How to train your dragon 2

Two awesome sequels in the same weekend. How often does that happen?

22 Jump Street

Talk about one of the best sequels, this definitely deserves that title. Movie wizards Lord & Miller can't be stopped. They know how to take something impossible and not only make it work but exceed it. I loved a lot of the jokes, I loved how they advanced the Tatum/Hill bromance, and loved that Ice Cube gets a scene that steals the movie. The most clever thing they've done was the meta jokes especially in the end credits, easily the best end credits to any movie period. Also I hope Amber Stevens gets bigger roles because got dayum. :hrt:

JLA Adventures: Trapped in Time

It's the old retro JLA savin the day. It feels like a extended episode of the Super Friends or the The Super Powers Team show. And it's not just for nostalgia sake, it was really well made (well except for the obvious time travel plot holes that you'd expect), even if it was pretty short. It's a damn shame that this DTV that's directed towards kids trumps Justice League: War by miles. It tells you how much DC is crapping on their characters with the new 52.

I wanted to watch trapped in time but I hadn't heard any critical reception from here or anywhere else so I assumed it was mediocre. I'll have to see it now, thanks for that!

Yeah it's worth watching especially if you enjoyed the old 80s JLA shows/comics. It helps get rid of the taste that was JL: War. lol

Fortunately, I skipped JL:War. Seeing one 4:00 video of Superman acting like a brash jerk was enough to turn me off completely.

If it hadn't been for Justice League: War, ironically, I May not have picked up "Trapped in Time", if only to see how it measured up against the overblown, foul mouthed, mean spirited "popcorn film" that WB kept touting WAR as. Even though I've never particularly liked Super-Friends I found the lighter and softer "Trapped in Time" much more entertaining than the bombastic "War" which reveled presenting half its cast as unlikable a--holes. The best "popcorn films" typically feature main characters who are actually sympathetic on some level, something that was missing in War. We may not get to spend much time the Justice League in "Trapped in Time" but at least they don't come off like spoiled jerks.

I've never seen Justice League: War, but for curiosity's sake, what's so horrible about it? And don't be a afraid to divulge details.

You got a week?

I made a blog post about a single scene here here. I could go on and on.

^ Yup

To those who thought Superman's portrayal in MOS was off base, I say be glad we didn't get a replicate of the atrocity in War.

jla adventures trapped in time
something occurred to me when I watched this DVD since the villians of the piece WERE the legion of doom wouldn't the three episodes of challenge of the super friends that involved time travel been better choices for the bonus episodes:?

Justice League: War was so far out of the norm for me I was genuinely shocked at how far it deviated from the older (better) animated movies.

It's awesome. If you like Japanese period pieces with a giant monster laying waste, check it out.

I decided to watch this tonight expecting a fun, hilarious thrill ride and for most of the movie it delivered that in spades. The 3rd act took me by surprise in a very good way. It could have been a cheesy and needless addition, but Lord and Miller made it work - and I can appreciate the movie from a whole other perspective because of it.

Godzilla Tokyo: SOS (2003)

I thought Justice League: Doom was kind of weak, myself, though still better than WAR. The DOOM fight scenes alone felt stiff and lethargic and looked lifeless when compared to fights from previous DVDs and even the DCAU itself. The Superman Vs. Metallo fight at the end, for example, is nowhere near as powerful or as devastating as their fight in "Public Enemies" or even their clashes in the 90s solo series, despite being made with newer, cleaner, crisper animation. Batman Vs. Bane ended the way it always ends, with Bats yanking the venom tube out of Bane's head. The opening Justice League Vs. Royal Flush Gang fight looks and feels incredibly bland when compared to the earlier match up between them seen in the 2 part "Wild Cards" ep from the 2nd season of Justice League, despite that fight being made ten years earlier. The only fight scene that really stood out was Wonder Woman Vs. Cheetah.

This ties into another problem I had with the DOOM feature - it had too much of a "been there, done that" kind of feeling, with everyone just going through the paces, not making that much effort, etc. Superman shot by Metallo with a Kryptonite bullet and then falls from a great height? Saw it in "Public Enemies". Batman Vs. Bane? Saw it twice in the DCAU. I know that's a terrible thing to say since it was the last thing Dwayne McDuffie worked on before he passed away, but there was just something really lackluster in the execution, as if the parties involved felt obligated to do the story without really wanting to do it. As much as I enjoy hearing the old voice actors come back it was pretty obvious they were all just phoning it in.

Still, 'Doom' was leaps and bounds better than 'War'.

Destruction or not (Because I'm sure a militant homicidal maniac would love to move away from away from a populated area and engage in Queensbury Rules gentlemanly fisticuffs on the moon) Superman in MOS was absolutely Superman, he spent his whole life looking for people to save.

This disgrace was actively causing destruction, and toying with GL and Batman like a psychopath. Punching them into buildings and crowded areas!!!! That's Darkseid.
