Superman Returns We don't like how this movie is looking (merged)

Sorry bud maybe world wide, but I hate to be a realist here, but Superman is not Star Wars, the following is not as big, its just a fact. 280-300 US dollars, worldwide probably the 450-500 range, but if that movie gross 400+ here in the US I would be surprised, with POTC and other summer blockbusters coming out weeks after this movie will fall to 4th,5th or 8th place probably by 5 weeks after its release.

Dude, I'm a huge Star Wars fan believe. Empire and Spidey 2 are my all time favorites. But you see. The Superman fanboys made me a believer. According to these guys Spider-Man 2 sucked. It was cheesy, crappy blah, blah. Superman could 'squash the spider' as one stated. They've helped me to see the light. Superman is too big and too popular. And if a 'crappy and cheesy' movie like Spider-Man 1 can do 400 mil, why can't the Man of Steel do that? Oh, and did you know that the world loves Superman?

I think WOM is more important, and I think that will sink Superman. Teenagers don't want to pay 8 bucks to see Superman fight a floating island when they can pay it to see Jack Sparrow fight Davey Jones

A lot of people would be surprise in here when POTC2 doesn't open as high as everyone is expecting (extremely high optimistic unrealistic numbers) and doesn't outgross original. Sequels following a super blockbusters don't outgross originals (at least PART II's only).

Pirates 1 grossed $305 million!. It barely passed it. Now this one is going to pass it with ease? A SEQUEL?

Like it or not, its a fact. Teenagers and kids don't want to sit through 2 hours of a drama with a love triangle and a kid that may or may not be Superman's to see it climax with Superman fighting a giant island.

From the beginning of Posseidon idea, I knew that it is going to get low numbers. I said it in Mis. Films forum. I said it will get $133m domesticly and $39m opening weekend.

And I have feeling that X3 will get bad WOM. It is my point of view

All in all Superman has quite a bit going for it, the better weekend to open with.... it gets out first and it should be just as much for familes and have the universal everyone factor as Pirates does.



the one issue, and I hate to bring this up may be the overall pallate of the movie, PotC has some very bright colors everything in Superman seems to be a bit more muted and toned down.... again something about the way it look reminds of the Matrix... but I am hopeing thats just the city (Both movies filmed in Sydney) and not the colors.... but something is there it seems dark at times.



I have always felt that Summer Superman will be the Winter Narnia to PotC & Kong..... many are going for Potc right now... huge anticiapation factors...... and yet at the same time Superan lies in wait and gets it's message out first.

POTC2 opens July 7th and has NO HOLIDAY BOOST whatsoever until Labor Day in September (its 8th or 9th week).

Not only need to open extremely high, it needs to stay for n#1 like for 5 or 6 weeks in a row to accomplish.

Why do you think line is $85 million for POTC2?

Because that is the most realistic opening number for this sequel.

People have big interest about SR, there is going to be 2nd full trailer

And even haters will go to see this film, even if they dont like it.

But what about reviews? I hope there will be enough positivity.

POTC2 will NOT have original legs. That's for sure. It will open higher, most people would see movie than people saw first one in the first three weeks.

And from I heard about the ending in this movie, fans will not be very happy. And the general public might not like it.

I just can hear people coming out of the theater saying....

"I liked original better than this one...." "Oh boy, another Matrix movie here...." (since they shot both POTC2 and POTC3 together)

If Spider-Man 2 can gross 180 million in it's first 6 days, Superman could do at least 225 considering that Spider-Man 2 'sucked' and that Spider-Man is not as popular as Superman. A huge opening weekend like say over will create a lot more hype for the movie help it to have stronger legs. Plus, I think the ladies will prefer Superman Returns over Pirates. People are over-estimating POTC2. I honestly don't see it crossing 300 million.
