I don't like his flippancy, but other than that I like his work.
In flippancy you mean his personality or what?

The guy's personality is great. He's very unique.

I believe that will be Watson in that version
Guard is right. It still very much is. He is super smart and witty but like you said, he is disconnected with society and even Watson and what's going on around him. He would much rather take interest in solving something. There's great scenes where it shows this. But at the same time you love the guy. I couldn't think of anyone else playing Holmes other than RBJ when reading it. He fits the script very well.
Will Holmes still be a drug addict in this version?
Heh, this reminds me. For fans of the show, they'll realize that House is very much influenced by Holmes. Given the show's popularity, I wonder how this version will differentiate itself from Hugh's brilliant take. Especially since they are so alike.^Hopefully.
They may recognize the character, but I have not come across one "youngster" who actually looked up to Holmes as say, the modern superhero.I suspect they will market this as more of a PG-13 action adventure for everyone from fans of the classic to families. I doubt they're gonna integrate the drug stuff, because Holmes is kind of an icon to a lot of youngsters, addiction notwithstanding.

I think the biggest difference between House and Sherlock is that while House actually tries and gets enjoyment out of being an arrogant prick, Holmes does not. When Holmes comes off as arrogant, it's usually from a cold, methodical reading of the facts, like a computer telling an overweight person that he's fat, not to insult him, but because that's what the evidence supports. House on the other hand seems to get a sadistic pleasure from insulting people.

Robert Brownie Junior? They definatley will. This script will bring in everybody. That's a good thing. If done right, Holmes is very accessible to all audiences. Kids, adults, teens, etc. Plus, RBJ in it will only help. Seriously, who doens't love this guy?
Poster is nice, for a teaser. But i get a weird Van Helsing vibe from it![]()

I love the poster... but... damn it... I wanted the deerstalker cap!
During the Warner brothers presentation, after watching some really hot footage of Terminator Salvation, The Hangover and Harry Potter 6, Robert Downey Jr. introduced footage of his new movie Sherlock Holmes. It was the first time any footage had been shown anywhere.
The only sort of plot was the bad guy saying in a voiceover to Holmes that, "Tomorrow, at midday, the world as you know it, will end." The next scene showed Downey as Holmes saying, "Well, there isn't anytime to waste then, is there?"
A lot of action footage was shown, from Holmes jumping out a third story or so window into the river below (Thames) and shots of Holmes in a bare knuckle fist fight reminiscent of Tom Cruise's fights in Far and Away. Some of the punches were in slow motion kind of like 300. We didn't see Jude Law as Watson until halfway in the footage, when Sherlock wanted to find someone that would compliment his skills. "Holmes, does your depravity know no bounds?" "No." is also exchanged in the footage shown, along with Holmes saying, "Watson, what have you done?"
We see shots of Rachel McAdams, Robert Downey Jr.'s love interest in the film, who knocks him down in one scene , and he wakes up later handcuffed naked to a bed. The last scene shows a maid walking into the room and screaming at the site of a naked Holmes handcuffed to the bed with only a pillow to cover him up. Holmes then says, "Madam, I need you to remain calm and act like a professional. Take this pillow as the key to my release." It was a pretty funny scene.
There were also shots of Holmes picking a lock until Watson just kicks the door in, a scene where he has a hammer but is up against an enormous man wielding a giant sledgehammer. Holmes throws the hammer at the guy's chest and it bounces off with no effect.
The movie, judging from the two minutes shown, looks to be a cool mix of action and humor. Sometimes the dialogue was hard to understand because every actor seemed to have a different English accent. Once WB releases the footage online, you'll have to judge for yourself!
Stayed tuned for more from ShoWest!
