Who do you want to see as Captain Marvel?

And so spake Boseman. And Cumberbatch. And a whole host of others. Take that wishy-washy I had talks, but they were about another character stuff with a pinch of salt. To rule her out abjectly based on what she said would be a mistake IMO.

Exactly... Though one could make an argument that JC was discussing Medusa as well ;)

She was quick to bring up the 2018 date for Cap. Marvel though, which I do think is indicative that there are talks with her. As always though, if there are, the actress is not going to risk losing out on the role by openly discussing it. Chastain comes across as extremely enthusiastic about wanting to work with Marvel.

Also, I don't know how one looks like a character whose appearance changes with every artist?

After the movie comes out i'm sure she'll be drawn to look like whomever is cast to play her.

Exactly. It's a ridiculous criticism (and one that is entirely down to how one prefers the character to be drawn).

Huh? Winnick's like 7 months younger than Chastain. Look, Winnick's my top choice, but when you disqualify Jessica Chastain as being too old to play Carol, it's more than a little... weird.

Not to go all bubblegum-pop-psychology on you, but to you it seems to be more about wanting a (personally) sexually idealized Carol than a younger Carol. And I really don't think that's the right way to go about casting a superhero character.

What? absolutely not! I had no idea she was that old! it's not like that, I don't root for actresses only because i personally find them sexually attractive, I root for who looks the most like Carol!

He did this very same thing w/Aaron Paul and Jake G in the Superman/Batman thread. Everybody's age is listed on wikipedia, Harry :funny:

Rosie O'Donnell is the actress I want in this role the least.

I dunno… she could rock the costume.

My point exactly, Havok. I have a strong feeling they'll go with the same approach as they are with Black Panther. Having them appear in other movies first to familiarize us with the actor and character.

1. Cucumber hasn't been cast yet.
2. Actors generally will play it off in a joking manner or just straight up deny talks of it all.
She did neither, she simply said we're in talks but for another character.

My bets on someone most people aren't even thinking of, like Sara Gaston or someone else.

You do realise casting hasn't started yet and won't for a while, right? Of course she hasn't spoken to Marvel about it

At the Phase 3 announcement Feige said they were going to start casting soon. Makes sense if the's going to show up in other movies before her own.

Still, he specifically stated they'd be hiring writers / directors first, and there's no reason to assume Feige was lying. Boseman was the exception in that he needed to be cast for Civil War.

Which really shouldn't be a problem, considering she's a fantastic actress

Yup. How closely an actress looks to Captain Marvel is far down the list of priorities. Acting ability and passion for the project are much higher in my book.

Based on what? Both Cumberbatch and Boseman were fan-casted/fan favorites.

I think with the new batch Marvel is looking for those that have already been established some what.

Look at their post Phase 1 casting. Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, likely Cumberbatch or some other known actor. Heck even Mark Ruffalo was somewhat known when he replaced Ed Norton.

All are known, some more than others.

So you guys expect me to not want the actress playing Carol to look like Carol?

If you prioritise that over acting ability, then yes. We want someone who can be Carol, not just look like her

Why can't we have both? Emily Blunt isn't the only good actress around. Someone like Margot Robie is both a good actress and looks like her.

I'm not saying we can't, just that I'd much rather, were it down to two actresses, that the one who was the best actress got it, rather than the one who looked most like comic Carol (and even then that's subjective).

Not sure I buy Robbie as an officer in the Air Force

I haven't seen enough of Winnick, she looks the part, I just wish I had more to go on than just the show Vikings, even though I really like it. I like that she is a legit BAMF (Black belt in Taekwando?)

TBH I don't really care for Yvonne, she looks the part, I liked her character in Mass Effect, I was okay with what she did in Chuck, but I didn't really care for her acting in 24.

I'm not familiar with Robbie outside of Wolf of Wallstreet, The reason why I like blunt is she is well established leading presence, plus have been involved in movies which require a strong heroine character, she fits many of the check marks needed.

Strahovski strikes me as someone who, given the right direction, could be fantastic.

Are we seeing Yvonne being pushed by some fans because of her acting ability? Or looks? or the franchises she was a part of that has a huge following (Chuck/Mass Effect)

I agree. People didn't think too much of Chris Evans before and didn't care for his acting in certain films. I think Yvonne isn't that far different from him. She's been in various geek-orientated franchises just like him.

I think it's a combination of many things: her looks (she looks very much the part), her acting and her ability to do action/ physical stuff. Plus she does have a great natural charisma and personality, is popular and is the ideal age (not too young and not too old). She's my top choice over the likes of Margot Robie, Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain, Katie Sackhoff etc.
