I agree with HopefulDreamer in, that as a solo, mono to mono villain, he not that interesting, but as a global threat to humanity, and everyday life, that Supes have to contend with, than I say that's the best way to use Brianiac. That's where he is the most dangerous, and that's how any film should depict the story when using Brainiac, imo.

Can someone explain to me what it is that's so great about Brainiac?

Everyone seems to love him and wants him on the big screen, but why? What would be the amazing storyline with Brainiac as the main villain?

I mean, he's AI. He doesn't have a 'personality', or any quality I've ever particularly found enjoyable in stories.

Yes, he's a formidable opponent and could have an 'army'. But personally I just find him kind of boring :(

Maybe I just haven't read/seen the best stories. I dunno.

Well my reasons are multiple.

Firstly I think visually he has the potential to be amazing, and his probes can be used for some great action sequences.

I feel Superman's connection to him and Krypton will provide interesting story material as he can play with Kal El's emotions, teasing him with knowledge of a home world he barely remembers.

The fact he is emotionless and calculating with a singular motive to gather intelligence and destroy makes him an unusual threat.

Lastly there's the fact he's tech based, so much of our life these days revolves around technology, from the every day to the battlefield. I think both the social and national security themes as relates to Superman would be very interesting.

Point 1, I understand. I'm sure it would look visually fantastic.

Point 2... well isnt that what Zod is going to be doing in movie number 1... but you know, WITH a personality and emotions.

As for the other two points, that's really just a matter of taste.

Personally I find a villain who's aim is to 'gather intelligence' kind of lifeless and dull. And technology and how dependant we are on it, as a main focus of the movie, wouldn't interest me TBH.

I dunno, if they decide to go with him for a sequel, i'll keep an open mind. But i've never found him a particularly interesting villain myself.

I don't think Zod has the depth of knowledge Brainiac has, nor the connection to Kal El's father.

The emotionless part for me is more interesting as it's the polar opposite of the heart on the sleeve nature of Superman, or the power hungry ego centric villain.

In truth though I wasn't trying to convince you of the themes I find interesting, I was just answering your question of why I'd like Brainiac to be the villain in a sequel. :)

:) Yeah I know, like I said, I can see that obviously you have good reasons to like him, and it's just a matter of taste.

I'm gonna try and read some more brainiac related stories, maybe revisit brainiac centric episodes of STAS. See if I can't stir up a little interest myself.

The STAS episodes are a pretty good look at the character, plus the Geoff Johns Brainiac arc.

I'm interested though, who is your villain of choice for a sequel? :)

Honestly, I don't think I can make a judgement on that until seeing MOS.

You have to have an idea of the world they've built and the characterisation they've chosen to go with, before you know which villains will best compliment/best follow the storyline of the first one.

Well, who would you like to see, in otherwords?

Superman 2: Brainiac (primary threat), Luthor (secondary) Metallo (tertiary)

Superman 3: Luthor (primary) Bizarro (secondary)

The thing is I'd say that in general Superman's rogues gallery is not a great cinematic fit without an overhaul, and the more cinematic ones will be flexible enough to fit into a world that we know contains Zod.

Brainiac and of course Lex Luthor.

Brainiac has been known to play with Superman's mind and feelings. I don't think Zod is like that.

Just Brainiac. Honestly, I don't want to see Luthor again until the fourth movie.

I'd prefer if Lex were just more of a behind the scenes villain for the second movie.

After seeing the poster and its obvious reference to Kingdom Come, I'm now wishing for Magog to be the antagonist in the 2nd movie.

Because Brainiac poses a a different type of threat to Superman. He's not Zod, he's not Metallo. Superman's powers won't do him any good against a foe like that. I'm curious to see where they could take it.

I say the second film should feature Lex and Brainiac.

Lex and Brainiac team-up would be awesome.

Ya. Don't get the fascination with him either.

Give me Metallo for part II.
Darkseid for part III.

Using Zod in the first film basically eliminates Braniac.

Luthor in the 2nd, and I have actually become convinced that Bizzaro can be a powerful villian if used right, from both a physical standpoint and character point of view.

Have to save Darkseid for JL....although I wouldn't mind hinting of his coming in a sues flick, leading to a JL.

If we get a sequel and hopefully we will, I think Lex had to appear in some form but for the villain I want Brainiac, maybe Lex can play a role like he did in the New 52 Action Comics storyline with Brainiac.

Braniac (primary)

Luthor (secondary).

It would be a good time for Bruce Wayne to make a cameo if Luthor is in it.

Brainiac-Luthor vs Superman-Batman.

I would just hope if they use luthor they actually use the super-genius tech guy instead of the previous versions we've seen on screen.

but brainiac would be cool and since Darkseid will probably be JL I think Superman/Mongul would be neat to see as well.
