I suspect that WB will let Sherlock Holmes hang around in theaters long enough to reach $200 million at this point. As a last $200 million capstone to 2009 for them. Unless it drops off suddenly, but it's going to make at least double its budget right up against a box office juggernaut. How AVATAR is performing on 2D screens might be relevant as far as competition goes.

WB must want to release the sequel in the summer, and to do that I would assume they would have to start filming many months earlier than they did last time. If WB wanted the sequel to be released in December again, then they probably would have just chosen to start filming at the end of the year like they did last time and allowed RDJ to complete his work on Cowboys and Aliens.

The sequel might make a good August release, but I'm unsure about whether it could carry a June or July release.

Finally watched this, and I gotta say... I ****ing love it!

Loved the chemistry between Downey Jr and Law, loved the relationship between Holmes and Watson.

This is definitely not a brainless film. It gets you thinking. Holmes' deductions were the best parts. I loved how it showed him to be a bad ass by using intelligence. I loved the rivalry between magic and logic/science running throughout the film. I also thought the humour was nice and sharp, typical Ritchie.

The look and sound of the movie was PERFECT IMO. I love the re-occuring piano notes that make the theme tune. The look of Victorian London was real but stylized at the same time. Some people don't like Ritchie's distinctive shooting/editing style, I LOVE it and it shines through here, especially the scenes in the tunnels under Parliament and the scenes were it flashes forward to show how Holmes does his thing ie the bare knuckle brawl. And the costume design was great too. Watson's suits were epic, I'd love to have some threads like him! And Holmes looked disheveled yet too cool for school.

Strong was ok as Blackwood. People say he was a bit boring, but I think that was intended. He wasn't supposed to be charismatic or anything, he was perfectly understated yet still menacing.

McAdams wasn't as bad as other people are saying IMO. She was the weakest of the main cast though, for me.

Keeping Moriarty in the shadows was the way to go too. Nice and mysterious, ready for the inevitable sequel. And like a few others have mentioned, I too heard a little Brad Pitt in his voice. But obviously that remains to be seen.

Overall I give this film a solid 9 maybe a 10. It was just a great example of why I love films. Action, intelligence, humour, cinematography, score and great acting for the most part.

I dunno how much they want to strenghten their summer anyway
They have Hangover 2 in May , Green Lantern in JUne and the final Potter movie in JUly.

A summer release does make sense because WB is partnering with MGM to make the Hobbit fora planned december '11 release. While the legal problems with MGM need to be dealt with , PJ and Guillermo are contuining with making the movie ( dealing with cadting etc.)
We haven't heard anything of them delaying so i think that WB is still going for a december '11 release.
WB isn't Fox in that they'll release 2 of their own flicks within the same month.
Although......maybe WB is readying Sherlock Homes for a Dec 2011 release because they're seeing that the legal problems for Hobbit might cause it to be pushed back.
And November is also out of the question since they'll release Happy 2.

Don't be surprised if WB sees their summer movies performing extraordinary well ( Hangover 2's premise sounds great on paper and this potter may actually go beyond 1 billion WW) , they'll decide to push back Holmes to summer/winter of 2012

RDJ's Golden Globe speech was awesome. Also, very ironically, he was one of the few award winners that night who didn't appear to be on drugs or completely drunk. What a bizarre awards show.

I think critisizing Holmes deductions and intelligence is plain daft. Could anyone in their lives deduce anything he can much less task what he does? I mean the man deduced how to fight and everything came out just as planned. A normal person would plan something, and it usually turns to ****ery.

Holmes followed Irene in the streets and was revealed to be the old man at the carrigae. ****ing threw me off. That with the music too and I know it may sound silly, Holmes tipping his hat sideways with the camera tipping with it just literally made me go

Yeah this was a very entertaining movie. It took a little bit for me to get into mentally, but once it reaches the 30-40 minute mark it's smooth sailing. Downey Jr. is awesome as always, and Law was pretty good too. One thing I've noticed while watching it again on Justin.tv, is that it's a very repeatable movie. It won't get boring on repeats.
