I think people are seeing what they want to see.

Nah, we were just focusing on similarities, as little as there are, as opposed to differences in this particular conversation, they look as mother and daughter as much as New 52 Hippolyta and Diana do, meaning not very much. Anyway, it doesn't really matter.

Why would I want to see similarities if she's not even my first choice to play Hippolyta (and I have said I think she looks more like Hera), and having stated that I don't think Hippolyta and Diana should necessarily look alike? It doesn't matter to me if they look alike.

And "they aren't even the same ethnicity"... so what? It's not like one is black and the other is asian. Nobody can deny Monica Bellucci is similar to Gal and they aren't from the same ethnicity either.

On those pictures, they look similar. You just have to look past the hair and eye colors. They change a LOT of someone's appearance. Like others have said, they have similar facial structure.

The only thing they have in common is they are beautiful women. One has Mediterranean features, one has Northern European features. They look nothing alike. If people like the idea of Kidman as her mum that's perfectly fine, but they've all got to stop looking for a resemblance that doesn't exist.

And that was the Clay origin so it was more of a coincidence than family resemblance.

Maybe in comics but blonde Hippolyta got more widespread exposure. Silver Age, Lynda Carter TV show, JLU, Injustice, New 52 (which this movie is using).

Chiang's version of Hera always gave me a vague hint of old Hollywood or Bewitched. Since Nicole Kidman played Samantha in the movie remake...I can't un-see her as Hera now.

I would personally prefer someone who has played some kind of warrior woman or action heroine before. That would lend a greater weight to Hippolyta that she was once a warrior princess too, in the same way that Russell Crowe gave Jor El a certain gravitas.

Don't know who there is like that though who also is a big name and can act. Lena Headey could work maybe, but she's not as big a name as Nicole Kidman.

Which reminds me... given that Lawless also made a "she looks like Xena" comment when the official pic of Gadot came out, she shouldn't be cast in million years.

But seriously, I'm getting sick of Carter and Lawless suggestions. Keep them both the hell away from WW solo.
