What made this movie a let down for the majority of the fans?

This thread should be called:

"What made this movie a let down for the majority of the FANBOYS?"

It's pretty clear now that most people like this movie.

I called this thread "What made this movie a let down for the majority of the fans".

The movie being a let down doesn't mean people didn't like it. I did like the movie, VERY much, but still couldn't help feeling that. I've been reading this forums closely and I don't think my title isn't accurate. The movie, among the people who both like it or not, was a let down.

Moving on...

I agree.

People saying that's it a horrible movie should go and watch a Uwe Boll flick. Now those are travesties.

OK, again. The movie being a let down doesn't mean it isn't a good movie or that people didn't like it. I started the topic and I DO like the movie.

Wasn't a horrible flick by any means. This isn't Batman & Robin we got. Nor was it Daredevil or Fantastic Four. But it wasn't a great Spider-Man film. A good one but not great. Honestly, they put too much into the film. They should of focused just on Sandman and Harry. And leave Venom out. Keeping Brock is okay. I just wish they just would of ended the film with Brock getting the symbiote and becoming Venom. Great cliffhanger.

in the end, it all boils down to this: the movie just had no focus AT ALL. it bounced from place to place, from plot to plot, from mood to mood, without stopping for more than 5 minutes. it just had NO idea what it was supposed to be.

The funny thing is, although there was supposedly alot of things crammed into the movie, there wasn't really. It just seemed that way. For example, where was the main villain threat? I understand the overall threat in the movie was meant to be Peter, himself. There just wasn't that impending face-off between hero and villain. I suppose the reason I feel that there wasn't much to the movie was because it was alot of nothing-ness. Don't get me wrong I liked it, but it was in the sense that everything was just kind of thrown together.

I'm let down in the fact that it'll become another overrated spider-man movie.

Years from now people will look back and realize what could have been... but by then it'll be too late.

I agree. The major villian focus was Peter has Black Suited Spidey. However, I wish they would of focused more on this and leave Venom out of the picture. At least, until the very end.

Like another website said, I'm sure it was www.joblo.com, there was enough in S-M3 to make at least two movies. But again, its like there wasn't even really a villain. Although to be honest there wasn't really one promoted for the movie. For example I remember S-M2 and the first poster of Doc Ock, it's kinda like they but the other villains in because they had to. I actually thought Harry was probably the best character in the movie, and I don't even really like Harry.

Iit wasn't a bad film but also wasn't as great as it could have been.

It's just poor filmmaking, pure and simple. Some scenes become too long without ever saying something (or could have been more effective if it was shorter), some scenes become redundant, some scenes that supposedly should touch our emotions don't connect at all, etc.

S-M3 is like junk food. Yeah, it can make us full, but later on we'll realize it's empty...

So yeah, S-M3 is reminiscent of X3 insofar as X3 also tried to join multiple arcs together (Dark Phoenix and Cure storylines) and failed. But still, S-M3 is classier (and has more creative ballsy) than X3...

The thing that bothered me most of this movie is looking at the acting (mostly fron Tobey and Dunst), they looked like they didn´t want to be in there at all...

in some part they acted just as if they were reading straight from the script

I'm not upset about the orgin of the Sandman. That's how it was in the comics. The whole thing about the Sandman is that he's the guy who wants to do the right thing but always ends up in a bad situation. How he gets his powers is pretty much in line with how he got them in the comic book. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time just like everything else in his life.

The one thing that got me was the speech that Harry's butler gave him about his father. What kind of friend is he. He knew all these years that Green Goblin Sr. was killed by his own glider and he let Harry sulk around for all these years. What's up with that!!!???

Well, he probably was just hoping that Harry would never find out at all and so kept it a secret. The whole butler interjection seems way to convenient of a plot device though. It felt very forced.

I honestly thought it was the best in the series. I'm kinda surprised by this thread, actually.

You shouldn't have to "adjust your expectations" to enjoy a movie.

I didn't say "lower", I said "adjust", or even better, completely do away with. Because I think we can all agree, the hyping and pre-imagining that we all did on here prior to this film's release was immense, definitely unrivaled in the history of the franchise, and my point was that most of the disappointment simply stems from a disparity in what we were expecting and what the film actually was, no more, no less.

I was let down for a number of reasons
1.I was over hyped my fault happened with X3 too.
2.Venom got the dark phoenix treatment. He wasn't a threat. They didn't develop his hatred at all.One minute he is transforming the next swing through the city like a pro.The whole symbiote/Venom story was rushed and very last minute.
3.I didn't think the symbiote made you goofy instead of angry and vengeful.{Although there are scenes that portray like the fight with sandman i felt instead of having him dance down the street pointing at women we could have had seen the Symbiote spider-man breaking thugs arms really beating them near death.}
4.Scenes that didn't make sense and showed the poor writing of the script.EX.
The butler scene was one hell of a big cop out.It was like they wrote themselves into a corner and said how the **** do we get him to the battle royale?
Peter kissing Gwen in front of Mary Jane was completely out of character.
5.The fact the film had no focus and jumped all over the place.

A few other things but these are the main ones.

It was crammed up Ramis butt then he crapped it out and, hyped it, and now we see where it really came from.

The only thing that really disappointed me about the movie is they didn't do a very good job with Dark Peter. I kinda wish they would've used Black Cat in the movie because I think she could've really brought out the dark side of Peter more, using Gwen as a way to make MJ jealous I don't think worked quite as well, because they were too similar. If they used Black Cat it would've worked great, someone that could enjoy both sides of Peter's life. Have them get more and more dangerous and at one point cross or almost cross a line that snaps Peter out of it. I'm not sure how to write her exit, but I think she could've really helped push the dark Pete angle more than Gwen did. Mainly, my disappointment came from dark Peter being more chessy than dark.

I didn't understand why Gwen was in the film. She seemed to just be there for the fanboys......for everyone else, she was just some other chick....

Me, as a hardcore fan, enjoyed the film. However, many of my friends and other people that have seen the film say that it sucked. And I understand why. It was too long, there was too much going on, and the dancing was completely unnecessary.

My problem with the movie was when he had the black suit. Everything up to that was great, and once he got rid of it in the bell tower, all was well again. But this whole movie was built up to be about the darkness within Spider-man, and then when Raimi got the chance to do that, he turned it into a SPOOF. I mean, I understand what he was trying to do, but many people did not.

The one other thing I really wanted was at the end, when MJ and Peter got back together, for her to finally say "Face it tiger, you hit the jackpot."
