Don’t Torture a Duckling (1972)

Don%27tTortureaDuckling.jpg

Pretty solid giallo with some genuinely disturbing moments and probably Fulci's earliest use of gore although it's more of a mystery thriller than a straight forward horror movie. In a rural Italian town a spree of child murders causes panic as the superstitious village is thrown into the spotlight. As the investigation goes on the mistrustful locals act out in violence brutally murdering an innocent woman who was suspected of the crimes. I think viewers might actually be surprised by the end reveal of the actual killer and their motives which also explores some interesting themes.

Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

I watched this for the first time on Disney XD earlier today. I thought it was fun despite some of the humor not being to my taste and the artwork throughout is incredibly well done. I liked seeing the use of characters from various video games; Q*bert, Street Fighter, Sonic the Hedgehog, etc.

DAREDEVIL (Director's Cut)
QUALITY = 6/10
JOY = 9/10

I know what you're thinking; "why choose these dizzying shots?", the answer is simple; "What's the point of doing that?". At least we don't have more than two shots with the camera twist.
The action is cool, story and most things are between average and half-decent.
I'm glad I watched this again, because I still love it, the villains are fun to watch, the hero is... a stalker who I like most of the time, and his business partner is a fun component that does not feel wasted.
A significant improvement to the ridiculous garbage that I saw in theater and regretted on first view, too bad it's not good enough to be great.
At least the extended edition did not make an already bad movie even worse.

PUNISHER: WAR ZONE
QUALITY = 4/10
JOY = 8/10

The second half improves the movie, but there is still plenty of questionable dialogue, awkward moments, and other silly stuff.
How did Billy Russo survive all that broken glass? Got out of FBI custody? didn't lose anything in the glass breaker aside from the integrity of his face? He should be dead, or at least placed in high class prison and treated there.
His brother makes you wonder how his muscles did not suffer atrophy after all that time being tied down, and where did all the energy he had as soon as he was unchained from his bed come from when his keeper ate all his food.

Why do I do this? I just feel like doing it, I don't need to have a logical reason to be in the mood to watch a movie or a TV show, all I know is I like what I watched and most of what I will watch. I'll definitely enjoy the Punisher season 1.

Next stop: DD season 2.

Elektra the movie can be forgotten and ignored, no one will bat an eye. :D

The Shape of Water

Loved it. This is Guillermo del Toro's ode to old Hollywood in more ways than one. It's a damn shame he turned down the Universal Monster franchise because The Shape of Water is very much the del Toro's version of Creature from the Black Lagoon or Beauty and the Beast. With the incredible production design and cinematography, it also feels like part Amélie and part Edward Scissorhands. Performance wise everyone knocked it out the park as expected. Sally Hawkins delivers her best performance to date and Michael Shannon is peak Michael Shannon. I don't see this as a negative, but since the movie is a throwback to old Hollywood, they don't pull any surprises and it becomes kinda predictable. That being said, it's one of the best movies this year and I can't wait to see it again.
10/10

FINALLY watched Shakespeare in Love last night. It's only ok. That it won 7 Oscars is a testament to Harvey's bullying. Not only is it not better than Saving Private Ryan, or are the performances the best of the year, but I didn't think it was as good as either Ever After or A Knight's Tale.

Beyond Skyline (2017)
Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
Svingerid / Swingers (2017)

Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four - 5.5/10

As a comic and movie fan, this was worth watching, but I can't really say this would hold much interest to many else; as a film on its own, it's not very compelling or well put together.
