Apparently I will have to turn in my lady card, because I find Cumberbatch so unattractive. I wanted Keanu but even Isaac or Ramirez would gave been better than this news. Kind of ruined my day, to be honest.:csad:

It's ruined your day because they didn't cast someone you fancy? Unbelievably shallow.

I can't believe that people are bashing this as 'predictable' and 'uninspired' they are making this as a safe choice akin to buying a honda accord instead of searching for mercedes? How is that a fair comparison? Cumberbatch is easily the top 3 most talented on the list? He is no Honda accord
Yes Chris Pratt was out of the box and worked great, but what they needed was a young guy who can do good comedy and they are plenty of young guys capable of that, they needed to just search well.Basically any young guy and churn a six-pack nowadays so he worked. And with all due respect to Chris,Dr Strange requires a lot more talent

1.He is the perfect age, neither too young/boyish(Jake G) nor too old (Reeves,Cruise) meaning he can continue this role for 15 years if they want him too

2.He has done his fair share of CGI/Blockbuster movies meaning he will have no problem blending into the green screen and do endless promotion for the movie(unlike Phoenix who has never worked with CGI and is a press room disaster)

3.He has already played a likeable-arrogant-genius-as*hole in Sherlock and completely owned the role in such a way that it dwarfed RDJ's Sherlock so he already knows a thing or two about playing this role

4.He probably has the most enchanting male voice in Hollywood,in a world which isn't Harry Potter, chanting spells may seem ridiculous which is why it is absolutely necessary to have a good voice behind the spells

5.He is a favorite among general audience(especially females),which will bring a lot of additional hype to this movie

6.This will potentially snatch him away from any roles in DC movies and that's also a win in this competitive genre

Remember how awful he was in Dracula?

Anyway I'm feeling apathetic about the casting announcement.
Maybe I should get around to watching Sherlock.

You haven't watched Sherlock?
Watch it immediately,Cumberbatch kills in that role

LOL. That's me--SHALLOW. Yes, I like good looking men, and Cumberbatch ain't one of them.

And THAT'S the reason you're disappointed in this casting decision. Nothing to do with acting ability, nothing to do with the character, just looks, so yeah, shallow.

As time sets in im starting to love this pick more and more. Initially I had other names in mind although I knew Cumby would do just fine. But I do love this pick now more than ever, although i would've loved him as braniac or MMH.

Hopefully he hits puberty before filming starts, or maybe one of his powers can be to magically grow a beard.

They can use a fake beard,RDJ used a fake one in some scenes of IM1

Pretty much sums it up

I preferred others to Cumberbatch (knowing full well that BC can KILL this role). I think it's been a general "I've seen him too much" feeling with The Hobbit, Sherlock, Trek, etc. but Marvel does their thing right so I'm going to look forward to it... if nothing more than THAT VOICE. Hahaha.

I think Cumberbatch would prove to be a smarter choice than Phoenix for all the reasons stated above. He's probably likely to bring in a bigger crowd because of his legions of fans, which can only help with a movie like Doctor Strange, which could otherwise be a bit trippy for audiences. Many will go see this because it's the new Cumberbatch movie, while others will want to see another Sherlock Holmes type character.

Why is it that Marvel seem to want a-holes to headline their franchises? RDJ, Pratt and now Cumberbatch.

It's amusing to me that people keep bringing up the "he's in too much stuff" argument. People like McKellen, Stewart, Jackman, RDJ, etc are in FAR more high-profile stuff than BC and yet people don't make that same complain about them.

Have not heard of this effect for his other movies, internet fan buzz is one thing, I just hope it carries over to the movie as well.

Definitely, he actually hasn't been in too much stuff. He's played side roles in his bigger films and he's a CGI dragon in one film so you don't even see his freakin face.

I wouldn't really say that Stewart is in far more high profile stuff than BC. Yes, he has Star Trek and X-Men, but unless you're into those, you don't otherwise see him that much on the big screen in various movies. He doesn't get as many roles as McKellen, Jackman or RDJ, and not even as many as Cumberbatch, which is a shame really.

Yeah.... I think it's the combination of 1) he's a genre mainstay, in a mix of sci-fi/fantasy projects with huge fanbases mixed with his indie and drama projects and theater work plus 2) the fact that he is fancast in everything under God's green earth. Not really his fault though, but I think it's more his fanbase that turns me off of him too.

I'm warming up to the idea. I just... Do wish it had been more of a surprise. Like Paul Rudd, Chris Pratt, and Michael Douglas. Though I have to say the more I look at BhutrosBhutros Cumberbund's fan art for DOCTOR STRANGE the more I think he looks amazing for the part.

Could be worse with over exposure could have been Tom Hardy, who seems to be in every film next year

All that to say I'm certainly not turning away from STRANGE. I am desperate for this movie to give a bigger Asian presence than the other Marvel Studio movies thus far.

Though I am still riding the high from Dave Bautista's performance as Drax :)

Ha! Again, not even Hardy's fault, and not something I should hold against him as an actor if he has so many projects set for release in a year. He's getting work, which is great for him. Shouldn't blame him for his hustle ;)

Once again disappointed by Dr. Strange casting news. I thought I was getting filet mignon, but instead someone decided chicken pot pie would be good enough.

Is he still chicken pot pie if he manages to Oscar for THE IMITATION GAME?

I'd think he'd at least graduate to bone-in ribeye ;)

A lto of those guys have been in a lot but over time. BC popped up and was jam packed into a bunch of roles basically from 2010 on -- War Horse, Tinker Tailor, Fifth Estate, Hobbit, ST:ID, Sherlock, etc. I like him, but it felt like overkill. And yes, he played a CGI dragon, but for a buff like me (1500+ Bluray/DVD collection), who watched the extras... you just know.

It's likely just in my head, and you could be very right, but it is a sentiment that a lot of people hold too. They see him and go "how many movies has he done these days?"

Great actor. Looking forward to him in the role. Was just pulling for someone new and slightly out of left field.

i have no complaints, Tom hardy is one of my favourite actors, I'd rather he be in more films I was just making a point that there are more actors with more roles going on.

I also don't think Cumberbatch has been over exposed, he is in a TV show with 3 series of 3 episodes of 1 an half hours in 4 years. A couple of small indie films, a villain in a big blockbuster and a CGI dragon in a big blockbuster.

That is hardly over exposure IMO.

And THAT'S the reason you're disappointed in this casting decision. Nothing to do with acting ability, nothing to do with the character, just looks, so yeah, shallow.

In all seriousness, this is Hollywood. Actors and everyone know the score. To be a leading man, you must be attractive. Odd looking people can be tremendous actors, but they are rarely leading men (or women). For people who don't meet the standard of Hollywood, there's the stage, television, etc.

You must be British, judging by your grammar, and are probably pulling for BC, which is fine. But Marvel has a history of being concerned not just with talent, but aesthetics. And BC's aesthetics are sub par. Sorry, but it is true. He would make a better villain than hero, because he's got that weasly thing going on.

Lastly, let's get real. One of the reasons people go to the movies is to see exceptionally good looking people on screen. Male, female, etc. The late, great film critic Gene Siskel admitted as much. How many working screen leading actresses aren't exceptionally pretty? LOL. NONE. I like watching pretty women, too!

Can you a imagine a scene with him and RDJ? That'd be so awesome to see, battle of the Sherlocks.
