Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1

Had to rewatch this in preparations for the 2nd part. I almost forgot how good this part 1 was. The music, the action, and especially Peter Weller as Batman.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2

Incredible, they didn't take any safe routes in telling this half of the story. I haven't read the graphic novel in a while but I'm pretty sure they played it out almost exactly from the book. Michael Emerson as the Joker and Mark Valley as Superman were absolutely amazing, they really got the tone right. I really want to see DC/WB take on Long Halloween and Dark Victory as their next Batman project. I think they can handle it right just like how they handle this two parter for TDKR.
10/10

^Agreed with both. The only problem I have with either of them is the box art could have been so much better. And that's a great thing to critique since it shows how great the actual movie is.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2009)
9/10

It's different, doesn't start a tad muddled as Fincher's adaption, no scene with Lisbeth visiting her legally appointed guardian talking about the removal of his tattoo (which came out of nowhere in Fincher's version), and took a different route with the ending
One thing I did like in Fincher's adaption more is how Mikael eases up the mood between him and Lisbeth when they meet, although I don't blame the Swedish version guy for being angry

Now to read the book, and see who took more liberty adapting it

The Incredibles. Seriously this is one of the perfect superhero movies in my eyes. I still can't believe a sequel has never come to fruition

What's the big fascination with Kat Dennings? Who is she anyway, was she the dark haired girl in Californication? I only bring it up because I've seen her name popping up all over the SHH since I joined.

I *could* Google her, but I assume the answers here will be more entertaining than just finding out for myself.

She's an awful actress. She was that annoying girl (Darcy) in Thor and is on Two Broke Girls.

She happens to be very attractive, but she is a terrible actress as Gotham's Knight pointed out.

Executive Action (1973) - Burt Lancaster FTW

Texas Chainsaw 3D

Daddario's body flawless/10

2.5/5

I almost don't want to see Looper after finding out the director/producer/writer/actor of Primer was asked to be an advisor for the time travel elements. Both Back to the Future and Terminator did it perfectly fine. This film was terribly written and just a complete mess that didn't explain much of anything well. A lot of people say you need to watch this multiple times to fully get everything, some even say you might need to take notes to follow the timeline. Um, no. One watch was enough.

Amen. I tried to read the wikipedia summary to clear things up and I even got bored with that.

At least I ****ing understand Looper.

Hey, if not getting the timeline in this movie makes me an idiot, so be it. I think the writer/director is full of **** personally and tried too hard.

Django Unchained--8/10

It was good, and extremely bold, but pending a rewatch of Death Proof as a standalone film (because Grindhouse as a total package was a ton of fun but the individual movies aren't great), Django is easily my least favorite Tarantino movie. QT has always liked excess, and it I think it might have finally gotten the better of him. The movie would have lost nothing by cutting out 20 minutes of the characters traveling. I certainly wasn't offended by Django's violence, but the Kill Bills and Inglourious Basterds really made me think about fictional violence, while Django didn't; its themes didn't run as deep because it exaggerated a subject that was bad to begin with. I do think, though, it's an interesting way to get modern audiences to think about slavery since it's so different from a historical drama. And of course, the actors were great and the writing had some really good parts even though the story's length was a bit bloated.

Lincoln--10/10

I was blown away. I think Lincoln is the first movie I've seen in theaters in a couple years that I immediately thought was a "10" right after I saw it (usually rate more things that way in retrospect or on second viewing). Daniel Day-Lewis was perfect as the president, and everything else lived up to the performance. I loved how understated the movie was; most historical biopics are grandiose in their drama, but Lincoln was much more subtly emotional (and the one or two more grandiose scenes were very hard-hitting because they were unexpected). This mood, along with Lincoln's characterization, make him feel like a realistic, normal person, rather than a larger-than-life presence. Adding to this feeling of genuine humanity, I also loved how the film didn't hold back on how the politicians used, erm, politician tactics to get the 13th Amendment passed.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes--8-8.5/10

They actually made the whole "apes take over the earth" concept seem pretty plausible.

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex *But Were Afraid to Ask--7.5/10

The segments vary in their quality, but they're pretty funny on the whole, especially the last one with Allen as a neurotic sperm. Worth watching if you're a fan of Allen's schtick.

Sunshine Cleaning--7.5-8/10

A nice little story, if not a little simplistic. The characters had solid development, and Amy Adams and Emily Blunt brought a lot of charm to the main two. And it doesn't hurt that they're both beautiful.

The Boz and his glorious mullet go undercover with a biker gang, there are stacks of one liners and absolutely everything blows up like it was made of dynamite. It's so over the top it lands safely on the other side shaking it's ass at other actioners for being timid. 6.5/10

Man I use to love this movie as a kid.
