Superman Returns We don't like how this movie is looking (merged)

how can anyone think that DVC will do well when movies like MI3, X3, SMR, POTC2 are coming out around the same time? IMHO most people who will go see DVC are all over 35 years old. DVC will make all its money the first weekend after that its going down because X3 comes out the week after. Alot of people 35 years old and older will not go to the movies when they know school is out teens will be at the movies from 3-midnight and they don't want to deal with that...IMHO thx:)norm

I totally agree with your point norminator

^Nope.

$75m opening weekend, $250m - $275m final.

500 mil Opening Weekend;)
1 Billion dollors total gross:D

I love how all these critics dismiss X3.
Exactly.
To be perfectly honest, all of these movies have a risk factor involved with the exception of X3. Everyone and their pet gerbil is going to go see X3. All the other anticipated hits will probably do very well, but there is a realistic chance that their rake-ins will not meet expectations.

I also believe the critics should have kept a better eye on Cars. This movie has "nothing" written all over it, but it's going to pull a fast corner around all competition.

75 million OW is way too low. If Returns opens in more than 4000 theatres, it will gross way more than that. And considering that there's absolutely no competition for Supes that weekend and all the hype that will be built till then, it will open to over 100 million. It just will man.

I would say $270-290m is good for SR.

But I have feeling, SR will make even more than it.

Agreed again! I think it'll make more than we expect.

You know before Sith opened I predicted that it would have a 52 million opening and a 97 million weekend. I considered so many factors. The guys on Boxofficemojo called me a delusional, crazed man. Well Sith went on to gross 50 mil on it's opening day and 108 mil first weekend. I'm telling you guys now that Superman will open to over 100 million. I'm predicting 120.

dude no offence..but sith was an end of an era... returns is a start of another.

Here are some good reasons for Superman Returns to do very well at the box office:

Proven character - Superman has been consistently one of the most popular superheroes for almost 70 years, with a fanbase that goes from 6 to 60.

Broad family appeal - Superman isn´t dark like Batman or violent like Wolverine. Parents can take their below ten kids to see Superman - remember how many parents complained that Batman Begins wasn´t for an eight year old?

Long absence - There hasn´t been a Superman movie in twenty years, and the last two have been forgotten a long time ago.

Nostalgia for the Donner movie - A lot of adults grew up loving the original Donner movie, that Singer´s one clearly evoques, with the Williams´theme and certain visual moments.

Old hero, new technology - Superman amazed audiences by his flying and superpowers FX almost thirty years ago, they can go even further now with the new technologies.

The Singer factor - Bryan Singer is a highly proven director, both artistically and commercially.
