Who Watches the Critics? The Critic Response Thread

Wait. "Nothing ever ends" and "I did it!" are cut?

It's getting near impossible to keep any optimism about the flick at this point...

Agreed. I WANT to stay positive about Watchmen...it's that dudes review and details about what was wrong with the movie/what got the axe AND the iffier clips (some of them were great, don't get me wrong) makes this whole film seem less promising.

Okay here's one that hasn't been asked....is the terrible Helictoper vs. Archie chase scene from that Godawful Alex Tse draft still in?

(Thanks to Spyder for answering my question)

How funny is the movie, does it have a lot of laughs?

I felt that there were parts that were unintentionally funny. But thats just me.

Snyder gives a rationale for cutting the "Nothing ever ends" line here, if you guys are interested.

OH GOD! I don't know how I'm gonna get through it.

Especially the rape scene.

*cowers in corner crying*

I really didnt think the attempted rape scene was that bad. And Im a girl. You know she's a superhero and he beats her and she takes it.

ummdid you guys even watch the video

who the **** said nothing ever ends is cut it is just Laurie says now quoting Manhattan when talking to Dan at the very end

also one thing is some fans who nit pick get on my nerves it is like you are more worried about

The pagliacci joke
Rorschach Hurmm
captain carnage name drop

than the actual story that is being told

some people seem to have this idea that every word and panel is somehow iconic lol

'Nothing ever ends.' is powerful because of the context of that scene. I do agree that pros seem to outway the cons of the film, however.

Could you give exmples please?

Like the music they would use for some scenes. Im not sure what song they used for one of Dan's and Laurie's lovemaking scenes but it got a lot of laughs from the audience.
I also believe that 99 luft balloons was used when Laurie was meeting Dan for dinner. She walks in while he's cleaning his glasses and then he puts them on and sees her and his mouth is half open (All in slo mo.) That also got laughs.

Viedt screaming "I DID IT!!1" the way he did always bothered me in the book. He didn't seem like the kind of person to do that.

If he does indeed say it I'll be happy, if not, oh well.

Nothing Ever Ends is still in the movie Zach just wanted Laurie to say it to Dan because it is at the very very end of the movie. Not at Karnak he wanted it to resonate well and wanted Jon who made huge sacrifice and wanted Jon to leave something that effected all the characters.

Instead of it being the powerful line that finally beat Adrian Veidt? Still not reason enough to ruin a great moment for an alright one.

come on guys. It could be worse. I mean, would this movie still be highly anticipated if Zack Snyder had cast A list actors like Tom Cruise or Jude Law? I personally think that going with talented actors that are lesser known really works for Watchmen.

And besides guys, no comic book movie or any movie for that matter is perfect. Even the Dark Knight and the Godfather, i have to admit had their flaws. As long as they have the events of Watchmen in chronological order, i will be satisfied. And come on, Watchmen is a very long graphic novel. They had to cut a few things from the theatrical release. At least they are keeping the most important things in the movie. And if its length of time and pace is a problem, who cares? The Dark Knight had those problems, and look how well it did.

My point is, as long as they stay true to the spirit of Watchmen, i will have no problem with it.

You guys have got your opinions and i have mine. Don't judge a movie before you go and see it. You might end up loving it.

And besides, Watchmen is bound to be better then the fourth Superman movie and Batman and Robin.

Oh, and look at people's past attempts to make Watchmen into a movie. Some of them stayed far away from the original source for goodness sake! Zack Snyder is the only director that wants his movie to stay true to the original material. He's more then all right in my books. At least he's making a huge effort to make the movie as close to the graphic novel as possible. Doesn't that count for anything?

Okay, that's what you think. Unfortunatelly for you, you aren't a Hollywood director. Snyder is.

Are you kidding me everyone i know who saw it says it is far from Hollywood movie takes alot and i mean alot of chances. Also one guy i know says Snyder was just a little too faithful to the GN when he should of compromised some lines and scenes from the novel

Yeah, but not the most important one. "Nothing ever ends", as someone mentioned here, was the only and final blow given to Veidt. His plan succeeded, and no one did anything to stop him, so this very line is pretty much the closest thing to heroic anyone did in that book, with the exception of Rorschach and his journal.
