I liked this better than American Sniper but not by much. Based on the trailers they want to think the movie is all about Miles Teller suffering PTSD, but Beulah Koale shares the movie with him. Funny thing is that they really don't show you the war as much and it mostly takes place back at home. Performance wise I guess it was okay, there's nothing really new that we haven't seen already. Although what seems to be a strange left turn, Amy Schumer is in this movie as a grieving widow. For me this feels more of a tv movie and it was just going through the motions.

Hostiles

Another great film by Scott Cooper. Kinda like his previous film, Out of the Furnace, it's a western that is solely dependent on performances. Christian Bale and Rosamund Pike deliver some of their best acting chops here. As for plot, it's pretty straight forward. As it goes along you kinda know what to expect. It's pretty brutal and they don't take their time with it. The opening act alone is pretty hard to watch and it sets the tone real quick. My only complaint is they don't really give Wes Studi (who still gave a really damn good performance) or the family he's with that much screen time. For a movie that is dealing with complex characters, you wanted more speaking moments from the native Americans. Overall though, I really loved this, it's both haunting and beautiful to look at.

Wonder Wheel

I really enjoyed it. It's melodrama that takes place in Coney Island if they were done like in the 40s and 50s. I thought Most of the cast did a pretty good job especially Kate Winslet who has never been better. The movie is a dramatic love affair that might be silly, but here it works. What I really enjoyed about this was the cinematography and lighting, it was almost like another character that helps the movie. I know because it's by Woody Allen this movie isn't getting a good rep, but watching this just as a movie, I thought it was really well done.

I hadn't watched either of these movies in forever. I forgot almost the entirety of Returns so that was really great to watch all the way through again, brought back all kinds of childhood memories.

Rewatched both of those (plus Batman Forever) myself in the last few weeks. BR is still my #2 Batman movie after The Dark Knight.

Yeah I saw the other day that all the Batman movies up to Begins were on Netflix so I wanted to go through all of them again since it's been a long time. Watching Batman Forever tonight.
