I wonder what the longest we've had to wait for Spider-Man news was? I remember Thomas Haden Church was cast in SM3 in March of '05, and we didn't even find out who he was playing until November of that year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm so glad we got the Raimi spiderman, but I always wondered what the James Cameron spiderman film he pitched would've been like had it took off. His ideas sounded so rad! And I personally think he's a great filmmaker, and was at his prime back then. And I heard he was eyeing Leonardo Dicaprio for Peter, which May or may not be true I didn't fact check that

James Cameron script is floating around somewhere online and there are some youtube videos which talk about it. I think there were two scriptments he penned. One of them featured Doc Ock, and the other one featured two villains Based on Electro and Sandman. MJ was the love interest.

I know the organic webshooters and Ben being carjacked were two ideas from the Cameron script that made it into SM1. He mentioned that he liked Leo for the role back when Titanic was a hit but there weren't any negotiations or anything.

The line 'Misery, misery, misery' made it into SM1.

Organic webshooters.
Car jacking.
That line that GG says
And they didn't give Cameron a credit. Harsh.

Technically, it made more overseas than TASM, but that was due to not opening the same week as TDKR in China. TASM2 made less than TASM worldwide and domestic. Otherwise, a good article.

Anyone notice when you type amazing spider-man 2 box into Google, amazing spider-man 2 box office disappointment is the 2nd option on the list?

Just noticed they were talking about the next 3 years, so that Deadline article reporting that all the spin offs will be released in a 3 year span has basically been confirmed. I think a phase 4 return might still be in the cards.

If I'm not mistaken Google Search doesn't work that way. Every user gets different options depending on his website surfing behavior/data or something like that. I'm too lazy to look it up but the bottom line is what you see doesn't mean everyone else see it too. Mine shows "Amazing spider-man 2 deleted scenes" for example.

Wait. when you type in "amazing spider-man 2 box" you get "Amazing spider-man 2 deleted scenes" in the bar? It completely ignored the word box?:hmm

I got "amazing spider-man 2 box office disappointment" as well. I have never searched for anything like that before or thought it was such a disappointment, so I don't know that it's based on my surfing behaviour at all.

Are you sure you typed "Amazing Spider-Man 2 box"? and not just "Amazing Spider-Man 2"? If you type the second one, you do get "Amazing spider-man 2 deleted scenes" as the first hit, but it's different if you include the word "box".

My first few options for "Amazing Spider-Man 2 box" in Google:

BoxOfficeMojo.com
Wikipedia (the article on the movie)
The Wrap (saying the movie crossed 700 million)

Fifth option is Should Sony Panic About The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Box Office Sales? from fool.com

Says jack about deleted scenes anywhere on the first page.

The Spider-Man news is getting dry... A nice Sony/Disney announcement would keep us going for the next year or so. The speculation alone is enough to revive these boards.

I'm convinced its better business if Sony sells the film rights to Disney for 1.5 billion. It's more they will earn in future Spidey films.

TASM2 had a budget of 200 million plus spent an additional 180-190 million to market the film meaning Sony spent 380-390 with some reports saying they spent a total of 450 million total with budget and marketing and the film only made 700 million.

Did it make money back? Yea it may some profit but when you look at how much Sony spent on the film, you can't tell me they are happy with how much money they made.

When you look at impact, TASM2 is very low. More people loved Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Guardians, Cap 2, & X-Men DOFP than TASM2 and are interested in the next film in those respected series than people interested in TASM3 & Sinister Six.

Hell I could say Man of Steel did better. Weeks before the film came out, it made 200 million in sponsors and merchandise sold. It also was like the 4th highest DVD/Blu-Ray sold I believe but it was higher than Iron Man 3 which made more at the BO.

I doubt TASM2 Blu-Ray sales will be that high at the end of the year.

No matter how you twist and turn it, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a disappointment.

There's no way Disney will spend that amount of money for a character they have the comics, TV, video game, and merchandise rights to, who just had a disappointing film and when the MCU is doing fine without him.

The return on investment for 1.5B just in movie rights is a LONG time.

How long will it take for Spidey's movie rights to put 1.5B in Disney's pocket? If bought outright, they'd be making solo films 100%. They're never going to see a R.O.I of 1.5B just in Avengers movie increased sales because of Spidey. If they buy outright it will be for the intention of rebooting the character, incorporating him in the upcoming Avengers films and having his own MARVEL solo films. Otherwise, it just doesn't make sense... At a 1.5B price tag. Could be less, especially with Sony's latest two installments.

The next film is gonna feel the impact of TASM2 bad will on opening weekend even if it is good.

If it gets good reviews which leads to buzz people will see it Days of Future Past was slated on these websites CBM in the comment section while it was in production but it got critical acclaim and those same people ended up loving it

I have no problem if Sony don't give the rights back but if they do Marvel should reboot the character if I was in charge of a franchise I wouldn't want to continue somebody else's work I want to start fresh with new ideas

Yes but we're talking opening weekends rather than legs which are a better indication of quality and audience perception. DOFP's opening weekend domestically was disappointing when compared to X3 which came out 8 years earlier but the reviews and word of mouth helped it finish strongly.

There's a difference between DOFP and Sinister Six/TASM3.

DOFP came after First Class and The Wolverine which were well received.

TASM2 wasn't well received.

The guy's 87 years old, maybe he's not the best fit for a young smart-alecky superhero anymore. I'd like someone like Nicole Perlman, who wrote the first draft of GOTG that impressed everyone, or one of those young people with cool ideas whose specs make it into the Black List. The character needs fresh blood badly.

Seeing as he wrote ASM1, I'd say he's perfectly capable.

A GotG writer wouldn't hurt at all, though, yeah.

I'd like to see Garfield as Spider-Man at least one more time. Hopefully two more times, if both S6 and TASM3 come out.

I would as well, however... If recasting means Spidey would be in the MCU, so be it. I'd like for Garfield to be in the MCU as Spidey, but if putting him in the MCU means an absolute recast... Bye bye Garfield, thanks for an awesome take on Peter Parker.

I wish I could've gotten on board with Garfield. I think he's talented but not a great PP/Spider-man. But that's mostly due to the writing and also that he's not geeky/nerdy enough.

Recasting and rebooting would be a huge plus in my book. But after a long needed (and IMO necessary) break.

Hire John Sempter, the screenwriter and producer of Spider-man the animated series from the 90's, as the screenwriter for the new film

Hire Sorkin. The dialogue and pacing (tight script) were fantastic in Social Network.
