Days of Future Past What you didn't like about X-Men:DOFP - Flaws/Critiques

maybe I misheard things but in the scene where Magneto is telling Charles "you abandoned us" didn't he say that Warren ,Banshee and a few others were killed?
How did Warren die pre-1973?

He was referring to Angel Salvadore who was in FC.

Although there was quite a bit of good Sentinel action in the future scenes, I still am a bit disappointed the Sentinels in the past were wasted. I understand that there weren't any X-men with power displays like Havok to have a really good battle, but I think Magneto should have controlled them later to take out the threat as opposed to him being behind their attack from the start.

Ah, that's what it is! So the reason for that look is digital vs being shot on film? I'm all for film then

Sometimes digital can look gorgeous (Skyfall, most of David Fincher's work, Prisoners) but in this film, it looked kinda amateurish and cheap.

When they were at the plane I was wondering why they were letting Quicksilver go but then I remembered Erik's line "I don't know karate but I know crazy." No one would want a loose cannon kid along on such a sensitive mission no matter how powerful he is. I have NO problem with them leaving Quicksilver at that point.

If Mystique had met Trask before (in order to copy him and his fingerprints) why not just impersonate him like she will with Senator Kelly in the future? Slip in and kill him in his sleep and then end the Sentinel program disguised as him? Why disguise yourself as a Vietnamese military peon to get to him during a crowded meeting/peace conference?

Something that is kind of minor but has annoyed me throughout the series is that all the children in the school look completely normal. There seems to not be a visible mutation on any of them. In some of the movies (X2) the children are even scared by different looking mutants such as nightcrawler.

thats cause mr Xavier is trying to portray mutants to the world as non-threatening just as humane as the next person. Can't do that with a freak show apparently. (It's why nightcrawler has a shape shifter thing in x-men evolutions).
He's basically a mutant racist who leaves the alien looking weirdos to rot in the sewers with the morlocks.

JUST JOKIN!

i mean not really tho

Again who was the African American mutant in Saigon with Havok, Toad, and Ink?

As someone that was looking forward to the Future scenes much much more than the FC cast, I actually quite liked the past scenes more. I couldn't help but dread every time I sense the movie is about to transition into the future scenes.

I just didn't think the future scenes were effective enough. I think a scene where the future characters were more proactive, as opposed to just hiding out, waiting for the inevitable would've made their scenes more effective and the characters in the future, much more important to the plot. Ergo, I think cutting the Rogue scene was a mistake. Patrick Stewart's Xavier literally did nothing in the future scenes other than having others protect him inside the monastery.

I think the movie establishes pretty early that it's useless to go against Sentinels. It's a lost battle, as evidenced throughout the story.

The X-Men having a more active role against Sentinels would result in quick deaths. That's the whole point of the film: they can't fight the Sentinels, all they can do is run, and hope for them to not ever be created.

And Professor Xavier's power has absolutely no effect on robots, so he's pretty useless too.

My only flaw is I would have liked a poster or scene like the Wolverine & Kitty comic cover of issue 1 of DOFP.

Other than that, I had no problems.

Just saw it today and liked it...didn't love it, but liked it. It was certainly 10x better than X3.

My main complaint is the same for all of the X-movies.....some characters are misused. Mainly Colossus....he never seems to be all that strong nor all that durable. In X3 we had both Juggernaut and Colossus in the same movie and somehow their paths never crossed...stupid.

And in DOFP he just is there to get is ass kicked. Would have been liked to see him be more of a powerhouse.

I do think the future Sentinels were ridiculously over-powered, I would have liked each future X-Man to take a few out before dieing, especially the more powerful ones like Colossus, Magneto, Storm and Bishop.

I actually liked how hopeless the future felt.

I did like that, but I wanted the X-Men to be able to put up SOME fight and be able to hold their own for a while at least.

I understand what you mean.

I still thought it was nice how Storm and Magneto destroyed a bunch/most of them. Sadly the ones who escaped were enough to destroy everyone.

I can understand how it would have been difficult to meld but I would have really liked to have seen more involvement from the original trilogy cast in the story aside from Wolverine of course.

It just felt too much like glorified or actual cameos for them and the marketing was pretty misleading on that part.

I got pretty nostalgic towards the last scene and kinda wished they were just brought back into action?

I don't understand this: Storm's gale force winds were crushing the Sentinel warships together so she wasn't exactly being ineffective there. And we all saw when she and Magneto did with that Blackbird for the Sentinels that jumped ship. It's just that there were sooooo many of them.

Speaking of being powerful...

Earlier in the film, only two Sentinel warships went out for Kitty, Peter, Bobby, Bishop, Blink, Warpath and Sunspot. Did anyone else notice that there were TWELVE warships sent for Storm, Magneto, Xavier, etc. Why so many? Too many class 4 and 5 mutants in one location huh?

I didn't like the final battle in the movie and I was let down. I was hoping to see this really epic final battle where we see the X-Men First Class team fighting sentinels in the past and the original trilogy cast fight them in the future. We kinda got that here, but honestly it was a massive let down considering there was so much potential there to really have this awesome X-Men movie final battle with this huge cast from past and present.

Honestly I really didn't like how all of the mutants from First Class were just killed off. While yes some were dumb like Angel but Emma Frost should survived. She plays a big role in the comics and would have liked to see her character develop past one movie. Who knows maybe she will come back but most likely she is another great character wasted like many others before her.

Well, the version played by January Jones should not come back in any timeline. LOL That actress was terrible for the role. :csad:

X-Men DOFP was the "Jackman/McAvoy/Fassbender/JLaw movie. Although we got some good scenes from Prof X and Magneto in the future, it was just somewhat disappointing to not see them build on any other mutant storylines, characters, powers, etc. Basically the storyline went like this...

Future: Special effects and action heavy
Past: Meat and potatoes of story and acting

Overall, a good movie. But did it help build the X-Men universe? I'd say no. It only tore down X-3 and built a foundation for X-Men Apocalypse and beyond.

Sometimes we have to take one step back to take two steps forward...

Loved the movie, just loved it.
Nitpicking here, buy why didn't Prof X just exercise his brain and take control of Trask to wipe out all his physical research then wipe his brain clean? Seems like a simpler solution than chasing down Raven. :D

Because it's not in Xavier's character to do so, he was trying to show them a better path, not manipulate the who they are into becoming someone else. He will use his power responsibly. Just like how he let Magneto go instead of leaving him for dead on the White House lawn.
