What do you want if there's a Fantastic Four reboot?

I'm no expert of the FF mythos, but I would think a story surrounding the Skrull would bring a good storyline. Correct me if I'm Wrong, but isn't there a story line where the skrull impersonate the FF and ruin their reputation? That storyline alone would be engaging, since our heroes would be shunned by the city that loved them.

In this plot, I'd have no mention of Doom. I know Doom is their worst enemy, but if he once again is tied in like with FF:ROSS and becomes a "super-Doom" -- then just end the franchise there. Leave him out, star another villain.

For some reason there's a replay in my head of Johnny getting attacked in public by a mob, because they think he (really a skrull) did something wrong (i.e. hurt a child, or attacked a school or something) would be interesting. It would make them vulnerable of the people they protect, and also put more of a personal super-family tone in it, since I can see Ben going out and starting trouble looking for the guys who attacked Johnny, and Sue sitting by Johnny while Reed is still trying to figure out how "they" committed the crimes.

The only problem is I can't figure out how to deliver it, without making it "too dark."

Don't know, just my opinion.

That doesn't sound any darker then Iron Man.

The FF can have serious events. Their no.1 enemy is Doom, after all.

You could put Lyja in that idea you mentioned. She impersonated Alicia in the comics then became Johnny's girlfriend.

Skrulls would rock on film.

They just need to be done well, just like everything else.

If Marvel does get the FF back, I would like to see movies based on the Kirby issues and the Byrne issues done as faithfully as IRON MAN was!

IRON MAN has certainly raised the bar, it seems.
(Raised it to where it should have been all along!)

Imagine, a movie being faithful to the comics...

It's not the only good comic adaption that's been successful the last few years.

You'd think Fox would notice these. It's like Fox erases them from their memories once they leave the theaters.

Is it possible you're remembering Civil War #1, when an angry mob attacks Johnny in public after the Stamford tragedy?

In FF #48 a mob attacks the Torch, thinking he is responsible for the flaming sky over the Earth [an illusion created by the Watcher to hide Earth from the Surfer], and the Thing comes to his rescue.

I want to see Doom done right, he has so much creativity. Although any movie that has Doom lose at the end will be mediocre at best.

I kid. But seriously I wanna see the comics' Doom onscreen.

Good idea about the skrulls too. It could be a great opportunity for Doom's origin to be stretched out, kinda like Harry in the Spider-man movies, only it'll be about a villain that's a million times better.

I'd like to see a spinoff of a solo Dr Doom film totally ignoring his flight into space. Hopefully in time the rights will revert back to Marvel and then they can focus on it.

The next FF film should focus on the Skrulls. And keep Jessica Alba away from this. I'd prefer a new cast for such a reboot. Chris Evans will be too old by then and maybe if Ioan Gruffudd wants to play Reed again, he'll be of a more ideal age. I'd still like to have Chiklis come back but he'll have to make some sacrifices.

If Marvel took over the reigns from Fox, I wouldn't mind Fox only distributing the film ala Lucasfilm and Star Wars. Maybe that's what Sony and Fox should really be doing and let Marvel tackle the creative side of the films. Bloody executive *******s oughta keep their fat noses out.

I always thought Ali Larter or Amy Smart would play a great Sue Storm, but who knows I mean it is a hard part to pull off. The looks are the easy part, but actually being able to play her her smart side might be a challenge.

Both Ali and Amy LOOK great, but they seem a little young to me...

I think Ali Larter can pull it off, I mean sure she might be young but maye make up can make her look a little older.

I always thought Jessica Alba would have made a better Crystal than Sue.

The problem with Jessica Alba is that she was completely unbelievable in the role, and very stone face. I dont know what I would cast her for in a comic book movie.

Not turn into into a bad comedy?

Get a better script which respects the franchise?

Recast Alba with a good actress?

The current staff botched every aspect of the franchise so badly it'll take a complete revamp like Batman Begins for the public to take FF seriously.
I don't get things like this. The Fantastic Four has always been "a bad comedy". Of the ones I own, it's one of the most light-hearted superhero comics I've ever read. I think the movie captured that perfectly.

And I think people are too comfortable with ripping on celebrities to realize Jessica Alba did a pretty good job.

They don't need a reboot. I could go for a really good sequel, though.

Skrulls and/or Mole Man. That's where I'm at right now.

