Wrong Turn 6.5/10
wrong_turn_event_main.jpg

I saw the advertisement for Wrong Turn 5 and thought maybe it was time I checked this franchise out. I had always assumed it was another Texas Chainsaw Massacre rip off but it actually steals from The Hills Have Eyes. It starts out like a generic slasher but the victims seem far more capable by using diversion tactics and fighting back. It was enjoyable but nothing great. There's only one memorable death scene. It was one of the best beheadings I've seen.

Frankenweenie 3D 9/10

It was really good. It pays homage to all the monster films but also remains true to the live action short. There wasn't too many laugh out loud moments but I like it's subtle sense of humor. Also the side characters were all interesting. Especially the science teacher voiced by Martin Landau, who also had a great design. This has been a good year for stop motion ( Frankenweenie , Paranorman , and The Pirates).

Sinister

A very well made character driven horror movie that doesn't disappoint you. It's not for those that want to see a jump scare every 5 minutes. Ethan Hawk did a great job as the lead as well as Carlyle for the story he wrote with the director, I was really interested in it. The movie does have a interesting turn but it's something you kinda see half way in (Probably from the very begining like I did).

Paranormal Activity 4

Well, I wasn't expecting anything at all and yet I was still kinda disappointing. There was a lot of playing by the numbers with the first 3 films, but their new scare tactic with the Kinetic was just ok. With the story, I was let down that they didn't answer a lot of the questions but you can see this to play a bigger part with the next film. The end credits is what really scared me, just on the fact it's something completely new and different. Which is kinda sad that your end credits was more frightening than the entire movie.

Paranormal Activity 4 - 7.5/10

Chernobyl Diaries - 6.5/10

The Amazing Spider-Man

Not as great as I remembered

Leprechaun
Even with all it’s fiddly-diddly faults, Leprechaun provides enough hilarity if your intoxicated. Scenes like the Leprechaun killing a man with pogo stick will have you pleasantly entertained. Also, Davis looked like he was having a blast in the role, with an impressive make-up and costume job to boot. I don’t think I could watch this movie again without an audience, so I guess that’s how you should view it. Some friends and a few cold ones by your side.

Frankenstein
Frankenstein has inspired so many media outlets, it’s impossible to ignore this classic – sure it switches gears half-way through and some stuff is questionable in terms of character choices, but I’d give this one a watch, it short and you’ll be captivated with the stuff this flick tried to get away with in the 30′s.

The Fog(1980)
The Fog slightly drags in the middle for a short period of time, but that doesn’t stop this classic ghost story from giving you the hibbie jibbies. I suggest a hot beverage, a blanket with the lights turned down for an entertaining experience.

Ruby Sparks
Paul Dano continues to impress me at every corner and he continues to impress in Ruby Sparks. While the trailer tells a fantasy tale, in which lot of guys want in life - their perfect girl, but Ruby Sparks is a clever and a much more complex story with an interesting message.

Tourist Trap
Unless your apprehensive when it comes to mannequins, Tourist Trap is without a doubt an entertaining viewing. It does haves it’s hiccups along the way, but it moves at a nice pace over them with a mystery that will keep you tuned. Connors acting is larger than the film itself, every scene he appears in, is engaging. The art direction and cinematography is a delightful marriage for the short shoot and I’m guessing, low budget. Tourist Trap…get trapped now!

Total-Recall1.jpg

7/10

Oh, Len Wiseman. How you break my heart. It's not that this movie is bad, it's actually very good in a lot of respects; I loved the action, the production design is superb, the effects are amazing, even the performances are solid. If this was the only movie with the title "Total Recall", it would probably be a masterpiece. But the story and all its themes were pretty well explored in the Ah-nold version, and this new film can't overcome how unnecessary it is, no matter how hard it tries. The only way one can truly love the remake is if you hate the original, and if you hate the original, then you have no soul. :csad:
