you could say renard was one since he had some type of unique ability lol

but I see what your mean none of them were iconic like Jaws or Oddjob or Red Grant, Ross Klebb

Xenia's pretty freaking popular. I don't even know who Ross Klebb IS.

However, I don't think Craig's Bond will ever face off against the cartoony henchmen like Oddjob, Jaws, Mayday or Xenia.

SMERSh was a Soviet organisation, I doubt they will use it in the movies, that would be a bit anachronistic.

Um...they could work something around it, you know. Maybe they could say something like, "the surviving members of the Soviet Organization, SMERSH are seeking revenge on those who defeat them" or something like that, you know?

It just involves using your creativity.

Ironically, even though it was one of the most dire Bond films i've ever had the misfortune to witness, I always thought that Xao had potential as a villain. Then they went and killed him off.

Dammit, nothing in DAD was done right!

I definately wouldnt mind Bond having a recurring nemesis on more of a personal level. Someone his physical and mental equal, but with none of his conscience, much in the vain of Grant or Travelian.

...yeah. i thought it started cool with the whole "Bond-gets captured & tortured" thing.

...then the Ice Fortress comes in, & the main villain looking like some spoiled boyband kid, the fantasy car, and the SuperRobotc Gloves... dumb. hehehe

yep.

i also loved RENARD.

for me, he was like a MODERN Junior Blofeld

that's why TWINE is one of my top 10 fave Bond flicks

James Bond has had "enough screentime", too. Why not see a serious approach to S.P.E.C.T.R.E, SMERSH, etc? I see no reason why we couldn't see an entire series of Bond "remakes", re-introducing the mythos, with Blofeld, Moneypenny, a new M, etc. I'm not saying remake DR. NO next, but what if they just took the important points from the books and took them a little more seriously than previous films did?

Hey, Guard. It's nice to see you around again. I haven't seen you around the boards in a while. Well, anyway, what do you mean by serious? There has been PLENTY of serious Bond films.

I mean, yeah, the Moore era was very silly. And Brosnan had some semi-silly Bond flicks as well but we've gotten serious films like Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, OHMSS, For Your Eyes Only, License to Kill, and GoldenEye

You have to realize this franchise has been around for 40 years. It has to re-invent itself in order to survive. I mean...we all hate those Roger Moore films but those were actually the best approach at the time. The `70s were a different decade. Gone were Hollywood fantasy and replaced with realism. The Bond films along with Star Wars (and others) allowed audiences a balance. They had realism and escapism (sp?). You know? So, there's no reason to remake the old movies. I mean, yeah there's elements from the novels that they never used which could be used but I would not go as far as remake.

"Serious" means taking the psychology of the characters and the thematics of a story seriously.

-Dr. No
-From Russia With Love
-Goldfinger (believe it or not)
-OHMSS
-For Your Eyes Only
-License to Kill
-GoldenEye (believe it or not)

Like I said before...I sort of agree with you but you have to understand that the Bond franchise evolves to stay fresh. We know the Roger Moore films are weak installments but they were perfect for the time. Especially The Spy Who Loved Me.

That's a rather stupid thing to say, considering these movies are centered around him.

Maybe we should have M or Moneypenny out in the field instead.

If it ain't broken, don't try to fix it. That's the problem with 90% of remakes. Goldfinger, From Russia with Love, Thunderball etc don't need to be remade.

If they want to remake any Bond movies, then remake the bad ones like Diamonds are Forever, Moonraker etc.

the blue electricity fon Sun's arm gauntlet was so damn cheesy lol and when ever I see that scene i try to imagine what Brosnan was thinking at that time

"what the hell am I doing? I'm imitating being shocked by blue electricity! this isn't star wars"

The name of the organization doesn't matter although it woul be nice to have smersh. Dont expect to see spectre, McClory is an idiot. I'd be happy with any org that is big and threatening enough. With circumstances being post 9/11 It would be interesting to see the sort of affairs they get themselves involved with.

I'm with S.P.E.C.T.R.E.

I just can't see them legitamately trying to ressurect SMERSH without it looking like something from a Vin Diesel movie(Anarchy 99 LOL) and I'm kind-of tired of other terrorist organizations and crime syndicates that come off as SPECTRE wannabees. I'm looking for a more global threat, so why not bring back the mother of all terrorist organizations and give them another chance to lick Bond again. No lazers, volcano bases or space shuttle hijackings, just SPECTRE the way Ian Fleming created it.

With McClory's death last week, how does that affect the rights issue for SPECTRE?

Sony's got it. And I believe they already had it, from they're previous collaberation with McClory. Since Sony also has MGM, nothing is really stopping them from using the famed terrorist organization.

seeing SPECTRE villians ...would be cool...but new ones....not ones that have been already done.

I am a big blofeld fan since from russia with love ( my favorite bond with OHMSS ), so I would love to see the SPECTRE fight bond again...

That would be cool and I'd like to see a new take on blofeld, even with his damn cat.

I think Spectre makes sense as the Cold War is over and the only true enemy is terrorism, therefore a Spectre type organisation is appropriate.

new terrorist organization... similar to SPECTRE.

different name & villains.
