The Dark Knight Rises What the RISES might imply...

Why would they pin the death of Dent on Batman if they have no proof he did it?

From the final dialogue in TDK: "Call it in", as in "Tell them you saw me do it".

I'm talking strictly in a metaphorical sense.

The one definite thing I hope the title implies is that the focus goes back to Bruce Wayne/batman.

All the films prior to Batman Begins made the lead character a supporting player to the villains. Batman should be the protagonist in his own films. They lost focus of this in TDK giving Dent the meaty character arc, and I hope Bats/Bruce is front and center again this next go around.

TDK lost focus screentime-wise, Dent got the meaty arc as far as the surface level of the script is concerned (and in no way am I saying that his arc was superficial). He was the backbone of the story, but Batman had a fantastic story arc that was very very subtle. But it was there. Batman changed, evolved.

I do agree with you, though, more screentime for Bale would be golden. Especially as Bruce. I missed than with TDK.

Yes, but perhaps too subtle for my liking. I know Rachel was Harvey's girl in TDK, but I think her death should have been felt more from Bruce's angle, as we spent that build up with him and her in Begins.

I also think the recasting of Rachel took away from that, (which worked more in Harvey's favor) but Bruce got one couch sitting moment with Alfred and Harvey got all the torment and rage.

It's not screentime, so much as Bruce having the more dramatic moments to deal and cope with, as he is supposed to be the main character.

Fair enough. However, this way Nolan showed how much more Bruce/Batman could take than Dent. His reaction was fantastic and I didn't need anything more than a couch sitting moment to showcase that Bruce 1.is incredibly strong inside and 2.he had a job to do at the time, he put his mission over his personal feelings and for the first time started to realise what being Batman meant.

I'll get back to you on that when we find out who the villains are.

Why do people hate the character of Jean Paul Valley/Azrael so much?

I'd be fine if Batman became the legend we know in this film. I think that's the way to go in fact.

And I absolutely want something that can be seen as a contained franchise, or the first part of the new Batman mythology should another director/team come along who wants to delve deeper into it.

I don't really mind the concept of Jean Paul Valley, but I wouldn't think he could be done justice in TDKR. I'd gladly see a movie that includes him as Batman's replacement, just not this one.

I'm not really a fan of the character. But he could work in TDKR, just not as Batman's replacement. They could tweak it to make him just a badass vigilante on the scene that takes things much farther than Batman would and Batman has to bring him down because they have very different views, Azrael's being far more extreme. The difference is he actually poses a threat to Batman unlike the batman wannabees in TDK.

Batman doesn't need to be out of commission for that to work, nor does he have to take over the batman mantle (which is lame)

But that could very much work.

I never minded people taking over the Batman mantle (when done well). In that respect I would like Jean Paul in a future film, for this kind of role.

As for your suggestion for Asrael... since 2Face is dead I can't really disagree with you. If he were alive, I would want this to be 2Face's schtick, at least in the beginning of TDKR (and slowly becoming a full blown criminal).

I want a villain who actually poses a physical threat to Batman. Not just tests his mind.

There's really no reason Hugo Strange couldn't both test Batman's mind and his physical ability. Especially if he was, say, armed with fear gas.

Don't wet my appetite with Strange being in TDKR, or even better, Strange working with Crane. Stop!

Fear gas was played out. I'm not saying Strange couldn't test batman, but i'd rather it be another way.

Rise. Ra's. RISE. RA'S. Say them back to back over and over again, and they start to sound the same. Then slap yourself for over-analyzing things.

Hahahahaha! It's like the "Severus Snape=Sever a Snake" speculation before the 7th Harry Potter book came out!

You mean like Rah's? Or, hell, even the Joker, who had Batman on his ass?

Ra's tested him when Bruce was coming into his own.

Joker just sneak attacked him with a crow bar.

I want a villain who treats Batman in his prime like a ragdoll. Picking him up and lashing him into walls.

Rah's did treat Batman like a rag doll. Anything more brutal and it starts to go into Jean Claude Van Damme territory.

Not really. You put one of Ra's battles up say against any of the Bourne battles and it looks like child's play.

And it doesn't have to go into Van Damme territory, for it to get more brutal.

So you want Batman to be beaten up Bourne-style and thrown into walls? Go for it.

I guess seeing Batman get 'beaten like a rag doll' by Rah's and trounced on by the Joker is pretty much enough for me.

I think Bane (revamped without the venom injections and made as just one seriously jacked dude) could be a good henchman or muscle for Deacon Blackfire.

That's a combo I wouldn't mind seeing.