I just want one thing...a new cast, director and screenwriter!!! Okay, so thats actually three things, but...

Director: James Cameron
Writer: Joss Whedon

Alexis Denisof as Reed Richards/ Mr. Fantastic

Rachael Taylor as Sue Storm/ Invisible Woman

or if you feel like going older...

Naomi Watts as Sue Storm/ Invisible Woman

Clive Owen as Victor Von Doom/ Dr. Doom

or

Daniel Craig as Victor Von Doom/ Dr. Doom

Very intriguing, Daniel Craig. I like it, though not my first choice. I want more of a Jeremy Irons or Frank Langella vibe from my Doom.

Oh, I'm sure they notice. But Fox's mentality is obviously minimize as much risk as possible at the cost of creativity and quality. Thereby guaranteeing some degree of profitability.

They probably look at films like Speed Racer and say "I told you so".

I had the same idea. It would be for the best and alieve the creative risk these studios are obviously so afraid of. However, the lure of huge profits...well, look at how much Marvel is raking in with IM and the potential with TIH.

I am sure everyone agrees that the best thing for the FF series would be it's return to Marvel!

Funny how that strategy hasn't worked out very well for their serial comic franchises. They got some profits, sure, but nowhere near the level the quality high profile adaptions IMO. Most either can't sustain sequels or have sequels which failed.

X-men 3 and Blade 3 certainly wouldn't have been as profitable without the previous quality sequels great reputations proceeding them.

They probably look at films like Speed Racer and say "I told you so".

If someone had told me it was Fox who made it I could have believed it.

Question: Which character do you think was screwed up onscreen more (thus prompting the desire for a reboot), Doom or Invisible Woman?

I want Ali Larter for Sue Storm. I was reading Ultimate FF the other day and its as if the illustrators modeled Sue's look after her...they look so much alike.

For a reboot... I would not do a redo of the origin. I would move on to the next story, and perhaps retcon some details from the other films. I would definitely recast the movie and do some things with CGI.

1) I would keep Chiklis as Thing in a costume (I like that they didn't just go the CGI route)... but I would use CGI to oversize him (like how the Hobbits were reduced in LOTR). He needed to be wider and fill up more space... including using CGI to expand the size of his arms... more costume would be too bulky to move with. I like his performance for the character.

2) I would cast Alice Evans as Sue Richards:

alice-evans.jpg

She is a bit older than Alba and is more believable as an intellectual character. Plus power Sue up a bit. She doesn't come across as powerful enough in the films. Make her more motherly... the responsible one (but anguished by her role in having to be that way all the time).

3) Keep Chris Evans... Torch / Johnny Storm worked great... But I would write him as a little less vain. It was annoying at times.

4) I like the idea of Anton Chigurh as Doom... (not sure if I would use him right off in a reboot though).

5) Recast Reed. Ion just didn't work for me...

6) Pan the love story stuff... The wedding is done, so we can move past that stuff (Reed's awkwardness around Sue, her longing sighs for his attention... done). But let some other personal stories get back in. Re-investigate Grimm's longing to look normal, torn by a commitment to remain a powerful hero... Johnny is maturing and coming more of age... He wants to be a hotshot, but knows that superheroism is important... especially if he gets a love interest, and another planetary threat comes along... plus I mentioned something for Sue above.

7) Make the suits look more interesting, and discuss their construction as unstable molecules.

8) Retcon past events a bit... Through dialogue, memories, etc... Make it so that Doom wasn't in the craft with them when they were exposed. Have the story be that he did try to get access to Reed's research with the Cosmic radiation that they were exposed to... he did steel the Surfers board and empowered himself... but slowly tweak him back to his comic book self.

9) Having encountered Surfer and Galactus would be a pretty big deal, even after they are gone... So open the story with Reed trying to monitor space and learn more about what is happenning now, and what happened before in Galactus' path on his way to Earth... This leads him to discover more Extraterestrial life forms abroad. They discover him, discovering them... and some interplanetary hoopla ensues (perhaps the Skrull). The final victory needs to come from technology... I can't believe that they missed having Reed supersize his tacion generator (that stunned the Surfer) and make adjustments so that Surfer could supercharge it, as the means to thwart Galactus.

Anwyay... less silly and more techy... more gravity of the situation moments...
