Days of Future Past What you didn't like about X-Men:DOFP - Flaws/Critiques

I didn't like that Xavier got his legs back. Kind of felt like a cop out so that Mcavoy didn't have to be in a wheelchair.

But the drug addiction was kinda interesting.

This. What does him being paralyzed have to do with his mutant powers? If the serum influence mutants abilities it should only effect his telepathy….

Also, i didn't like the fact that Logan wasn't the one to find Mystique during the last assassination attempt; he could have tracked her by her smell.

The lack of Cable.

Just really a artistic choice type of thing, but I didn't like how they chose to do the "slow motion" effect for that shot of Future Professor X covering his face as the Sentinels were about to blast him and everyone else in the room. Given on how great all of the previous slow motion shots (which were actually filmed to be slow motion) were in the film, this really jarred out since it looked like they decided last minute to slow down the shot, hence why it doesn't transition well.

I thought there were going to be more cameos and references to other characters in the books. The opening segment gave us quite a it of B/C listers with a cast of Sunspot, Warpath and Blink, but outside of this and the one with Havok, they were quite light on it. I thought the film would be bigger in scale as well in terms of characters. I heard it was overcrowded but it didn't seem that large

Way too much Mystique.

The serum suppresses one's mutant abilities. Its why it deactivated Beast's in that scene towards the end when he overdosed on them to hide from the sentinels

Given they were in such a big public place and he shouldn't have been able to get that close to a secret service agent, it was more effective and covert for Xavier to track and mentally freeze Raven than Logan pacing about trying to track her smell.

Exactly. His paralysis has nothing to do with his mutants abilities, so he should have remained unable to walk regardless.

Him losing his mutant abilities was a side effect of the drug. I don't get what is so hard to buy here. Its not a foreign concept that drugs can have different effects on a person outside of their intended use. The drug was obviously developed by Beast to control his outward appearance so he could live a "normal" life when interacting with the general public. While developing it, he likely found that it had regenerative properties, which is why he gave some to Xavier for his leg, which of course would have affected his telepathy since its primary activity was to suppress mutant abilities

They just needed a way to "devolve" Xavier's character to make the story work or make it better. A serum that gives him his legs and takes his powers away is certainly plausible enough.

I don't know what the heck you are all going on about with this Xavier serum.

It wasn't the same as the Beast serum, as Hank says it was specially developed to treat Xavier's spine. It was based partly on Beast's serum but not identical.

and it had the same effect as Beast's serum which was why its mentioned. He didn't/couldnt remove that aspect from it

I didn't like having Xavier walking around after he was crippled (don't like it when it goes back and forth in the comics either). However, this actually led to some worthwhile plot points. It was Xavier's decision that led to the scattering of First Class and probably the death of most of them. The decision to regain his powers was also the decision to choose to be both a mutant and a cripple rather than a fully functioning, normal person. That decision must have been really hard...and its a decision that others, like Rogue, opted to go the other route. It also is him discovering in his own mind that, in a sense, Magneto is right. Rather than hide our difference and try to pretend that they aren't mutants, it was better to embrace what you are...handicaps and differences and all.

He has a point though.

Dinosaurs? No!

Shi'ar? Yeah, they should introduce them in some movie down the road.

Hey, I want the Savage Land in one of these films.

Woah Savage Land? Seriously? Maybe you're just better suited for the Avengers lol.

And regarding Xavier walking, I didn't like the idea behind it before I saw the movie, but the movie really sold me on it. The drug addiction angle and his difficult choice made it a very crucial element to Xavier's character. Well done movie.

I do wonder what was the original trigger to pull Xavier out of his funk and get him to stop using the drugs and get back to teaching

I want the folks over at Fox to start thinking BIG with regards to these films. That's what the competition does and is why they keep winning. Fox wants more success. Well you need to go bigger or go home if that is the case, otherwise give up designs to copy the competition. It's pretty simple, really. Now they are moving in somewhat of the right direction but it's slow progress. They could speed it up by having more confidence to take bigger risks and expand their horizons with regard to what these IP's can do.

It seems that they kind of want us to forget about Rebeccas Mystique, not having her show up in the future scenes seemed like a glaring overlook.

The past scenes didnt really match up at all with the OT movies.

It focused on the school, though, not on the whereabouts of the Brotherhood. It showed what Logan saw when he woke up. He wouldn't be seeing Mystique and Magneto and whichever other villains.

Savage Land would be cool but it would be hard to fit in Dinosaurs and Sabretooth cats with the semi-grounded route they went with for these X-men films.

I could only see them bringing this in many years down the line when they reboot the entire series.

If they did do the Savage Land, it probably wouldn't be recognisable dinosaurs and sabretooth cats, but more some sort of fantastical mutant creatures that had been created by Sinister/High Evolutionary/Apocalypse.

More of the FC score would have been cool. Especially Magneto's theme.

And Trask was under developed.

I take it you're just talking about this current series correct? I wouldn't mind your idea because it would still branch out and give us a bit more of the fantasy side from the comics. I don't even need dinosaurs, just that secret land in the Antarctic alone would be neat. :woot:

The Savage Land isn't even a priority in the books, so I don't expect it to be one on film.

My only gripe was that when Kitty was bleeding, Iceman didn't use his powers to pressurize the wound. He was just standing there worried.

That Rogue's DNA wasn't used to develop the Sentinels when her power was closer to the ability shown by them and not Mystique.

That Colossus was totally underused.

Yes, in this current series, they'd probably make it more like I suggested, but I don't think it's that high on the list at the moment.

She was cured. So she didn't have mutant DNA. In her case, the cure may have 'stuck', whereas it clearly didn't with Magneto.
