I kind of felt the same way, but I'm not sure the twist would have been as shocking now as it was in the early 90s, when there weren't as many movies that dealt with [blackout]transgender themes[/blackout]. I was surprised, though, that the twist [blackout]was in the middle of the movie; prior to seeing it, I thought the twist was at the end[/blackout].

Absolutely. Nevertheless it's still a damn surprising thing upon reveal if not known.
I too thought it was at the end.

It's a great
twist because it's like enjoying a great meal and later discovering it had to-fu in it. Do you still love it regardless of what's in it or do you hate it because you found out it's something you thought you wouldn't like?

I Am Legend
Still a very good movie. I watched the theatrical version, and it's pretty good, but the ending is kind of disappointing
The alternate version is easily better
8.5/10

The Hunger Games
The dome they're in reminds me of "The Truman Show", I movie I consider watching again, maybe next weekend.
Whatever doubts I thought I might have on my second viewing of the movie are gone, for now
8.5/10

I have 3 more movies in plan to watch this weekend:
Battle Royale
Lethal Weapon 2
The Mask of Zorro

Yeah. Even if you do know the twist already, it still leads to interesting character and thematic development.

Lethal Weapon 2
10/10

Took my daughter to see EPIC yesterday......very enjoyable movie. Great animation, funny and exciting story.

The Purge - 3/5

Despite the short running time it was ok even if the premise was absurd but my audiences seemed to like it since they cheered everytime a [blackout]bad guy got shot.[/blackout]

I watched eight Star Trek films since the release of Star Trek into Darkness. I have never seen most them until now.

Star Trek : The Motion Picture - This is known as the boring Star Trek , but I actually liked it. They tried to represent sci-fi of the era and the ship does look impressive for what effects they had at the time. I had some issues with the story and probably won't revisit this film very often. However I thought the twist was decent. Not off to a great start , but enjoyable nonetheless. 7/10

Wrath of Khan - The sequel is more exciting and worth of it's iconic status. The films is just really enjoyable and set a new standard for the series. 9.5/10

Search for Spock - Spock is just too good of a character to kill off. Some say this is a lesser sequel. I enjoyed it just as much if not more than Wrath of Khan. It's fun to see Christopher Llyod playing the villain. I think he was having a good time with it. It's a shame Kirk's son got killed off so early. He wasn't that memorable of a character and perhaps could of used more screentime , but his demise is important to the progression of the series. I thought the last scene in the film is one of the best in the series. 9/10

The Voyage Home- It seems like they just wanted to have a fun light hearted adventure after the last couple films. This film has universal appeal. It's a good formula for comedy and they took advantage of it.
There is a "save the whales" message , but it never feels forced or overtakes the story. I'm not really sure I understood the "big bad's" motivations though. 9/10

The Final Frontier-This isn't a great film and most of the humor falls flat. I did like the villain's motivation and trying to manipulate the minds of Spock , Kirk , and Bones. There are some great character moments for the main trio. Also the "god" scene is very amusing , albeit weird. This is easily the weakest of the original Star Trek cast films , but I don't hate it like some probably do. 6.5/10

The Undiscovered Country- They really bounced back with this film. It's a great sendoff for the original crew. It's nice to see the Klingons handled better and Christopher Plummer is another fun villain. Sulu finally gets a promotion and it's fitting the director of Wrath of Khan returned to halp make another great Star Trek. 9/10

Generations- This seems like a missed opportunity. I think Red Letter Media wasn't entirely accurate when they bashed the film , but I do agree bringing Kirk into the fray just to throw punches was somewhat disappointing. The Data emotion chip subplot annoyed some fans , but I thought it was amusing. It's an entertaining film , but falls short of expectations. 7/10

First Contact- This is a huge improvement. The Borg are interesting villains and the film offer plenty of suspense aboard the enterprise. Also some of the best acting in the series. 9/10

The Mask of Zorro

Favorite Zorro film, favorite Antonio Banderas film of mine
10/10

Earth vs. The Flying Saucers

Fun movie. Not to mention Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion animated effects being nothing short of outstanding.

I was lead to believe that this was a significant improvement on the first one, but eh... I don't know. Like the first one, it's mostly tripe held together by an interesting structure and punctuated by a small handful great moments. Also, the monster effects are really, really bad. So bad not even the copious amounts of faux-video distortion can hide them.

I guess I'll score each section separately.

Tape 49 - The glue that holds the film together. Not as good as in the first movie, and it's made worse by a really dumb ending. 1/5

Phase 1 Clinical Trial - Everyone seems to be ****ting on this one. While it's definitely not the best of the bunch, it's also not the worst. The jump scares got me a couple times. 2/5

A Ride in the Park - Awesome concept, I feel like they didn't do enough with it though. 2/5

Safe Haven - Easily the best one. It could (and should) have been it's own full length movie. The ending was laughable though. 4/5

Slumber Party Alien Abduction - Pretty self explanatory. This is the one that seemed to be getting the most early buzz, but I really didn't like it at all. Definitely the worst for me. 1/5
