You've got it backwards, Bane is the deception. That makes him the physical, the muscle, the spectacle for everyone to see and focus on. Everyone is looking at Bane out there in the streets speaking unintelligibly, meanwhile the brains of the outfit is working the plan behind the scenes.

The real plan is not 'give Gotham back to the people,'- which is the nonsense that Bane is spouting, the real plan is destroying Gotham and making Bruce watch helplessly. That's the plan which all stems from Talia's desire for revenge for the death of her father.

I don't see a reason for Bane to have an interest in Batman outside of his connection to Talia, so I don't see why Bane is an 'equal partner.' Therefore, Bane is simply the physical hand, the muscle of Talia's machinations.

I admit I was unable to memorize the film upon one viewing, but I thought Batman took it from Bane and then she took it from him when she stabbed him.

He was only in the League because of Talia. Remember he says "I am the League." Indicating he's its only member, because outside of Talia- he is the only member. Again- Talia.

Yes he needs motivation. He's not a psycho like Joker- that's the Joker's motivation. Remember what Alfred said about him? Some people just like to watch the world burn- or something to that affect.

Any good character needs motivation. Without Talia Bane doesn't have any motivation.

After my first viewing I was very disappointed in this film. The second viewing improved it significantly, but I still see it as the weakest link in Nolan's trilogy (but hey, if THIS is the weakest film, that is an accomplishment!).

Let me preface this with the fact that I found more to like than dislike overall.

What I don't like:

1. Bane's voice. I am getting more used to it, but I feel that it is just too much of a distraction.
2. The build-up of Bane to be the ultimate villain, only to pull a 180 and turn it into Talia.
3. Talia not given anywhere near enough development. The short romance between Bruce and Miranda just doesn't work to have any feeling of betrayal.
4. Not enough Batman.
5. The 8-year-gap could have been an exciting premise, but it is ultimately unnecessary and wasted. It's not given enough justification.
6. The pacing is very odd. The three months of 'No Man's Land' just doesn't seem chaotic or anarchic enough. The whole idea was to be classless - this is a theme of the film, but it doesn't deliver.
7. Catwoman was the standout for me, and yet...she is a little wasted. You could quite easily delete her from the film and have no real implications. That's a shame. She needed better integration, especially given the great performance Hathaway gave.
8. The fanservice of the line 'Robin'. It's hokey and unnecessary. Leave it at John Blake.
9. Not really a gripe, but part of me wishes that we only saw Alfred smile and nod at the cafe in Florence at the end - I wish we didn't get the shot of Selina and Bruce, just to have a bit of mystery about it.
