Did you real what the deal was? Sony would still have creative control over the character. Marvel was smart for turning it down, it was a terrible offer.

Indeed it would still be a crappy Sony movie & the character would be the crappy Sony character version

Sony would've had to pay for marketing and distribution which would cost as much as production. They'd share profits and Spidey would be in the MCU that's a better deal for Marvel than not having Spidey at all.

It's clear that they're never gonna get Spidey outright

Thats pretty much MARVEL selling their souls & having 2 put up with the likes of Avi Arad. Smart move on MARVELs part. They want Spider-Man back. They don't want the Sony version plain & simple

If Spidey is going to be with Marvel, they need to call the shots... Period. You can't have your player playing for another team, and his old coach telling him how to play.

But the biggest problem with the Spider-Man franchise atm is Sony's "creative control". Allowing Spider-Man to join the MCU in a co-production with Sony where Sony retained control risks both franchises. Sony could do something in the Spider-Man films that could cause damage to the whole MCU, and that is not something that Marvel is willing to risk. Marvel would need to have creative control, one of the most important things about having a large unified universe like the MCU is making sure that everything fits, letting Sony do whatever they want would not work.

Ultimately Marvel would like Spider-Man in the MCU but they don't need him. Lets face it, Marvel made far more from the merchandising than Sony made from the film itself.

With Sony's offer to share Spider-Man, he'd be in the MCU and both studios would profit but alas Marvel declined to play ball and screwed over the dreams of their fans.

At least now people can stop going on saying Sony should make a deal with Marvel since they tried

:whatever:

Might as well post here too:

From a source familiar with the matter, I can report that the deal Sony finally rejected was NOT a Marvel trilogy of movies that Sony would have control over. Instead, it was a co-production deal where Marvel and Sony would split future Spider-Man film costs 60/40 (Marvel paying the larger part) while MARVEL retained control of the Spider-Man creative property with the potential to have him cross-over into Marvel’s Phase films, like an appearance in Captain America: Civil War.

Some very interesting stuff over on LatinoReview, but I'm pretty sure I can't link the article due to language.

That LR post sounds like our best case scenario for the character.

So Marvel would have creative control then and they'd share the costs 60/40 and presumably profits 60/40. They're not gonna get a better deal than that

Start from scratch but not necessarily a reboot.

Keep Andrew and act like the first two never happened. Have it take place two or three years after. Use this opportunity to have 3-5 be a real trilogy.

Heres what I want to happen

Rights revert to MCU.

We get a Spiderman tv series
We also get a Spiderman and the Defenders movie series

No solo Spidey movie series for a while

That's not going to happen. Spidey and Starlord are the most likely candidates to become the new face of the brand (saving them tons on RDJ).

None of what I listed stops that from happening.

A spiderman movie featuring the defenders will be awesome

It's ridiculous to think how many threads and sub-forums will close down if the rights revert to Marvel.
