Man of Steel

Seven years after Director Bryan Singer's well meaning tribute to the Richard Donner/Christopher Reeve era of Superman films
but ultimately lackluster Superman Returns, the last son of Krypton returns in Man of Steel.
Director Zack Snyder, producer Christopher Nolan, and writer David S. Goyer, breathes new life into the 75 year old story.
MOS is not only an entertaining film but a spectacular experience.
Snyder immerses the audience into Krypton like no other previous Superman film has.The power struggle, the technology, the creatures
the ships, all brought out in vivid SFX.

I wasnt blown away by any of the actor's performances in particular, but they all do solid work.Henry Cavill as Clark Kent / Kal-El
has the right look, the right amount of corniness, and bravado to pull off the title roll.
Equally excellent are the actors who portray Superman's biological Kryptonian parents :Russell Crowe as Jor-El and Ayelet Zurer
as Lara Lor-Van and his adoptive parents on Earth Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Jonathan and Martha Kent, their love and
protectiveness of their son shines through in their performances.
Amy Adams as Lois Lane has great chemistry with Cavill, and displays the right amount of curiousity and persistant nature as
the investigative reporter. Michael Shannon as General Zod is effectively intense, and the only match for his intense portrayal is
Antje Traue as the sinister Faora who is a revelation to me.
The rest of the cast Laurence Fishburne as Perry White ,Harry Lennix as Lieutenant General Swanwick, and Christopher Meloni as
Colonel Hardy make the most of their brief time on screen.
The action in MOS is so intense and relentless,i was happy for a brief family or romantic moment .The score by Hans Zimmer is soul stirring and uplifting.

Some of the characters are underdeveloped, and some quick touches could have been added to at least establish who they are. There are a couple of plot holes
/errors.MOS could have also used more humor.

MOS is a very good first step towards a new series of Superman films, and hopefully and ultimately a Justice League film

Scale of 1-10 an 8½

This Is the End

This Is the End is and insane combo of ,raunchy humor, horror and a disaster flick. The actors James Franco,Jonah Hill,Seth Rogen,Jay Baruchel
Danny McBride,Craig Robinson,Emma Watson,Michael Cera and thats only naming just about half of those that show up to spoof themselves and refer to about
a million pop culture staples, are all equally good. The film is doesnt provide non stop laughs and is repetitive at times, but its a fun ride for 75%
of its 106 minutes.

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

decent bio flick.

I really want to see this.

Star Trek Into Darkness.
Not as fun as the first one but still a good sequel.

Man of Steel - 8/10

Took me two viewing to really process it. First viewing was a 7/10 and I was a bit disappointed. I found problems with the first act; things needed to breathe more. That along with the constant handheld camera and zooming got distracting and left me un-engaged for the rest of the film, that is until the shocking conclusion.

But the second time, once you process everything and look at it for what it is, it works. At first I thought Clark got the suit too soon, but my appreciation of them not dragging out of him getting the suit outweighs the complaint. That being said, the entire cast is stellar. What I was so glad to see, EVERYONE did something. Everyone had a purpose in the plot. Even Christopher Meloni, who had a much bigger role than I thought.

Now my biggest criticism now is the lack of humor. There was humor, and it was all good, but the film's somber tone outweighed much levity in the plot, and it could have used some.

Now aside from some on the nose dialogue, the idea of Superman being a first contact story really works and I loved that. Could everything have been better, yeah. But what we have here is solid. Was I blown away? Not really. But they accomplished what they set out to do, and I give the credit to Snyder, Goyer and Nolan for making this work. Mainly Snyder for his direction. The more important thing is now Superman is back and audiences want to see him at the movies again. And let Batman have a goddamn break for once.

The Crying Game 8.5/10
End of Watch 8/10
Side by Side 9/10

Life of Pi

9/10

Visually stunning (and I saw it on DVD) and very well developed thematically. Ang Lee was a good choice for Best Director winner this year.

texas chainsaw 3d

I'm confused... hopefully the ending works....

For Colored Girls, predictable, but it messed my head up.

Leaving Las Vegas (1995)

Excellent film, with some really great dialogue. Elisabeth Shue was exceptionally good, and truly deserved all the nominations and awards she won for her role as Sera. Who, following inviting Ben (Nic Cage) over to her place, is definitely put thru a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
