I guess Ed Tolputt played and voiced Moriarty in this...

This provides an answer.

Matt Patches: I know there was this big hulabaloo about Brad Pitt popping up as Moriarty, does he/doesn't he...and because he plays a pretty big part in the movie, albeit shrouded in shadow, I admit I waited around til after the credits to see if Brad made an appearance, but alas he did not. So I have to ask, who plays the voice of Moriarty in this movie?

Guy Ritchie: I'm not going to tell you.

Matt Patches: I have to say, it sounded a little like Brad Pitt.

Guy Ritchie: Can't say.

Matt Patches: Aww, please?

Guy Ritchie: No.

No means Brad Pitt.

It sounded like him doing a British accent.

No means that he isn't going to say until he's good and ready...and I for one, don't mind waiting

I just thought it was some actor. I don't k ow if they already have the actor cast and done. Be cool if it was Pitt.

I'm seeing this again tomorrow so I'll pay more attention.

I loved the movie, but when rolling over ideas in my head for the sequel, I came up with this: we see Moriarty, but he somehow gives the impression to holmes that he is not as capable a fighter, even intentionally taking a beating. Then, when going mano a mano with Holmes, he reveals his true fighting skills. As brilliant as Holmes is, do you think this is a good way to fool him, or would he most likely tell that Moriarty threw the first fight?

I was thinking this because the bar has to be set very high if Holmes is going to be fooled and have the audience buy it.

I would've freaked out and shouted if it was Pitt. I was just pissed we got no reveal at all.

I was like, "Holy ****, Moriarty is in there! We are going to get some badass awesome cameo reveal at the very end."

Then we didn't get it pre-credits. Then I waited all the way after the credits.

Nothing.

GRRRRRRRRRRRR!

When I heard the voice, I thought it MIGHT be Russell Crowe since he was originally rumored as Watson.

Instead Moriarty was played by some uncredited actor. LAME COPOUT!

I wonder if this was a case of "couldn't" rather than "wouldn't." Maybe they "couldn't" work out the schedules and Ritchie was dead set on Pitt or someone else, so that he decided to simply hold off on the reveal.

You know, with the way some of the shots were framed in the final scene, I was truly expecting a shot to ring out before Irene could tell Holmes who she was working for, and we pull back and see Pitt holding that small gun wearing the chalk stained clothes we saw earlier.

or maybe Ritchie wants to wait until he gets a go ahead for a sequel and it would be a waste to use a big name actor for a small cameo

we don't need to know everything

Ive alway seen Holmes and Moriarty at around the same age, so I think Pitt would be a bit too young for the role

Ritchie might have someone else in mind that hes worked with before...there are plenty of actors who'd make a great Moriarty

Brad Pitt is one of the best actors that Hollywood has to offer and he'd be fantastic to see go up against RDJ

Pitt is in his forties? Mid forties I believe? You could make it work. There was a shot in Benjamin Button that reminded me of Moriarty. I'm not saying doing a Benjamin Button effect just the look.

if Anthony Stewart Head was a few years younger, I'd say he was right for the part

I just think you need someone to match RDJ's new Holmes. Think of their interactions. To me Pitt seems like a great match.

Jack Davenport (Norrington from the POTC films) could probably pull it off too

Saw it today as well and is definitely my second favorite movie of the year behind Up in the Air (which I only saw last night). Downey just has this way of creating extremely likable characters. I love the guy!

I want Pitt to do it because whenever he's tasked with playing against type, aka the square jawed hero, he usually puts his all into it. A guy that never plays the villain is the guy I want for the villain. Any actor that has played a villain before becomes somewhat of a bore if that's all they do.

They didn't show his face cause when the film was shot, they had no actor yet for Moriarty. This kind of happened in Heroes. They never showed pictures of Mr. Petrelli in the show, cause in the 1st and 2nd season, they had no one attached for the part but they knew they wanted to use him. So they just never showed him or had him obscured in scenes he was supposed to be present. Same thing here. Maybe Pitt or someone lended their voice in post production, but we got no cameo cause no one was cast when they filmed and did reshoots.

And on a side note, watching Holmes and Watson really was like watching House and Wilson.

I thought the same thing. I wonder how much inspiration they drew from the House cast, given that House takes many character notes from Sherlock Holmes.

Well, House basically is a Holmes "what if" story. It's "what if we took Holmes, put him in the 21st century, and made him a doctor?"

I hope Pitt isn't cast, I can't stand him as an actor.

I've actually warmed up to him over time. I think with age he's actually becoming a better actor then in his earlier years.

I still can't forgive him or David Fincher for the take they used in the end for Se7ven though.

"WHAT'S IN THE BOX!?" :hehe:

There are a lot of similarities. Both live on 221 Baker Street. Both with their doctor Friend, Holmes with Watson, House with Wilson. Wilson is a known ladies man like Watson. Both use pain killers regularly, Holmes uses Morphene(with some Cocaine) and House uses Vicodin. Holmes plays the violin, House the guitar. Both are brilliant, use observation and deductive reasoning. Both are arrogant and don't like doing cases that don't interest them.

As much as I love Sherlock Holmes, I can't stand watching House. One, having gone through a kidney transplant, the medical stuff hits way too close to home. Second, House is just a really mean nasty bastard. Holmes never goes out of his way to insult someone, and if he does, its so dry and natural, you're not sure at first if you've been insulted.

I think the BBC is doing an actual modern day Holmes TV series. I don't know who plays Holmes, but I do know Martin Freeman plays Watson.
