I started this job, working 16 hours a week.
My boss was a gay, Black man.
His boss was a Black lady.

Gay, Black guy is gone, I took over.
Black lady is still my boss.

She makes 50 times what I make.
The gay, Black man made more than I make now, even though I have the same amount of experience AND, it's empirical fact that I do a better job than he did.

She and I do the hiring.
We both interview, I offer my thoughts, but she has the final say.
If we have a White applicant, and a Black applicant, she will A.L.W.A.Y.S. hire the Black one, even if the White one has a ton of experience, and the Black one has none.

ALWAYS

Since I'm "security", I have to deal with homeless people all of the time.
Here, there are way more homeless White people than Black people.
Both my Mom and my Dad worked...HARD, but we were still poor.
I grew up around poor White people.
Top Ramen city, man.

Please, tell me where I'm supposed to report to pick up all of these White privileges, please.
Thx.

I'm like that. :csad:

When I'm hiring, I hire the hot less experienced women and not the qualified people. :o

That's just stupid, the really hot ones are always stuck up and a pain in the ass. You should really try for the moderately hot ones with self esteem issues. That's freaking gold right there.

cultural changes take lots of time. there's really nothing to do about it but *****.

It depends on the context. Certain employers will have differing views of people, be they based on skin color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, height, weight, whatever...You kinda have to take things on a case-by-case basis.

Once, a neighbor of mine took me to court, saying I had threatened her and she as afraid I was going to beat her up. VERY far from the truth, but I won't even bore you guys with the details. Long story short, b**** was CRAZY.

So, we go to court, and it's my black neighbor making things up about me to a black Atlanta judge. He didn't even allow me to present my side, and I had 3 witnesses (1 white guy, 1 [gay] black guy and an Asian girl) who were with me at the time of my supposed threatening behavior. I was not allowed to have any of these 3 people speak, nor was I asked for my version of events. Basically, the judge asked me, "Don't you think black folks have enough problems without you white folks making things tougher on us?" He also said much harsher, much more racially-tinged things to me.

I was, in a word, flabbergasted. So were the people with me. Luckily, the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence. But that judge certainly made it a point to take this white boy down a peg or 2. :cmad:

Quit being such a racist and things like that won't happen to you. :o

YAAAWWWNNN!!!
I live in England and now there's more racism against white people than anyone else. In fact when I was looking for a room to rent people actually wrote on adverts "No white people" or just flat out wrote the advert in Urdu so that no one else could understand it.

Yet you were still able to get one, I assume.

That's kinda beside the point. You can't really offer a place for rent and say, "No Black People," or "Asian," or "Hispanic," or "No bald people," "No short people," etc. It's blatantly wrong to offer services for all but a specific group of people based solely on their looks, which are beyond anyone's abilities to control.

short people got no reason to live...

All white people do not share these priviledges. There's no point in generalizing. And besides, itt's not even "white priviledge". It's "upper class white priviledge". Or just plain "upper class priviledge".

And don't mistake "the absence of stereotyping, racism or bigotry" for "white priviledge".

Now, do whites often have advantages that other "ethnicities" don't? Sure, to a point, but not all of them. It's just a contexual priviledge. It's called "favoritism". I might be a better actor, singer, and a much better choice for The Beast than the "local boy" was, but does
that mean I will get the part? Nope.

Sure, a lack of fairness does exist, but it's not just for whites. It exists in many subcultures and contexts.

And as far as white kids and rap culture...wealthy white kids haven't adopted "rap culture" because they got bored. They've adopted it because it's been sold to them ad nauseum and they buy anything that's sold to them hard enough. POWER RANGERS, NSYNC, Hannah Montana, High School Musical...rap culture...

6. I can turn on the television or open to the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely represented.

Black people have a section of the paper like that. It's called the police breifs :o .

I kid. Seriously, this lady sounds like a racist. But, she's a "good" racist that uses her racism to reflect the evil of racism. That list is bull**** and each point could be said about blacks as well.

Although some of them are iffy, I wouldn't write it off as applicable to anyone.
One might bring up the point of areas that have more minorities then whites, but more often then not, the suburbs are mostly white and a black person may very well feel these pressures.
What makes her a racist, that she notices there is a problem?

Is there racism in America? Yes. Do white people go through life getting everything handed to them because they are not black? No.
Not everything, but the theory goes that whiteness is an asset for any move they are educated enough to make.
Thing is, you have to sit back a look at the racist roots of our countries and realize that despite the progress there are still a lot of remnants. Hell, Canada is apparently one of the beacons of multiculturalism, its much less racist then most countries, most countries if not all are racist to varying degrees... It's pretty complicated really.

See, black too have some privilege. Anytime something doesn't go their way, they have the privilege of blaming their skin color.
Sometimes the excuse is substantiated, sometimes it's just that, an excuse. Not saying society should turn a blind eye to minority mischief because of some guilt crap, but try to rework the system so it isn't conducive to chaos.

