I think some of these debates are silly anyway. I think that the swinging in TASM looks "superior" in some ways, but it never stood out and made me say "WOW!" It looks better because it should look better than a movie that came out 10 years prior. But Raimi really made the most out of what he had at the time and those swinging scenes really stand out to me.
Well at least that explains it.
The TASM swinging looks better because well, it's logical to assume after 10 years that'll happen. It's good to see you admit that
Would I be right in saying that the context of the swinging affects what some of you like better?
For example, in spider-man 1 his final swing comes after a really beautiful monologue and conclusion. It has that "bam" feeling when it's backed by an awesome movie and soundtrack.
Spiderman 2 had so many highs and the stakes were so high that again, the context of the swings gave it more gravitas. The "he's back" scene is my best example here, it's basically the finale of the "spiderman no more" arc and segues straight into the famous train scene (I THINK, I need a rewatch). Again, the gravitas of both those scenes adds an "epic" context to those swings. Add elfmans score and you've sort of got a really nice happy joy feeling.
Spiderman 3 I dunno, it didn't have that gravitas to me and others but I think coming off Spiderman 1+2 with a really nice score, that whilst not fully Elfmans, still adds to the scene. To be honest I can't really remember an iconic scene in SM3 so I'm not sure about my theory here, but again, Spiderman 3 had some really swell effects, so maybe it's that?
The amazing Spiderman had some amazing looking swinging scenes but the only scene I can think of with that emotional gravitas is the "crane scene", it's really not up there with the others though is it? To compare the final swing of SM1 to TASM1, Tobey's last line is "gift curse, responsibility, I'm Spiderman" whilst Andrews is "I'm literally breaking a promise I made to a dead man five minutes later with a sorta risky line that could break our already broken relationship" sooo, yeah, whilst TASM's final swing looks MUCH MUCH better, he basically just spat in the face of poor old cap Stacey in the last scene and without your epic score, it might not have that oomph that comes from the context of the entire film that you get with SM1
The amazing Spiderman 2 had wonderful scenes, but arguably the best swinging scene comes near the start of the movie when he's chasing and quipping at a Russian guy in a car whilst on the phone to Gwen and seeing ghost "I spat in your face" dad. The other ones the electro swing near the end, and whilst it's an amazing looking scene, people were put off by electro by then. With that scene where he chases green goblin again the visuals are great but some might be upset that the comic book origins of about 3-4 significant characters are being sorts killed in one scene. And let's face it, dub step ain't no Elfman. So whilst the actual scenes look amazing when people see them they're not in a "blow me away" mood due to the whole, ehhhhhhh, feel of the films
I'm not sure how much I actually agree with what I'm saying but it's what I'm assuming a lot of the people who voted SM1-3 are thinking?
If it's based purely of visuals and cgi than I really can't explain it in my own head
You've all got the right to think whatever you want but I'm wondering if I'm getting any closer to anyone's thought process?
