Gerald's Game

Mike Flanagan continues to be one of the best horror directors working today and this is no exception. While this movie is about survival, in many ways it's more about living through trauma. Carla Gugino probably gave one of her best performance in this and so did Bruce Greenwood. There's some unexpected territory that this movie goes to and it's both refreshing and extremely uncomfortable. There's a scene that's incredibly gory even by gorefest standards yet doesn't revel in it, which was appreciated. I do have to say, it's a bit slow at points and I would have made it a little shorter. Also the end of this movie is kinda disappointing only because they introduce a plot element that I was so excited for, and I wish that could have been it's own movie. Overall, it's another fine horror movie that came out this year.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

I've been meaning to check this out for years and it's every bit of what that tag line says. It's disturbing, grimy, and sadistic but it's all done in a indie level mentality, which is rare for a movie that came out in the mid 80s. Michael Rooker gives his best performance and it's fascinating to see where his mind is at during certain scenes. Also what thought it was great was the grimy look and feel of the movie. Overall, it deserves every bit of praise it got.

Spielberg

It's a great introspective look at Speilberg's works throughout the years and his influences. Also I thought it was great to know Spielberg caught the directing/movie bug after watching Lawrence of Arabia multiple times. Overall, it's a solid documentary.

I was going to watch half of this but ended up watching the full 2 and a half hours, very interesting and intriguing !!!

The Devil's Backbone.

Was let down by how heavy the drama was versus the ghost story. Still decent, but not what I was expecting.

Professor Marston and the Wonder Women

Through a few Comic Book documentaries,i learned a little about William Moulton Marston, psychologist, inventor of an early prototype of the lie detector, self-help author, and comic book writer who created the character Wonder Woman
This film definitely fleshed him and the women in his life wife Elizabeth and their mutual lover Olive out.
Rebecca Hall as Elizabeth Holloway Marston who wanted to be treated as an equal professionally and in life and Bella Heathcote as Olive Byrne who wanted to be more than what people assumed about her
The film boldy explores their polyamorous relationship, and all of the turmoil that it brought with it.This all works because of the genuine chemistry between the three leads including Luke Evans as William Moulton Marston
I liked how the trio pushed everything to the limit in their lives because they genuinely loved each other and truly wanted to show people how to be their authentic selves, this also came out in Marstons Wonder Woman comics which got unwanted attention from the head of the Child Study Association of America
Rebecca Hall is the stand out and portrays the frustrations and realistic thinking of Elizabeth well.

My only problem with the movie was a sitcom/romantic comedy moment near the end of the movie that felt totally out of place
Other than that this is one of the better films to hit theatres in October

The Foreigner

I entered this film with bias admiration because i love movies like this !!
A character is underestimated, someone says :Hey send 4 men to take care of the problem !!
What he/she got away? Send 10 people to take care of them !!What they got away again? Send 100 people..and so on
In The Foreigner Jackie Chan is Ngoc Minh Quan, London restaurateur, who looks for revenge after his daughter is killed in a bombing
He soon focuses on Liam Hennessy(Pierce Brosnan) a former IRA member turned British government official
who's past may have ties to the aforementioned bombing...and the fun begins!!!

Chan is great in the film showing a lot more range than i have ever seen from him.He displays all the right amounts of sorrow, grief and anger of a man seeking vengeance
Pierce Brosnan nearly steals the movie as he chews up the scenery as Quan relentlessly one ups him,and displaying his own frustrations as those with ties to his position may be betraying him.
The action sequences are brisk and flawless as Chan at 63 still does some of his own stunts
The film becomes more of a political thriller which made the plot a bit uneven at times and I did see a shady turn coming from miles away.

I had a great time with this movie,it's one of those action films i know i will watch over and over again, anytime it pops up on my radar.

MARSHALL

Director Reginald Hudlin decided to focus on the late great Thurgood Marshalls(Chadwick Boseman), the first African-American to hold a seat on the Supreme Court lesser known cases when he was a lawyer for the NAACP.
The case:a wealthy, Greenwich, Connecticut socialite who accused her black chauffeur and butler, Joseph Spell (Sterling K. Brown), of raping her and then driving to a bridge and attempting murder by throwing her off it

The film has fine performances from the entire cast it was nice to see Josh Gad as Samuel Friedman a civil-case attorney with no experience in criminal law a role in which he is not the wacky, obnoxious, heavy set guy.He and Boseman have great chemistry together
The story is strong enough but when you give a film a title such as MARSHALL i expect to see more of the cases the man took on that actually made huge civil rights changes in America.
As court room dramas go it held my attention for the most part and only meanders around the edges.
At times it felt like i was watching something made for TV
I guess i just wanted more than a summary of the man's life.

THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US

Oh how those delayed and cancelled flights get people to not make the greatest of decisions !!
Ben (Idris Elba) and Alex (Kate Winslet) strangers who have pressing engagements so they charter one of those small 4 seater planes to reach their destinations.Unforseen occurences befall them and they end up bruised, broken and stranded on a mountain trying to survive.
Aside from some thrilling moments in the first half and one legit jump moment near the end the movie is just kind of...there.Nothing really spectacular, and when that happens i start to pick a movie apart.
Elba and Winslet have enough chemistry and charm to help the movie get from point A to B but with multiple endings and a final shot that i kind of chuckled at the best thing i can say is to rent this on a slow Saturday night.

Deep Rising - 5/10

I had no idea this movie existed but it was exactly what I expected from a Stephen Sommers film in 1998. Bad CGI included.

This came out a year and a bit before The Mummy but it looks like they were experimenting with some vfx here beforehand.

Assault on Paradise (1977)
Happy Death Day (2017)

Dark Angel, aka I come in peace, 1990.
Saw it in theater back in the day.

The Lego Batman Batman - Fun, but it couldn't keep it up the "sugar rush" forever, kinda slow at point unfortunately, but I enjoyed it overall. 7.5 / 10

Exactly how I felt about it too. As you say, enjoyable overall.

Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen (1981)

Wonder Woman

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Both of which I liked upon my first watches but watching them again at home, grew to have a better appreciation for.
