I LOL'd because your post initially said you weren't really very big on BEAR and I remembered that you are gay so that was probably a big Freudian slip. Haha! :D

jag

dammit.. u caught the typo... and no..... bears scare me.. im just half asleep and cant spell well :( ..................................proceed laughing

You explained it a lot more politely than I would have :o

People hardly seem to want to hear me out on anything anyways, so I have to keep composure when replying.

ill give you that... sadly though if you ever live in LA you see several of those assumptions turn true. Which makes me wonder... do we pay attention more to the stereotypes when they happen to that specific nationality and less on those who don't fit that stereotype when they become guilty of it?

Stereotypes sometimes do manifest themselves because of the self-fulfilling prophecy.
When media representations and peer interactions keep reminding you how to be your whole life, sometimes you get mixed up along the way and incorporate those notions into your budding identity.
In grade school something struck me, there was a little black kid called Randy who didn't fight the stereotypes imposed on him. While the other black kids were encouraged to lean in a certain direction, and internalized it as the right way to be, Randy was a point dexter.
The white kids felt he was free game to pick on as he didn't conform to their primitive assumptions of what a black kid should act like, and he received pressure from the black kids as well because there was a feeling he was rejecting a part of his identity.

Might seem like I'm just reaffirming your thought process, but what I'm pointing out is that so soon as these black kids weren't involving themselves in sports, weren't listening to the "right" music, and weren't conforming to expected behaviours, they were ostracized on both sides.

Stereotypes don't result from truths, they result from assumptions. Big difference. Huge. Massive.

jag

And when one of these assumptions is agreed upon, examples that seem to confirm the bias are overrepresented in the media.

Yeah, why are people harping on "White Privilege" when "Huge Knockers Privilege" trumps all of it?

Is that really privilege though?
I'm pretty sure that women would rather advance through merit in an equal society rather they objectify themselves for advancement.
The only reason tactics like that work is because we live in a sexist society.
So anytime a good looking women makes it anywhere in life, we can take comfort that she got that far, not because she's as smart as us, but because she's some sort of ****.

Is that really privilege though?
Lighten up, dudezilla. Joke.

I'm pretty sure that women would rather advance through merit in an equal society rather they objectify themselves for advancement.
This is true. When a cop pulls over a smoking-hot chick for speeding, sees her, and gives her a warning, she will usually get pissed and say, "Where's my TICKET?! Damn it! :cmad:". Yes.

The only reason tactics like that work is because we live in a sexist society.

guh, WhA?

Sure it's a privilege. Whether you'd rather be recognized for your talent or whatever doesn't really matter as much as what you'll accept. A good looking person whether a woman or man might @itch about their looks being what others focus on, but that's not gonna stop them from using it to their advantage. If you're freaky tall and the NBA offers you millions not for your hard work but because you can slam the ball without your feet leaving the ground I've never heard someone say, "no thanks, I'd rather just be recognized for my brains". And that goes with any physical gift. Really the physical beauty as an advantage gets an unfair rap. If you're a naturally gifted athlete you're looked down on for not using it, same thing with a very intelligent person. If you've got an easy door, you use it. Genetics just favor different people in different ways, but it's only with beauty that people get called out for not working for something.

I mean you're a smart and obviously educated guy. I'm sure a lot of that came from you working to become better, but I highly doubt you started off a ****** and worked up. You probably (and correct me if I'm wrong) were always pretty smart and you used that advantage to get a leg up in life. So who are you to judge or critize someone else for using their gifts?

In conclusion, there's nothing wrong with big beautiful boobs or the women that wear them proudly. I don't think you're all ****s, I just hope so.

Hold on. How is that different than white privilege? If white people get through life easier because of racism, why is it not a privilege for a hot chick to get through life easier because of sexism?

Lighten up, dudezilla. Joke.

I'm a fun guy, really. Just within a thread concerning a serious subject, I'm not as lighthearted.

This is true. When a cop pulls over a smoking-hot chick for speeding, sees her, and gives her a warning, she will usually get pissed and say, "Where's my TICKET?! Damn it! :cmad:". Yes.

Of course the bombshells use it to their advantage, but most women aren't that hot. Most people are plain. Except in Montreal. :woot:

Not denying the power of boobies, I'm just calling the behaviour into question. Like some people will only give black people credit on their sports achievements, singing abilities, and big junks, a lot of men only recognize women if she's a sexual object.

And just like black men might see sports and music as the only legitimate way of getting out of a bad circumstance, women might see exploiting their sexuality as a key factor in upward mobility.
In turn reinforcing stereotypes.

guh, WhA?

I'm thinking I was clearer above.

You can't equate a physical gift that a single person has to a race. The physical gift does in fact make you better than others in one form or another, that's why it's a gift. And I'd be much more apt to agree with any of this logic if it wasn't for the fact that women who become national leaders in this day and age are generally butt ugly but very smart. If pam anderson picks up a presidential nod, I take everything back.

6. I can turn on the television or open to the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely represented.

Black people have a section of the paper like that. It's called the police breifs :o .

I kid. Seriously, this lady sounds like a racist. But, she's a "good" racist that uses her racism to reflect the evil of racism. That list is bull**** and each point could be said about blacks as well.

Is there racism in America? Yes. Do white people go through life getting everything handed to them because they are not black? No.

I hope you where just joking, because that is utter bull****.

See, black too have some privilege. Anytime something doesn't go their way, they have the privilege of blaming their skin color.

