WB/DC: It's All Part Of The Plan

:Sigh: oh well, I guess I should have learned by now not to get my hopes up.

Don't give up just yet. I heard a few things about Green Lantern last night and I have a feeling some announcements about it are going to come up soon. As for Superman, just keep hope alive for a little while longer.

It seems instead of releasing news about a line up, they've gone tight lipped instead.

Well after the summit, all of a sudden Green Lantern is in Production Weekly as "in development".

A G.L. film would be fine by me. Hopefully Flash will get made as well.

You know, if they did it correctly they could easily have a G.L. trilogy. Different planets, different G.L.'s, The Guadians, ect.

It could be Bond Like, but to a lesser extent.

I guess to us it seems like their being pretty tight, but does the GP actually care... probably not. I would almost say that they would want to save announcing nolan for the sequel when the dvd comes out to boost those sales seeing as they are already making a killing at the box office. Between the movies stars being in the eye of the media announcing nolan isn't even necessary at this point and frankly most regular people don't even care.

In terms of the other properties, why announce green latern if its not ready (although I'm hoping they do). Superman has the trial in november and they may want to take away anything that may give the siegles leverage in the case or incentive to continue. In fact they could pretty much say another superman movie isn't happening anytime soon in order to discourage them from making more money.

On the green latern note I think changing the GL every movie wouldnt be the best idea, although some of us may like it I think it would be hard for people to be excited about it. Imagine the first movie comes out and does amazing only to find out that GL wont have a major role in the next.

I just hope that the GL movie gets a competent director. The guy who was attached before had only done like, one movie and I'd never heard of it. Nobody directors are not usually good people to trust with $100 million movie budgets without even having any kind of portfolio to show they can handle the responsibility.

Amen to that. With a couple of exceptions, the most successful C.B. films have had really great directors with a boatload of experience attached.
G.L. will need just such a director. I think TDK has proved that to W.B.

I don't know why berlanti is being written off, lets face it, if the story is good its not like the director can break the film. I mean Nolan's fighting scenes aren't the greatest thing to ever grace the screen so would you have trusted him with batman with only a few films that had no effects before giving him the gig. I could even bring favreau into this, what exactly did he do before Iron Man to show that he was great (elf and zathura if I'm not mistaken). We just need a director who has a passion and understanding for the character.

Well said. Also, look at Richard Donner. The man had only directed one feature film before making STM, but was the perfect choice to make the movie because he viewed the job as protecting a piece of Americana. Donner took it very seriously and it showed.

A comic book movie does not need a big time director to be successful, what they need is a director who has nothing but the best intentions for the character(s) and the mythology their adopting to the screen.

A sequel isnt happening, IMO. We wont have another Superman movie for 3 years probably...

Zathura is exactly why I was excited for Iron Man. I loved that movie, and it showed that Favereau was very good and handling special effects and working with them at effective cost levels. What has this Berlanti guy done that makes him qualified to direct an epic science fiction superhero movie? Has anyone here even seen his movie (that's right, there's only one) that came out in 2000? I have not, but my gut tells me that you won't find anything in it that demonstrates why he's the right guy for GL.

I wouldn't fret about it, the Summit changed things a bit.

I cant help but fret, every time something looks positive it eventually gets shot right down, I'm just sick of it, i've kept quiet about it, only coming on here every now and again, but its just getting on my nerves.

Write a letter to WB, send an email.

I agree, everything sounds good to me regarding the development but I have questions on Berlanti being the director. I would feel much more comfortbale with Berlanti being a writer and producer and WB's hiring a different more experienced and accomplished director.

Greg Berlanti is a writer/producer for LOTS of television shows, including Eli Stone, Dirty Sexy Money, Brothers and Sisters and other shows over the years, shows that are often praised for their characterization. And I actually think the Broken Hearts Club is a decent flick.

And remember, James Cameron had only made Piranha II before Terminator, Bryan Singer had only made The Usual Suspects and Apt Pupil ( which are mostly character pieces with no FX ) and even Chris Nolan's previous films before Batman were hardly action/FX driven. Special effects stuff can be learned; talent for writing with depth is inate, or at least a lot harder to learn.

Plus, Berlanti is a big GL fanboy..that should count for something.

Thats why I used the past tense nightwing1977. When they announced the slate they hadn't signed him, sorry if you understood my post wrong, hope that clears it up.

Gotcha. It just the way you typed, it sound like you were saying that he hasn't sign up when he has. ;)

You know, reading some thread on Singer some minutes ago, I have the fear that given his sexual inclination, everything Berlanti will do, from casting to costume to story plot choices, will be tagged by forum trolls as "gay".
Said by people who enjoy reading stories about man in leotards.
