Homecoming Who should reboot villain be? (Poll Version) - Part 1

I wonder if Marvel Studios will finally break their trend of including hordes of goons / "meat walls" in their films. In IM3 it was those genetically altered fire dudes and Iron Man's suits, in Thor 2 it was the Dark Elves, in Guardians it was the Nova Corp, in Age of Ultron it was the Ultron robots. Not sure if Hydra goons count in CA:TWS because it didn't feel like an "army" like in the other films. We obviously won't know about Ant-Man yet.

I mean, it feels Marvel Studios want their films to be pretty big in scale, I wonder if they'll break their own trend by making this smaller and more personal.

That's why they should stick to one villain. Right now I'm torn between Kraven and Mysterio.

They could have one major villian and one small villain per film. Like Scorpion and Kraven or Shocker and Mysterio. Or Doc Ock and Rhino, etc.

Mysterio as the main villian with Shocker as a villian for the opening 10 minutes

Use elements of Mark Millar's and Bendis' portryal of Norman Osborn. Have him create and bankroll Supervillains, until he becomes the Green Goblin.

That could make it become another "Oscorp villain factory" problem again. I'd prefer the villains to be their own creations. I want Shocker to create his own suit and his own gauntlets. I want Mysterio to be his own boss. I want Doc Ock to be the cause of his own experiment. Same goes for Lizard. Etc.

The only ones I want to see created by someone else are Scorpion, Rhino, perhaps Sandman etc.

Ya mysterio would be a great villain to do. He has a simple backstory. And be a nice first time big threat. And he is different from all past film villains. It be a nice break in things

Scorpion be a great movie to play up jj hates on spidey and have jj be a big factor in film.

Oscorp villain factory is too much on the nose, specially if EVERYONE including a special effects mysterious guy was "created" in a lab...

I don't mind that plot point if it makes sense for the characters and overall direction of the overarching plot (it worked for the Spectacular Spiderman show but it didn't for the movie reboot) but even in a setting like that it only makes sense to tie characters that could possibly have anything to do with Oscorp instead of making it lazily connected to everything evil...

This is also why I think Mysterio is the better choice because it clearly breaks the pattern for villain creation in a Spiderman movie:

- He isn't a result of a lab accident.
- He hasn't got anything to do with Oscorp or any kind of lab for that matter.
- He has a "power set" that's away from the science themes of the world (at least at first glance, he looks like he could be doing magic)

I agree Michael! Mysterio would pretty much be perfect for those reasons (and more). Same goes for Kraven or Kingpin if you ask me.

You pretty much nailed all the reasons I'd want him as the first solo villain, too.

Would anyone want a Kraven the Hunter interpretation which would make him a hired professional hitman of sorts?

My only gripe with the character is that he may be a tad too campy if he's just this big macho man that hunts because that's what he does. Rationalizing him and writing him with a more mundane purpose would make it a little better for me, even if he keeps the trademark lion coat as a pet peeve of his... Even so, I would lampshade the heck out of it by having other characters comment on how weird this guy is. Preferably right before he murders them for insulting him :P

He would still keep his shtick, lion suit, thrill of the hunt and all, but the difference is that he is the guy you hire to hunt your enemies down. He hunts for sport and the money is just an added plus for him. Kingpin could be involved with that or something...

What if Mysterio is somehow connected to Doctor Strange? Both characters are involved with magical, illusion-ish type stuff... Would make sense IMO.

I've always liked the "unstable reality star" origin, where he's a professional hunter of "both beasts and man" and an international celebrity. He secretly uses special herbs that increase his strength and senses, but slowly erode his sanity. When J.J.J. hires him to bring in Spidey, who publically humiliates him on their first encounter, Kraven finally snaps.

I think eventually they are going to do Kraven in the Savage Lands...
It would be different for spiderman, especially because it would likely involve Hulk as his sidekick.
Fort he first movie it should be smaller villains. He is still 16-17, but also fairly new to the superhero thing. (He's been doing it a couple years, but who knows if he has ever fought super villains yet! Maybe the first one could involve Kingpin hiring Shocker, Vulture, and Scorpion. (Or any combo of more street level villains) Second one can be Mysterio. The third could be Venom and all that comes with it, including Anti-Venom? Then the fourth could be the team up with Hulk going to the savage lands. Otherwise it would work best if Savage lands was a Hulk solo and spidey co-starred.
(Here's why I think they have the idea of the Savage Land: BIG SPOILERS FOR AoU, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! The biggest spoiler is in the 'speculation' part and no warning is given.)

I really want to see the Scorpion, personally, but part of me thinks they'll go for someone more iconic, like Doctor Octopus (again), if only to boast that they can out-do what's come before.

Keep it simple at least for yet another reintroduction of the character. Very traditional superhero stuff, even more so than the other MCU movies. No one has really patrolled New York.

Start off with Shocker as a bank robber or something who Spidey stops in the beginning. Get the ball rolling on the city gossiping about who he is. Have Smythe be a patron of the bank who is paralyzed during the robbery and blames Spider-Man. Mac Gargan as a private eye/paparazzi/something or other obsessed with capturing Spider-Man's secret identity. Smythe manipulates Gargan into being the Scorpion.

Carnage is probably too extreme for YET ANOTHER new Spidey. But Carnage, finally, please... just do it.

Mysterio, with Wilson Fisk being mentioned and Norman Osborn as a background villain.
