TPBs Bought/Thought Thread

Yep, I Hate Giants was excellent. I always think that a comic book diet should include stuff that isn't just about superheros..or zombies...or barbarians. I Hate Giants definitely came out of left field; but, I fell in love with it after the first issue.

I just ordered the Dead @ 17 Omnibus. I never read the comic; so, I'm hoping it's worth it.

The Essential series really is putting out some thicker issues, with comics from the late 70's and into the 80's. Essential X-Men Vol. 9 just came out (price has now increased, though, from 16.99 to 19.99), and it has some great issues. Essential Dazzler Vol. 2 was awesome! Not only did it include the rest of her series, but also had the Beauty and the Beast miniseries and her hard to find, pretty expensive graphic novel, Dazzler The Movie.

Half-Priced Books in Tacoma now has a ton of Graphic Novels. It makes me think that the comic shop across the street is being ripped off, and people are selling them there. It's just kind of odd to see such expensive graphic novels in excellent condition being in such abundance.

I just bought the 40 years of X-men CD-Rom and the first two X-Factor essentials

I really hated those Marvel CD-Roms, because they'd have the transparent logo on the pages of the comics, and I found it distracting. Back in the day, there was a great place that had a chronological order of all the X-Men appearances that was nice. Can't find that stuff much anymore; and, in the end I never liked reading a comic on the computer. It's great for research, though, like with our Contest Of Marvels RPG.

i didnt notice a logo on the pages ive looked thru

Just bought the first Warren Ellis Thunderbolts trade. Tomorrow through Instocktrades, I'll be getting Superman : Brainiac, the first Powers hardcover and the new printing of Walt Simonson's Thor v.2.

Yes. It is. Stay away from the sequels though. Waste of money those are.

Just got The Man who Laughs and I kill Giants

Finished the Man who Laughs. Good stuff. Very good stuff.

You'll love I Kill Giants.

I picked up a huge pile of books a few weeks ago, and have been slowly going through them. Finally read the first volume of DMZ. Fantastic series. Hence, the spiffy new avatar.

Just finished I Kill Giants. Did not disappoint. Freakin' awesome.

The Titan was real in the end, right? Even after finishing IKG it still felt pretty ambiguous to me. I absolutely adored it tho.

And i've just finished Kingdom Come for the first time reading it and it was brilliant.

Bought Invincible vol. 2, Scalped vol. 3, and Fables vol. 2 the other day. Invincible and Scalped were fantastic. For Invincble, I loved the twist between the Guardians of the Galaxy and Omni-Man. Can't wait to see where this book goes. For Scalped, I couldn't ask for more. Fantastic story and art. I'll probably pick up vol. 4 today or tomorrow. For Fables, the story was good, but I didn't like Mark Buckingham's art at all. It feels like a downgrade after Lan Medina's arc.

If you liked the man who laughts, pick up lovers and madmen if you haven't read it already, I thought it was even better

Picked up Invincible vol. 3 and Ex Machina vol. 2 today. Loved both.

Swamp Thing v.7-9: Rick Veitch's followup to the Alan Moore run, which starts at the inherent disadvantage of following the Alan Moore run, ie, the only run of Swamp Thing that anyone cares about. It's pretty good stuff, actually; given that he was an artist on the series when Moore was writing, Veitch knows his stuff, and picks up on Moore's characters and plot points. The main thrust is an ingenious followup to the last third of Moore's run, when the Swamp Thing was exiled: the Parliament of Trees thought Swamp Thing was dead, and so set the wheels in motion to create a new elemental, only for the old one to return, upsetting the natural balance. Reminded me a lot of Buffy when the title character's return from the dead created a second slayer.

Thor: Ages of Thunder: Now with 80% more *****ebag!

My LCBS had Jim Steranko's Nick Fury: Agent of Shield TPB on sale at £5, the other week - so I picked up a copy. It was excellent. Storyline was good, Nick Fury was in the best incarnation I've seen of him and the Sterenko art was quality. I think my taste is changing as I get older, I seem to remember when I was younger not liking the Sterenko style, but this looked really nice and now i'm on the lookout for more Sterenko goodness.

Anyone any recommendations?

Nick Fury: Who is Scorpio? is by the same team and it is also most excellent

Captain America Omnibus by Bru....so far I like it

Bought Ultimates Omnibus.

Wish they had more extras.

Any suggestions for anything featuring the original Human Torch, or the Invaders in general? I loved the focus they gave him in Marvels, and enjoyed everything involving the Invaders in Brubaker's Captain America. But other than those 2 books I've never read anything else with the Torch in.

It's meant to be ambiguous. Personally, I don't think it was real. I think it was a massive storm that Barbara got caught up in and triggered her catharsis. But that's just me.

I finally finished Deadpool Classic vol. 2. Fan-bloody-tastic. Joe Kelly's Deadpool is so much more entertaining than any other version.

I'm currently reading Way's first Deadpool trade, though, and it's surprisingly almost as good as Kelly's. Outside of some awkward quirks like Deadpool having two conversing sets of narrative boxes and seeing things in random cartoon-vision, it's a good read.
