Who will be Strange? - Part 3

I still think it'd be funny if Benedict Cumberbatch and Mads Mikkelsen were in the running for what we thought was Doctor Strange and Baron Moreo respectively, only for it to turn out Mikkelsen is playing Strange and Cumberbatch is playing Mordo. Whoever they cast, I love the notion that the actor playing Strange could easily be Mordo and vice versa.

As far as I'm aware, these "short lists" have never panned out. Jim Sturgess and Joseph Gordon Levitt were listed as the top 2 contenders for Starlord by websites like Variety and Deadline and BAM! Chris Pratt is cast out of nowhere. I really really can't see Marvel going with someone like Cumberbatch.

BTW, I like that this thread has an air of mystery to it. Even after the casting announcement, they should just rename it to "Who is Doctor Strange."

The Cumber*****es are going to have a meltdown if this doesn't pan out for BC. LOL. It makes me laugh just thinking about it.

Off topic but, the late, great, Vincent Price would have been the perfect Doctor Strange.

Price was the orignal inspiration for Strange, of course he would have been great in the role. Another reason why Cumberbatch is so ****ing perfect for the part, since he is a very similar actor in many ways to Price or Cushing

It might be hard being Strange while he's also Batman, Brainiac, Martian Manhunter and Tony Stark (not saying he couldn't do it).

If BC isn't confirmed, I'm back on the Gyllenhaal bandwagon. His IMDB picture kinda sealed it for me. And his Nightcrawler performance.

Im still pushing for jake G but the Cumberpatch rumor has me ready and willing to accept him in the role.

I haven't really been jumping on the Cumberbandwagon, but I never had a problem with him in the role, either. Well, I was home sick from work today and saw that Sherlock was available to watch instantly on Netflix, so I just watched the first episode (didn't realize that Martin Freeman was in it, which is what convinced me to watch).

Well, it's much easier to get behind Cumberbatch after watching that episode. It was really well done. He plays the arrogant/aloof/intelligent/but still charming doctor very well, and I liked it better than other roles I've seen him in. I can totally picture shades of his Sherlock in his portrayal of Doctor Strange.

There are still other suggestions out there I like (the Jake Gyllenhaal one is great), but if the Cumberbatch rumor is confirmed, I would be onboard.

Vincent Price is Vincent Van Ghoul, period.

Personally I'd love Ethan Hawke in the role. He's a good age for it I think and he brings gravitas

Wong: John Cho
As someone smarter than me said, "Wong should be Strange's Watson, not his Alfred."

Silver Dagger: Malcolm McDowell
Isaiah Curwen thinks all magic is bad. So he uses magic to to kill magic users. He doesn't quite see the irony.

Baron Karl Mordo: Lawrence Fox
Imagine if you devoted your life to an ideal... and then your teacher threw you over for the arrogant derelict who just wanted his hands fixed to again charge exorbitant rates to save peoples lives.

Clea: Kate Upton
I don't know her acting ability, but she seems pretty cool in those "Making of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition" shows.

Sara Wolfe: Navi Rawat
Her Pre-Ass-Kicking One Liner: "I'M AN ACCOUNTANT!"

Morganna Blessing: Emmy Rossum
Morganna was written into the Dr. Strange book as someone who would be perfect for Strange, if not for the whole "Sorcerer Supreme" thing.

Count me in the Gyllenhaal camp, right now he is my favourite actor and he if was cast the film would shoot straight up next to Ragnarok and Civil War for anticipation for the 'solo' films.

But I don't think he will be cast anyway because following on from Prince of Persia he definitely seems to be going for smaller, character driven films, and I always think the only actors who would sign these long length contracts are actors who think they need the boost in their careers, Scarlett Johansson probably being one of the few who was already A-list when she signed on.

I think Gyllenhaal is probably quite happy doing his 1, 2 films a year which tend to get high praise and wouldn't need to sign a long contract for big blockbusters films which would mean doing less of those type of character films.

Personally I can't imagine any other actor saying DS spells and sounding anywhere as cool as BC would undoubtebly make it. He's my 1 and only choice, I'd be super bumbed if he couldn't do it, BUUUT I'd still have faith in marvel and the film.

If I were to pick anyone from history to be Doctor Strange, it'd be Christopher Lee, circa The Devil Rides Out.

I always thought Orson Welles would make a great Strange. An arrogant genius who's good at magic? That's Welles in a nut shell!

If Benedict Cumberbatch is still in the frame, we may find out a little more soon. He'll likely be doing publicity for The Intimidation Game soon (that hasn't came out in the US yet, has it?), and someone is sure to ask him a Doctor Strange question at some point.

Hope they can wrap it up soon whoever it is.

Personally I'm hoping Cumberbatch has it in the bag. There was a while there where it seemed like he was ruled out (probably when Phoenix was close to signing), but now it's been rumoured again I'm hoping it works out.

I'm remind of the mock 1950's style Avengers trailer someone made on YT years ago. Would be fun to see someone do the same with Vincent Price as Dr. Strange.

I was hoping he would have been asked about it on the Graham Norton show, but Graham kept bugging him about his Star Wars set visit and if he had a role in the film. lol
