i mean in terms of their journey... the whole final 3 quarters of the film is them quickly flying to the portal with no obstacles or new characters along the way.

its like if the hobbits had jetpacks in the lotr and quickly flew to mordor ...lol

What about Caster?

To be fair, the little resistant on the path to the portal happened in the first Tron also.

Alright, there are no valid reasons to dislike the story.
Everyone loved it.

This is rich. :wow:

I don't think that should have to much barring on this film.

However the "lack of resistant" goes hand and hand with both Clu's and Flynn's respective plans.

yeah thats the only exception.. but barely.
he was in the first quarter of the film and didnt even matter.

i thought he would have some sort of importance after everyone leading the main character to him.. but no he doesnt put up any fight against flynn or clu.

and for some reason flyyn believed that a "revolution" was gonna take place.. yet there was appearantly no one on his side besides olivia.

in the original they went to quite a few more places and met more characters along the way to help them defeat the mcp than this movie.

I was expecting a BIG battle, a LOTR type of battle.

That wasn't the first quarter of the film. More like the third.

As to the "revolution", it is what got them out of Caster's alive.

i wasnt expecting a huge battle just more things to flesh out the world of tron and make their journey to the portal somewhat hard. everything was perfect until after Zuse and that was a big chunk.

in the original there was flynn, tron, the chick, the friend programs flynn meets in the games, and the old guy that they went to for whatever reason.

there´s still one thing that bothers me:

Why did Flynn have to die? :csad: I say Flynn cause If i say which Flynn people are gonna open this and be spoiled and then whine about it.

Im not gonna lie I was too.

Thats a missed opportunity that they didnt have a strong resistance force in the film. It was just the main 3, who were cool. But with more "freedom fighters" we probably couldve seen a bigger battle

I have revised my review on Tron Legacy and am bumping the rate to a 9.5/10. Thanks to figuring out the answers to a few questions.

Probably because
Clu had grown so distinct from Flynn that it was basically information overload, causing both of them to annihilate one another. Think matter-antimatter collisions.

quick question I could not stay for the credits, what was the 2 songs that play in Flynn's arcade when Sam turns on the power, I know one is probably journey or survivor (not sure which) but there is another song that plays when he goes downstairs and for the life of me I cannot remember it :(.
Separate Ways by Journey and Sweet Dreams by The Eurythmics.

false... sam worthington cannot show emotion.

and the cartoon villain from avatar was somehow less of a real character than Clu lol

Avatar was purely praised for its visuals and visuals only(and maybe 3d)... hence the lack of a nomination for best screenplay lol... it didnt even have any cool or memorable action scenes that leaves you wanting more.

so whats wrong with tron having a simple story and incredible visuals. The human characters were very well fleshed out too... even some of the programs in the tron world as well. Id rather a simple original story than a cliche'd outdone one.
You may have a point. I was underwhelmed with Avatar for the same reason I'm underwhelmed with Tron. But somehow Avatar entertained me more.

If you can't explain it, you are just proving my point. :awesome:

Tron is not a simple story. It is told in a simple manner as not to alienate those that are not versed in the tech world. But it is not simple.
I would love to hear more.

To me, it looked like: (Spoilers!!)

(spoilers!)

[BLACKOUT]Cliche "rebel" kid rejects "the corporate man" and lives the simple "free" life. He could walk in and take over the company but apparently decides to break in instead. He proceeds to display the training he apparently received in 007 school.

Cliche "wise mentor guy" helps him to "seek out the love he won't admit he misses".

Cliche rebel kid enters some weird world that isn't fully explained and ends up in some kind of tournament out of nowhere. Naturally, the rebel kid is an instant expert.

Cliche "love interest kick-ass chick" shows up to rescue rebel kid.

Cliche "Noble wise hippy Dad" is found. Explains something about a perfect world and some kind of weird race that exists inside gaming computers that is "special" in some unexplained way. They have a glowing tattoo.

Cliche rebel kid of course decides to do something stupid. Never saw that coming. He's a "rebel" don't forget.

Cliche "wacky villain character" shows up. Betrays rebel kid. Hippy noble dad must spring into action and lose the disk thing he claimed would end the world. Love interest chick gets hurt. Wise dad uses his magic powers to bring her back to life.

Cliche love interest chick decides to sacrifice herself for some odd reason that accomplishes nothing.

The all-important disk is recovered very easily. (These disks naturally are constantly being thrown at things)

Cliche chase scene ensues. ...Right after our heroes share a tender moment when they should be hauling ass. Rebel kid now gets to play Luke Skywalker and yes...he is of course an amazing gunner too. Surprised? Again the villains can't quite hit the heroes during the fight.

Obi Wan sacrifices himself to stop Darth Vader so Luke can escape with Lea. Wait....