I agree. I see and hear white generlizations all the time. And I hear it publically as well. I was called white boy plenty of times in high school. It wouldn't fly the other way around.
That comes with the turf, doesn't make it right but it is a trend. Whenever there is a Dominant group and a subdominant group, the subdominant will feel freer to criticize the dominant group. That may be why White people, Christians, and the like seem like fair game, because they are already in a top power position.

Racism is important, but the idea of white privilege is absurd. Just another way to demonize white people.
It's not demonizing white people, it's trying to raise awareness to a phenomenon that isn't all that absurd, yet, case in point, whose benefactors are usually oblivious to its existence and defencive about its possibility.

So, if you don't believe that you have some sort of special privilege because of your skin color, you are in denial? That sounds pretty racist.
It isn't a question of not believing, it seems more of an adamant refusal to even consider it.

Let's focus on our differences and racial stereotypes in a negative manner to drive us further apart as human beings! WHOOOOO!!!!!

It isn't an attempt to drive people further apart, if you really take the time to read what some of these people are saying, it is about bringing them closer together.

All white people do not share these priviledges. There's no point in generalizing. And besides, itt's not even "white priviledge". It's "upper class white priviledge". Or just plain "upper class priviledge".

Might not be lower class white people privilege, but you don't have to reach as far up as upper class, maybe middle-middle class or even lower.

And don't mistake "the absence of stereotyping, racism or bigotry" for "white priviledge".
Not sure what you mean...

Now, do whites often have advantages that other "ethnicities" don't? Sure, to a point, but not all of them. It's just a contexual priviledge. It's called "favoritism". I might be a better actor, singer, and a much better choice for The Beast than the "local boy" was, but does

White privilege is just that, favouritism for whites within the societal framework.

Might not be lower class white people privilege, but you don't have to reach as far up as upper class, maybe middle-middle class or even lower.

It depends on the extent and nature of the priviledges. Which again, makes it all about situationality and context.

Our women get away with uncanny amounts of attitude. Not quite Latina levels but still enough to make you wanna strangle somebody.
Which is exactly what makes them so damn attractive.

To answer the question, I have no idea if white people have any special privilege. I'd assume so, but I don't know for sure. I've never been anything but white, so I have nothing to compare it to.

Mmmmmyeah, not really seeing it. I could see where it's maybe a stumbled attempt to bring them closer, but in the end it's focused on divisiveness more than it is inclusion and is likely to turn people away from the goal or further cement them in their viewpoints about stereotypes. Fail.

I think all races and all sexes have certain privileges unique to their situations.

A woman can get away with things a man can't. A man can get away with things a woman can't.

Whites get away with some things, blacks others, etc. etc.

Word worrrrd

Privilege goes around in one long unfair circle :o

It all depends on the social environment where you believe the privilege would be given :o

Time to do this Chris Rock style: If you can get in front of an audience and give a speech, and no one says to you, "wow, you are so well spoken", you have just had a taste of white privilege. :p

"White privilege" is a myth. There's a "class privilege" in the United States where people of a certain background or financial status live a different lifestyle. The issue is that the vast majority of those people are white, and because of that its generalized by minority groups as being "all white people" because they, ironically enough, dont look past the surface factors of why those people are in the positions they're in. Being white alone doesnt get you much in this country. Take a look at South Boston or the Kensington section of Philadelphia, or certain sections of Detroit, and you can see that plain as day.

I've read that authors list of points and a lot of those dont come from some skin color privilege, a lot of them come from being the large majority in this country for almost 250 years. Like it or not the majority of the country is white. So, not surprisingly, the majority of people you see on TV, in the news, on products, etc. are going to be guess what? White. It's not some covert privilege in place to keep everyone else down, its just sheer demographics. Go to a country where blacks or asians or hispanics are the majorities and it will be the complete opposite.

As for some of her other points about not being afraid to go shopping or fearing for our kids safety, they couldnt be more off base. Are white people "privileged" that they dont feel likely to get mugged at every turn? Or are black people cursed because they do? My boss is black and lives in a half million dollar house in one of the nicest subrubs of Philly. I wonder how safe his wife feels when she's walking out Neimann Marcus at the King of Prussia Mall? Probably pretty damn safe. Again, it's a class thing not a race thing.

Hahaha, that's funny. So white kids who live in the suburbs get bored of having things handed to them, so they start sagging their pants and "rapping". Hmmm

Of course, they act like all the Africans. Like you,i'm suprised you never heard of this before. Have you seen this with your own eyes?

Another thing is that some whtes are skinny...really thin. So they have asian tattoos to make themselfs look wild. Like in Chinese or Japanese.

i cant believe people don't understand simple concepts

the majority of people in charge are white, therefore things are slanted towards whites.