I agree. I see and hear white generlizations all the time. And I hear it publically as well. I was called white boy plenty of times in high school. It wouldn't fly the other way around.

Again, I hope that was sarcasim. I've never been giving anything because I'm white.

Racism is important, but the idea of white privilege is absurd. Just another way to demonize white people.

So, if you don't believe that you have some sort of special privilege because of your skin color, you are in denial? That sounds pretty racist.

:) excellent post.

Never had anything handed to me just for being white sorry this whole thread is so much reverse racism and BS its not even funny.

I'm just calling into question the fact that some of these benefits are arbitrary, and that sometimes people are forced down one avenue of success. The end results of being gifted one way or another isn't all that bad.
But if your the guy who can't shoot hoops, or can't sing, but thats the direction you pushed toward because it was the excepted norm, you might be **** out of luck.
If your the ugly person who is smart but doesn't get as many opportunities as the average intelligence hottie, things are out of wack.
I'm looking at things with a lot of idealism is all.

You probably (and correct me if I'm wrong) were always pretty smart and you used that advantage to get a leg up in life. So who are you to judge or critize someone else for using their gifts?

I was always basically bright, and I had the advantage of having parents push me at times when I was lacking vision.
Education is there, and even people who aren't very smart can make it, although they often have to work much harder to get the same results.
I've been moving up the system, but where I end up depends on me.
Actually, you've done a good job of disarming me and leaving me without a good answer for that one.

In conclusion, there's nothing wrong with big beautiful boobs or the women that wear them proudly. I don't think you're all ****s, I just hope so.

They are pretty close, white privilege is more all encompassing of whites. Booby privilege or what have you is limited to those men, the dominant gender in the society, deem to be sexual worthy.

So one is, so long as your white your right. The other is just based on looks.

There isn't that much difference, both give advantage without it necessarily being deserved.

At that point I should hope so, but I heard the amount of work and sacrifice they must make to get to that point is disproportionate to that of men who make it to that station in life.
And if they flub up, it is often attributed to their gender.

:) excellent post.

Reverse racism, such a ******ed term which implies that racism should be directed at anyone but whites in normal circumstances.

So you mean to tell me that people get better lives simply for having natural gifts whether they deserve them or not? This is shocking! Your statement only holds fair comparison if the smart person doesn't use their brains to do things and advance in ways the pretty person cannot. So if they get the deeper meanings in literature, art, music, etc that the pretty person cannot then they are unfairly profitting? No, that's just life, you play to your strengths.

I was always basically bright, and I had the advantage of having parents push me at times when I was lacking vision.

Thanks, but I wasn't trying to be a prick or anything (I do that naturally) just stating that "pretty" people when you think about it are unfairly picked on for using their natural advantages. Think of it in this way, if someone with natural looks "works" through physical effort and spends money to enhance that gift and spends the same time and money you would on your mind, isn't it comparable at least as far as what "rewards" they should recieve? Or is one gift more noble and better than another? Brad Pitt gets to bang Angelina Jolie but Steven Hawking has a grasp on the mysteries of the universe none of us will ever comprehend. It isn't really fair either has advantages the other will never possess but that's life.

They are pretty close, white privilege is more all encompassing of whites. Booby privilege or what have you is limited to those men, the dominant gender in the society, deem to be sexual worthy.

I can't agree here. If this white privilege is there, it can only be in an area dominated by whites with that mind set, in china I doubt being it would help at all. But being smart, or good looking or athletic helps you anywhere in the world regardless.

Edit: And you completely leave out lesbians with that statement.

To answer the topic's question, ofcourse there is such a thing. But you know what? money talks louder than race in the U.S.A. so things kinda even themselves out...sometimes. Like O.J and Robert Blake can get away with murder because they are rich celebreties. *sings* Ebony and ivory *sings*

There is still racism, a black person will be passed up for a job just because of their skincolor, same thing with housing. Alot of white folk wont understand this because they are well not black. Does that mean that they are racist? Hell no! it just means that that white and black people have had far different experiences in america. Believe me, I'm black so I know that alot of the black folk I've ran into don't wont to take responsiblity for anything and blame racism for everything but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist at all. It's just surpremely nieve to believe that it doesn't but I understand why alot of white people don't understand this.

It should be noted that black people should stop pretending that it is a bad as it was in the 30's, we have a black guy running for president and he actually has a real shot at being able to run for president...and win. If it were that bad, Obama wouldn't have won one state. Alot of white people seem to like him enough to vote for him.

P.S

OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!

Got it you do not like a term so it must be ******ed.
Yeh NO you start a thread with obvious racist intentions trying to portray white people as all privileged somehow and when refuted you just throw out your opinion as fact somehow or use some weak links.

/thread fail unless it really has been changed to boobies :)

Actually Bubonic had a very good point. Racism is racism, no matter what race it's directed to. The term reverse-racism implies some very racist notions and doesn't really make any sense if you were to look up racism in the dictionary.

TOtally freaking true.

You know, if a White guy stabs me with a knife, he could get 6 months in jail.
If he stabs a BLACK guy with a knife, he could go to prison for 50 years.

That's lunacy with a capital LOON.

I keep forgetting what it even freakin' means
I know, I was trying to remember if uplighting someone is a good thing, or a bad thing.

I think.....the B.E.T. was talking about drugs and Rap music and fatty foods, INSTEAD of "uplighting" the young, African American Youth.

I think we need to uplight the world.
I'm too lazy to check though.

I uplighted some pictures of my mohawk onto Myspace yesterday

Now, I'm downlighting porn :o