Rebel kid has a change of heart and decides he will become a corporate guy after all.
[/BLACKOUT]

What did I miss? ;)

Maybe if I saw this in 3D it would be better? The visuals were really good...but it was empty calories in the end.

If the past few years are any indication, this will rake in the money at the box office. I was underwhelmed with Shrek 2, Transformers, Spider-Man 3, The Dark Knight, and Avatar....all sold more tickets than god. I'm out of touch with the mainstream obviously. The public yawns at my favorite movies. (Watchmen, Kick Ass, Scott Pilgrim, The Kids are Alright, Let Me In, Winter's Bone)

Toy Story 3 is the only thing keeping me "cool". :)

I saw the film and I thought it was very good film. Story wise I give it an 8.5/10, visual effects I give it 10/10. IMO the critics were wrong this film had pretty powerful themes such as Father and Son, Good vs. Evil, Prefection and Imperfection, Sacrifice and Legacy...

Had a great time watching this in IMAX 3D. It looks beautiful and it has the best score of the year, but at times the story becomes very dull. Overall, this movie decent and it was what I was expecting, a joyful ride.

8/10

Gave it a 9/10. Really enjoyed it, and I honestly didn't have any major complaints about the story. I barely remember the original, so for those of you claiming it was so much more brilliant than this one, well... good for you. Go watch the original again if the sequel sucks so badly. I didn't expect anything more that a solid popcorn flick with great effects, and that's what I got. The only things that bugged me a little were that weird scene with all of the TV sets on the floor (WTF?), the times CLU was clearly CGI and the fact that
we never saw Tron's face after it was revealed he was Rinzler
.

Unless they saved that for after the credits. Did anyone stay afterward to see? I was going to but my date wasn't as into the movie as I was so I didn't want to make her wait around.

You may have a point. I was underwhelmed with Avatar for the same reason I'm underwhelmed with Tron. But somehow Avatar entertained me more.

To me Avatar was basically a representation of Pocahontas with giant blue creatures and stunning visual effects. Tron Legacy actually had an emotional story and spectacular visual effects . I like Tron so much more because the themes were much strong and didn't just focus on just the love story between Sam & Quorra although was featured the main focus was on FATHER & SONS.

Which I thought Bridges played very well as Kevin Flynn he was a father striving to create perfection and order and basically Clu was just following Kevin's original idea. But when Flynn and Tron deviated of course with the ISO. Clu felt betrayed by Flynn who he saw as his father and rebelled against him.

Then you have Sam who's feels abandon by his father who been missing for twenty years only to discover he's trapped within the very world he created and refuses to fight fearing Clu would complete his main primary objective in our world. And at some point Kevin realizes that what he always wanted in wasn't in the digital world but right in front of him the whole time his beloved son and he wanted to pass on his LEGACY to him which does

I just got back from seeing it in Imax 3D. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed it. For me, it dragged a bit in the middle like others have been saying but I don't think it hurt the film too much. My theater must not have been "getting" all the Tron lingo with ISOs and whatnot but they all clapped at the end. 4/5

Yeah, I don't want to get too far into a Tron: Legacy vs. Avatar debate because I really liked both films. I just don't get why the same critics who praised the crap out of Avatar are denouncing Tron. All of what they perceive to be Tron's weaknesses are things that they determined to be acceptable in Avatar. They claim that the story is weak and familiar, the characters are paper-thin, the dialogue is bad and the CGI, while impressive, isn't 100% accurate at times. So why was this okay in one movie and not in another?

The visuals were equally impressive in both. So CLU (at times) didn't look 100% real, but neither did Sigourney Weaver's avatar. And if the visuals and action sequences were what made you love Avatar, despite its weaknesses, what's the issue with this movie? The story is too similar to things we've seen before? Are you kidding me? Like Avatar wasn't an alien version of Pocahontas/Dances with Wolves/The Last Samurai? And I'm not even saying anything is wrong with that, because Avatar had enough going for it to make it stand out. And so does this film.

Unfortunately, I think people aren't giving it a fair chance because either A. they hold the original in such high esteem that no sequel could ever live up to it or B. they hate the original, think it's stupid, and therefore a sequel has to suck too.

Well I for one love Tron, Tron Legacy, and Avatar respectfully.

and That-Guy, I stayed until the credits and there was nothing...but a great "Finale" track by daft punk :oldrazz:
I really hope Daft Punk gets a Oscar nod for best score

Yeah, Daft Punk really does deserve it. Finally a Disney movie I think DESERVES an Oscar for the music! Oh, wait. I forgot. It wasn't a cartoon and the song wasn't sung by f**king Phil Collins. Nevermind.

people in my theater applauded like crazy when Daft Punk made their cameo in the club scene

So im going to see this tomorrow what do you guys that have seen it recommend, just Imax or Imax 3D with glory of glasses?
