It's currently 29 million dollars in the hole (not counting advertising costs), and falling fast.

How embarassing.
It's beyond embarrassing at this point. A nearly 68% drop for a movie that only opened with 4.3mil is an utter disaster.

I do want to hear more of those "legs" and "don't write it off" after the first weekend arguements.

I'm sure a few on here are still convinced it will make it's money back ion theaters. the new thing will be how great it will do on DVD. How it will dominate the market sparking a sequel.

A direct-to-DVD sequel maybe. If that's where the audience is for this movie, I don't think Lionsgate would want to waste money going theatrical.

As I said before, I could see a cheapy direct to DVD sequel but I don't think that the Punisher will be seen in theaters again for atleast 10 years...if it's lucky.

geez, this is the biggest flop EVER.

In fact, this movie fails so big that now i am interested to watch it. I think im going to the theater and see it.

You know, if EVERYBODY said that.... No, it's too late, it's a bomb...

All I know is I'm going to buy the DVD, I loved the movie. I don't care what other people thought. That's what everyone who liked the movie should feel.

I can see why this movie failed, LG and Marvel gave up on this before it even finished principal.

Anyway, I thought it was a nice, enjoyable, cheesy ass film, which will eventually become something of a cult hit later on. There's tons of films out there that didn't do squat at the box office and now are seen as gems. TOMBSTONE comes to mind just to name one, maybe HEAT as well.

Although I don't mean to compare this cheese film to those, it's just an example of how a film that didn't do well could become a cult hit.

HEAT? Did nothing? It, along with last of the Mohicans put Michael Mann on a decade long hot streak that even survived the genuine bomb that was Ali.And it was always praised critically - it's Pacino and De Niro's best performances since the early 80s and the last serious pieces of work they did. There's no way P:WZ could be seen in the same light as that film - what drugs are you on? It's garbage and is being dumped like it.

the movie may not be all that great, but considering all the crap that makes money these days, war zone really doesn't deserve to be this much of a failure at the box office.

Agreed it certainly did not deserve what its getting at the Box Office.

$7,000,000 take. That is pathetic. I don't think even the ones who hated and bashed everything about this expecting that pitiful of a box office. I know I didn't.
But it will make $100,000,000 on DVD and it will get it's theatrical sequel.

Man I hope so Kable, I loved the movie. Of course the people that hated it soooo bad keep it up.. Lets keep bolt, twilight etc.. up there. Those were way better then PWZ.. PWZ deserves much better. Im telling you if Frank would have just bent the bullet like in "wanted" we would have had it made..That movie was crap. PWZ deserved better

I still can't believe this movie did that bad,

I thought it was the best of the 3 films myself.
I guess it wasn't made for mainstream but at least it didn't have this crap in it.

Ray at least was true to me and yes the movie had it's faults but it was better to me.
and if this is how the punisher franchise goes out,,, at least it went out like it should have.
with Frank not being threatened by a guy with a guitar case and looking confused.

DFT, I think we all get you didnt like the movie.

And your point is?

As a big Punisher fan, it's hard to accept that yet again they screwed up what should be incredibly simple. They've scared away Thomas Jane who, while not a star, is at least recognisable to genre movie fans - which surely should be this film's audience?

They managed to alienate the original director, all the interesting follow ups, including the excellent John Dahl, they bastardised Hensleigh's promising script and turned it into a gaudy camp-fest where all the violence is played for laughs.

Basically, any sort of cult cache it could have had is ruined by hiring a hopelessly dim director, a total non-entity of a star, a terribly miscast villain (am I meant to believe that Dominic West is a good looking man?), the cheapest looking FX that make even Ichi The Killer's comedically bad gore look convincing and then marketing it so that almost no dialogue, no story and no intelligence is diplayed.

From top to bottom this film was a disaster. They aimed it at the teenage, gore-hound anime fan and alienated any sort of macho revenge movie credentials it could have had.

So, yes, I dislike it. I dislike it because it's lazy, obvious and crass. Comic book adaptations have come a long way since The Crow showed you could make something comic book and palatable for a mainstream audience.

We've got The Dark Knight up for Oscars (as little as they mean), we've had X2 given great reviews from serious film critics, we had solid responses for Iron Man. Now we've got this DVD-level trash.

The box office tells you everything you need to know about this film.

I honestly despair of some people. It sounds like you're the sort of guy that thought Man on Fire was a good film because people got C4 in the rectums.

Almost every non comic fan i've shown the 2004 Punisher has commented how much they love that scene. You know why? because it's different that some macho idiot screaming and shouting. It's actually threatening.

And the second clip was two pompous "film-makers" who clearly haven't graduated past DV cassettes. Epic fail.

DFT, heres my point.. so far most non fans of the punisher liked PWZ. The poll even in here has a higher like then dislike.

The movie was good. Ray does great as the Punisher. PWZ gives the story of why he is the way he is. PWZ gave the feeling that if Frank is in the room with criminals they were gonna die. PWZ showed he is a man that feels and thinks. PWZ showed him having a conscious about taking out the wrong guy, giving money to the little girl, helping them out. PWZ had awesome gun and fight scenes. Showed Frank not letting others follow his path, showed his will to keep going for more.

Guys like you want everything and for 1 1/2 hours I thought it was a good paced ride for a theatrical movie. As I said sorry you didnt like it and thats fine. But all I have heard from guys that didnt like it is that its as bad a movie that can be made ....I know thats BS.... Its the kinda critic that wants a PS3 for Christmas, opens his present, gets it, but then throws a fit because he didnt get 3 games with it.

That's how I feel. I felt that I got my money's worth and that's all that matters. I'm getting the dvd as soon as it hits shelves. :word:

The critics and/or the studio heads crucified this film before the viewing public ever got a chance to find out for themselves. It just feels like Lionsgate was setting it up to fail...badly. :cmad:

Your kidding right? This film was beyond camp, and for that matter 04 and 89 version as well. I read the script before and even if the actors involveed were decent enough to sell it, the movie still had major flaws. All films tried hard to be something they are not. Warzone 89, 04 are just insults by filmmakeers to comic fans. I don't even know where to begin about Warzone, the actors SUCKED!!!! Colin trying to hide his heavy british accent made me crack up when he called everyone in the police office "krispy Kreme Mother****ers" and Stevenson trying hard to be more like John Wayne playing Frank, it was pathetic. You could tell all the actors new that this film was a **** pile, they were only there for the checks. And don't getme started on that beginning scene where he kills Cesare. That was so frikin STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's like I said earlier, that Zoolander **** will not fly on a Punisher film!! they never frikin get it right!! It's so easy my 8 year old nephew could have written a better treatment!!! No, Im not trying to have everything crammed in an hour and 30 minutes, there are several good films out there that managed to fit all the peices in. This movie was a joke, insight on what Lionsgate really thinks of you as, a giant stupid cash cow!

You can't please everyone. The sad thing, many people I know didn't even know there was another Punisher movie coming out. Lionsgate set this thing up to fail harder than it should.
