Homecoming Who should be the Villain in Spider-Man (2017)? - Part 4

For some reason people seem to think that using Kraven somehow automatically means doing the Last Hunt...

Even if folks think that is his only grest story. That for one is matter if opinion for folks. It doesn't mean a first debut or first story for kraven needs thst. It makes more sense to do the standard intro/debut story. Or just come up with a new original storyline.

I really doubt anyone would argue that KLH isn't Kraven's best story...

No, matter what villain they pick, its not like they are gonna adapt one story. I for one would love Kraven, I like the idea of Kraven hunting spidey because he is the most 'challenging'/'biggest' prey he's seen. I think they could do some cool things by taking a modern take on him. I'm pretty sure someone a while back had found or made some art that had a modern Kraven look

Because that his only great story, his other stories are pretty lackluster.

totally but still like i and others have said doing last hunt for a first film or kraven first appearance would be a wrong story to do. There is no need to do that when you can just do a classic intro story for a first appearance. Then like i said take some aspects and inspiration from last hunt for kraven attitude and plot for a 2nd appearance likely that would be in a sininster six film if they did that for 3rd film for example.

But besides Last Hunt, how many great stories has Kraven had? Kraven was kinda of a lame villain before Last Hunt, its likely the only reason most people care about him, his other stories are very lackluster. I don't think Kraven is interesting enough to be the Big Bad of several films, so when you use him, you have to use the A material, he is not going to get another shot as the Big bad of a film. Now you don't have to do a direct adaption of Kraven's Last Hunt, but i would borrow some elements from it, because that he his A material, trying to make him a compelling Big bad without his A material would be pretty hard.

I liked Kraven as a villain but I hated Last Hunt. So there ya go.

I think you might be in the minority on that one. But I will ask, what other great stories has Kraven had besides Last Hunt? I don't think you can take a generic Kraven story, like ASM 15 and make it the basis of a whole film, there is just not enough material there.

Oh, believe me, I am. :\

The villain isn't really supposed to carry a movie-- at least not when it's a hero like Spidey. A lot of classic Spidey conflicts aren't with some supervillain who is going to destroy the world-- they're at school and at home when he's balancing his everyday life with his hero life.

I'm not pushing for Kraven in a movie though, I'd much prefer Shocker.

It will always be a combo

Whats your exposure to kraven though? Mostly tv? All the comic library? Just more recent decades? The ultimate universe?

Makes a big difference...

.... shocker cant even remktely carry a film. Hes just a grunt, a thief for hire who always fails... he and rhino are just basically fan favorite long running joke villains... sure theyve been given more depth than the likes of gibbon and kangaroo... but not remotely enough to carry a narrative.

Shocker seemed like a perfect cold open villain to me, but not really the actual villain of the story. It's not even really about character depth or anything either, he's kind of a boring villain visually. His only power is to shoot energy beams or vibrations or whatever out of wrist guns. That's not very interesting for a main villain, and it's not like he has a solid history of stories and relationships with Spidey to fall back on.

I'd like to see him in, however.

I don't know why people expect them to adopt a story straight from the comics. That very rarely happens, especially with guys like Kraven who are easy to insert into whatever story you need to tell.

My exposure to Kraven before I read KLH was mostly from reading reprints of the early Spider-Man comics and then the actual comics preceding that storyline.

I don't like the Ultimate Kraven.

I think you missed the majority of my post:

But because the villains tend to be more obstacles then anything else in Spidey stories, you gotta make them look impressive, especially for a film. I don't think Shocker's ever not been paired with some other villain in other media for quite a while now. Either with the Sinister Six or Rhino or the Enforcers or whatever.
I'm just not sure what you can do with a guy like Shocker as the big bad. He's just a normal dude, for the most part.

shocker doesn't have to be threatening.. he just has to be useful to part of the story..

i've always said make him a re-occuring villain spidey quickly takes down, if a couple of films... then have peter almost kill him when he has the black suit... and learns the symbiotes vulnerability to high frequency and vibrations from shockers abilities...

it carries impact when peter nearly snaps and kills the annoying joke guy he keeps getting arrested from past films.

The villain should be like Ock in a regard, no real ties to Spidey.
During SM2, after the incident, Ock did what he wanted and it happened by chance that Spider-Man was there, it wasn't ''Oh, i'm going to hurt Spidey' or ''Oh, Peter is Spider-Man, he betrayed me'', it was mere coincidence that his student happened to be Spider-Man but Ock mostly went doing his own buisneess during the movie, looking for Tridium.
At the end, the problem isn't getting rid of the bad guy and saving the day, the problem is: Will Peter defeat the villain to get out and come back to High School to finish that Spanish test, or Peter will return to his date with MJ, or will he return before May has another heart attack because he isn't returning home, the problem have to affect the guy behind the mask, not the mask itself.

Really Shocker can just be a henchman, working for another more cunning and ambitious villain, providing fight scenes and doing leg work for guys like Mysterio or Kingpin.

I want Shocker to be a sort of Boba Fett figure, but with proper screentime

Also, he must have his classic suit!

Something like that would be fantastic!
