickey. :csad:

I was more for Mickey, thinking he would become their tech guy....so what is he (the actor) going to do, just continue writing ?

and that Law and Order UK show is stealing Jamie Bamber....I was hoping to see more of him on this side of the Atlantic, I figured BSG would maybe get him some US work

More writing? Yay. Can't wait to see him adapt yet another popular movie into an episode about aliens.

Manic, watch either of the 2 movies Noel Clarke has written (Kidulthood and Adulthood) and you will see that is is surprisingly a brilliant writer.

I was under the impression he was a staff writer on both Who and Torchwood, basically throwing in an idea or polishing up finished scripts

I don't think he is.

And there's rumors Martha and Mickey will be popping up for Tennant's regeneration.

Mickey should stick around afterward. Extricated from the stupid love triangle between himself, Rose, and the Doctor, Mickey's pretty fun.
