Who do you want to see as Captain Marvel?

I hear auditions are starting soon at elementary schools across the country.

I'm sure most people wouldn't want a middle aged Ms Marvel..

My top choices are Theron, Blunt, Pike, and Chastain, with Emily Blunt I think as the most logical one because of her age. If she was picked she'd be in her mid to late 30s which is not too old, while the other choices are well in their 40s.

I'm definitely hoping for Blunt to get the role I actually think she looks a lot like Carol Danvers especially her current run with David Lopez.

After that disagreement with Krypton INC (no hard feeilngs buddy) I'm not as objective to her casting.

We already have one old superhero, you want another one? Wha!?

:oldrazz:

She won't be 39, she'll be 43 when it starts. And yeah I really do feel that's too old considering I want this character to be around for several more films afterwards. I'd say 28-32 would be the age range I looked at.

No offense, but I find your thinking in this matter rather shortsighted.

I have something to say: this whole "She's too old" mentality here is ridiculous. It's not about the age. It's about being physically able to pull off the role. Charlize Theron is in PERFECT shape, is an Oscar-winning household name and could seriously give RDJ and Chris Evan's characters a run for their money. Hell, she could command Scarlett around with conviction in a way that audiences would buy it.

Consider the following example:

Halle Berry is almost 50 years old. Did her age cross your mind when she was kicking ass in Days Of Future Past? And by the way, she was also PREGNANT with her second child while they had her suspended on wires for these "Storm" flight scenes. Like Charlize, Halle keeps herself in fighting shape and looks amazing.

So um...check this out: Charlize is about 10 years younger than Halle Berry now. So let's please come off the "Charlize's too old" bulls***. It simply has no relevance on a genre based on fantasy. We're supposed to get lost in these characters while watching them on screen, not thinking about the actors' IMDB profile stats. Charlize would be better qualified than most of the actresses on this list.

Okay... That's not a reason though not to cast. That's just pointing out that the heroes so far cast have been that way... Oh wait.... Boseman is 37 and will be 38-39 when they start filming his solo, and Renner was 40 when he was cast as Hawkeye, Cheadle was 45 when he was cast, Ruffalo was 43... Again harry... What's the reasoning here? Where is the hard and fast rule (that apparently has already been broken) that says Carol has to be closer to 30 than she is to 40? Is it because Carol is a female character? Cuz it seems that's the only salient factor. In truth the majority of the MCU main cast were not 26-30.

Brilliant post. You totally get it. I think the fanboy community holds actresses to a different "age" standard than their male counterparts...it's kinda sexist when you think about it.

I thought it already showed up when you compared Theron to Ann Margaret?

I didn't compare Theron to Ann Margaret. That little bit of absurdity was related to people stating someone else's age at casting as it relates to casting for Captain Marvel.

Well,I ended up voting for Hudson, since I've always wanted to see her as a Marvel character (and at 35,she's a few tender years away from becoming an Old Crone).

I still think Strahovski is a solid choice.I think she easily has the look and probably is the actress that could best handle the physicality of the role.

I can only speak for myself, but I felt the same way when I heard Johnny Depp's name being thrown around for Doctor Strange.

But there's also this attitude in here that a younger actress just can't be taken seriously that could equally be called sexist if you want to go there.

True, you've got a serious point there. It goes both ways.

I look at it this way: It is a strong possibility that DC's Wonder Woman film (that comes out a year earlier than Captain Marvel) may be a massive dissapointment. Call it a gut feeling but I just don't think Gal Gadot can carry that franchise. If Marvel keeps it's golden "Midas Touch" string of hits going, by time Captain Marvel debuts people will be flocking to see how Marvel treats its answer to Wonder Woman. So while it's important to get an actress that is young looking, it's more important to get a solid actor with major chops and gravitas (like what RDJ did for Iron Man) to solidify this franchise once and for all.

I'm not saying Emily Blunt couldn't do it. She can--and I adore her. But Charlize Theron could it do it waaaay more effectively--especially at the box office. Attaching her name to this project would put more asses in those theater seats than any other actress on this list. Isn't that what we all want?

As someone who's going to be about four years away from 40 by the end of this year, I 'm all for bringing on a 35-40 year old actress for Carol Danvers. Honestly, Theron or Chastain can believably play younger than their ages; I thought Chastain was closer to 30.

while I agree that the actress they choose for Carol Danvers needs to be able to handle her physicality, that doesn't, nor should it, necessarily discount the older actresses, such as the case with Halle Berry. Didn't Sandra Bullock also show that a 50 year old woman can take on a physically demanding role?

It shouldn't be a blanket prohibition on actresses of a certain age. I'd prefer Carol to be around my age or slightly older.

Also, I'm really glad that others want Charlize as Carol Danvers. She's been one of my fan casts from waaaaay early on!

What? I thought she was already morphing into Goldie Hawn. :woot: :p

I agree with this. Strahovski is my first choice. Surround her with other bigger names for Mar-Vell and her supporting cast. Let Carol's casting be like Evans and Hemsworth where they were known but not super famous or A-list stars.

Also, I mentioned this in the Inhumans forum. I think either Charlize Theron or Jessica Chastain would better better for Medusa. They would also have the more regal presence. If you get them for Carol, who are you going to get with that air of authority for Medusa? Theron is more like a queen than a captain.

Interesting thought there.

I chose Strahovski, but would be fine with most of the choices in the poll. Saying that, I hope this will be like the Star-Lord casting, names that make sense will get auditioned and then the person who gets the part comes completely out of left field but makes total sense for the character.

I have a feeling that Strahovski will be the one who gets it - mainly a TV actress but had broken into movies a little, like a lot of other Marvel stars have been. She's a similar age to their other castings plus there were all those rumours a while back. Has anyone in an interview ever actually asked her about it? Over the four/five years since that rumour first emerged someone must have... Right?

Hmmm...gotta admit I like that idea too. Charlize was devastatingly scary and convincing at the Evil Queen in that last Snow White & The Huntsman film. But somehow she just feels like a better fit for Carol Danvers. I always pictured her in either that role or that of Invisible Woman (and we all know that Fantastic Four is too f***ed up now beyond recognition for Marvel to even touch that right now).

I remember a Q&A show that Zack Levi hosted for his charity earlier this year,in which Strahovski was the guest. From what I remember, she seemed enthusiastic about the role when asked, and said she had spoken with Marvel, but wasn't at liberty to say what had been discussed.:awesome:
