What can DC/WB do now to move forward? Is there hope?

I don't think I can agree there. Both BvS & TDW are more enjoyable. I actually own GL on DVD (it was cheap and I thought "what the hell" so don't ask lol) and I haven't touched the damn thing in years. Every DVD I has gets watched at some point, not that.

Different strokes for different folks, though. I'd take BvS or TDW over GL any day.

Green Lantern is easier to watch compared to BvS (either cuts), it's also easier to sit through than Thor: The Dark World.
I successfully watched GL from start to finish, twice, and see the potential present there.
TDW lost me before the movie ended, never gave it a second chance.

I jsut fiinished denner and am sorta oud of it. I get popel might lik GL better then Thur. It'z the across the bored stuff I din't buy....zzzzzz....I think I need a glazzz of champain.

Cheers.....

I don't know anyone who liked BvS either. Not in general, nor with the geek community, and I am friendly with the staff in several comic book stores.

Interesting.

The owner of my local comic shop hated Trank's Fantastic Four. Beyond that, he likes/loves everything else, especially the Netflix shows, AoS, and, yes, MoS and BvS.

The only comics-related show he doesn't seem to watch is The Walking Dead.

You sure you didn't skip the champagne already and go straight to hard liquor? :oldrazz:

The Lego Batman Motion Picture will save DC Films

Any other answer will simply not suffice

It will make a lot of money, indeed. The LEGO Movie cost only $60 million to make. TLBM has to be in that neighborhood.

There is no DC Films, though. There's Warner Bros. and its many revenue streams.

It will do so without my contribution.

I'm honestly envious of that. Disliking movies based on characters you grew up loving isn't fun.

Does it have more to do with the comics, previous films, or a mixture of both? Just curious.

You mean my previous experiences with the characters? All of it. I grew up loving and consuming all sorts of superhero media; I own thousands of comics but don't read them anymore, so movies and TV shows is where I get my fix.

I grew up loving all comics and collecting them myself. Thor was my fav (probably because I was into mythology - esp Norse), but I was really into Superman. I used to watch the TV show with George Reeves when I was little (it was a little cheesy, but WTF) and really liked Christopher Reeves portrayal (esp the first movie). I tried to like later versions without a ton of success, but when MoS (and yes, especially the "climactic" kill scene), I was very disappointed. I don't know if I didn't like the movie or if it was the portrayal that bothered me, but that was a low point for me.

I liked the Michael Keaton BM and LOVED the Bale/Nolan version (let down a little bit by TDKR though). Then comes Marvel and they started making a whole string of good to really good movies and that's where I find myself now. While I found IM2 and 3 and Thor 2 the weakest offerings, they aren't bad movies IMO.

I know exactly how you feel. My favorite hero is Doc Savage....the 1975 movie is terrible. There is a fan edit reworking of it that makes it watchable....I at least have that.

I love seeing fan edits help 'fix' a movie. I think there's a cut of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace out there that's superior to the studio cut. Star Trek: The Motion Picture also had a fan edit cutting out a lot of unnecessary stretched out scenes.

There are still things I'd like to see.

An X-Men movie with Cyclops in the lead.
A FF movie that doesn't suck.
A good Wonder Woman movie.
And a good Justice League movie.

Yep. Same here.

Back to DC, I think they really should be focusing on making good standalone films before getting into Justice League, but it's kind of too late now. I keep picturing Justice League as an ensemble mess similar to Suicide Squad.

DC needs to be simple with these films.

No more of these grandiose themes and complex scheme twist.

I question if they can weave complex multi-layered stories and make it accessible to everyday people even though the scenes they produce are marketable and cuts into an amazing trailer.

I'm willing to give Wonder Woman the benefit of the doubt only because of the new production team running the fil but I'm still wary at this point.

Add 'Doctor Doom done right' to that list

Seems FF movies are... doomed to fail.

Not unless Marvel Studios gets a hold of FF.

Well there's that Shane Black/the Rock reboot in the works, right? Last I heard that was still on.

You can have complex, intriguing storylines as long as they're done right. I think Fox/Singer did pretty well with a couple of the X movies and DoFP was pretty convoluted.

Frankly, I think DCs problem is Snyder.

Really looking forward to WW. Someone said Snyder has his fingerprints on it. If that's true, it's troubling, but maybe not that significant.

The issue with DOFP is that it tried to connect First Class with the original X-Men films. It attempted to fix a lot of continuity errors but just introduced many new ones in the process. And now it kind of feels like all of the original films are somewhat pointless, but then again I don't even understand the X-Men movie timeline anymore.

Most MCU Marvel standalone films are relatively straight forward, but the key is that they take their time. Nothing is ever rushed. I think DC needs to learn from that.

If I were in charge, it would have started with:

1 solo Superman Film
1 solo Batman movie
1 wonder woman film
Batman v Superman
1 solo movie for Flash or Aquaman
Justice League

Something like that. JL is already coming out so it's too late to slow down on that front.
