I think not enough ppl give this new director enough credit. I mean............THAT was his directing debut? TRON LEGACY? Far worse directors have premiered with less average films that have been favored and praised much more. Bull. ****.

makes me feel good as a film student that he got a big movie as his first one....hopefully I wont get Howard the Duck 2 as my director debut movie

i knew he was going to knock the visuals out of the park...but i was worried about his handling for drama, pacing, and action. imo, he failed in the drama department, struggled with the pacing, and mishandled the action. i'm not saying he did a horrible job for his directional debut....i'm just saying that the movie has signs of a first time director scattered throughout.

And which directors/films would these be?

Agreed.

(My sister wanted to take in a double feature so I saw it with her after watching Black Swan)

As for the opening weekend numbers:

It's the end of the year so legs are possible but the opening weekend numbers are lame, especially when you consider the price of the 3D tickets.

The movie is f**ked if it doesn't have some seriously awesome legs. Anyone expecting Avatar style legs is kidding themselves as Avatar is a once in a blue moon type of thing.

Yeah, with mixed buzz and a opening weekend box office like that. This film could go either way really. It could be a case of front loaded where all it's business is opening weekend and it's a certified flop or it could be a case of a hit where people actually continue to see it.

It's really 50/50 in either ballpark, but if I were Disney I'd be worried and on my toes, because with the enormous budget, the ad budget and more this movie has to make big bank to be considered successful.

Domestic: $43,600,000 65.5%+
Foreign: $23,000,000 34.5%
=Worldwide: $66,600,000

Yep, nobody should be writing the movie off this soon but Disney should be a little worried right now. Sure Dec openings aren't the biggest so it could have great holliday aided legs but it's going to be a tough battle. Alot of other huge holliday blockbusters had far better reviews. Movies like LOTR's and Avatar. The best the mousehouse can hope for is 200mil.

tron has no competition for a while... no good big blockbuster films come out for a veryyy long time

Just came back from a second viewing. It's even better the second time.

That doesn't mean anything. People's reaction to the film is what matters and right now, we don't know if people liked it or not. The holiday legs will help it and it has a fair shot at 200mil. The overseas opening isn't really pointing to a huge breakout either. It's doing "okay" right now, no more and no less.

At the end of the day the movie isn't going to be a bomb so Disney should be happy with that. Star Trek didn't make a boatload relative to it's cost but it had great reviews and good word of mouth so it's getting a sequel. Tron doesn't need to bust the bank but it does need some damn good word of mouth.

A director is but one part of a movie. He's the captain, but if the crew sucks or the admiral pulls final cut...

I think a screenwriter is one of the most essential and overlooked people in Hollywood.

And who couldn't make Tron a more essential piece in this movie?????? *SIGH*

just to be fair im just spit balling, I just want some good conversation around here

MY REVIEW:

I thought the movie looked beautiful but the 3D didn't really stand out in any real way. The music was great too. What brought the movie into mediocre land was the bad acting, pacing and dialogue.

Hedlund made for a dreadful lead, he seemed lost and he just faded into the background. A leading man he is not. Bridges was obviously allowed to do whatever he wanted to because he just played the dude and Wilde seemed like she was on to something but the script gave her very little to do. Lets not forget Sheen extremely silly and far too over the top performance. I love Sheen but...no. Just, no.

The pacing of the film was bad because one moment (like when Flynn jr. first entered The Grid) the movie is moving by way to fast so it can get to the pretty cool action and the next moment its going slower than old woman with two broken legs.

The dialogue was just a mix of tired out cliches and new bad stuff. Characters were talking when there was no need for it and what they said was horrible anyway.

I could have forgiven some of that stuff had I cared about the characters in any way but alas I didn't. The movie's storyline is both too simple and confusing and Dig-Bridge was a boring villian. It didn't help that he was a deadeyed CGI version of Jeff Bridges. That effect was not effective. In some shots it looked horrible and in others it looked really horrible. Sorry hollywood but CGI isn't there yet.

In conclusion, I didn't hate the movie or anything but it's just like the original; it's a cheesy, poorly scripted movie with some entertaining bits and visuals and nothing else.

6.5/10

Tron Legacy is visually impressive but unfortunately the script, dialogue, storyline, and acting all needed work.

I don’t think Kosinski is a director who knows how to work with actors, the performances are either uneven like Hedlund’s, in some scenes he is flatly reading the lines and in others he is fantastic or wildly over the top and Wilde was interesting but with an extra push the character could've been much more.

The movie loses momentum after the first act and never gets it back and it violates the age old storytelling dictum, show, don’t tell.

I thought the acting & Hedlund was great. I agree that CGI Bridges looked a little off, & CGI just isn't quite there yet, but it's getting close.

I found myself entertained through the whole movie. It did have some pacing problems at some spots, but not enough to make me un-interested in what's happening.

Movie of the year for me. Granted, I didn't think many good movies came out this year. Definitely wanna go see this one again before it's out of the theaters. :D

This comment and your icon are reminding me to thank my lucky stars he wasn't cast as Cap. Even if that movie turns out to be crap...we still got a much better casting choice than we could have, imo.

Heh...I agree.

I think that he could be a decent character and side actor but he just doesn't cut it as a lead in a big blockbuster. I do blame part of his performance on the script but even with the bad script Wilde shined in a few scenes and so did everyone else. At first I thought that his performance was going to be alright but as it went along he got worse and worse.

Just saw this last night, pretty entertaining. I was surprised Olivia Wilde was the standout of the three leads, and even more surprised that Kevin Flynn is apprently a digitized Dude.

I was a little surprised
that Tron/Rinzler (is there a significance to that surname, btw?) didn't return for a final "boss battle," or something. Was also a little disappointed that the worst Clu effects happen right at the end when he's trying to force his way into the real world.

But overall, a fun movie, with a cool soundtrack and a great aesthetic.

Also, is it bad that when i saw Clu's flying attack troops I thought of:

I thought Hedlund was pretty good. It's not a breakout performance but he got the job done. I liked him more as the movie went on; his character at first seemed to be too much of an "extreme daredevil dude" but that was really the movie's fault. In fact, my least favorite part of the film was his break-in at Encom. The overweight average joe security guard risking life and limb to stop him was pretty LOL worthy; was it meant to be funny?

There's so much hate online for this movie, and I don't get it. At all.
This isn't an exercise in oscarbation, DDL's not in the flick, and it wasn't written by Aaron Sorkin. WTF where people expecting?

It's TRON. It's a damn "awesome fun times popcorn eatin' too many mike & ikes flick." I bet all the haters saying how weak the story is, blah blah, etc haven't even seen the first film.

I'm not saying this film is perfect, far from it, but it's no where near as bad as some of you people make it out. I'm very interested in Joseph Kosinski's future.

Tron/Rinzler was a badass mofo. I wish they redeemed him completely though. There's that hint at the end, so I wouldn't mind him being a major character again in the next Tron outing.

People, including many film snobs, have liked far worse films. And they know it.
