The Avengers "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be Hemsworthy, shall possess the power of Thor"

I still don't get the idea of Thor being a "dues ex machina", I have yet to see him portrayed as such in any of his media appearances.

I think they were talking about on how they don't want Thor to be portrayed in a way where he's SO POWERFUL, that he could easily defeat any enemy on his own without any chance of him getting defeated. It'd be like saying that; "Oh, don't worry, IF the Avengers lose, then Thor can clean up the mess at the end".

Kind of like how they had the Hulk be the answer to the Ultron Problem in the animated short "Next Avengers". I mean that's one of my pet peeves about that film, since the world goes to hell with Ultron having defeated all of the Avengers, and yet, he gets defeated by the Hulk alone.

While I agree that I don't want Thor nor Hulk to be that, I don't think they will. Even if they don't technically "lose" a fight, they can fail a mission or lose a lot of bystanders in the process etc.

I don't think Whedon would write it to where they could handle the threat alone. He's to good a writer. There is something nasty in store.

Remember that Thor might not be there till halfway through the movie, with scenes in Asgard before that.

True, though there is no question that both Thor and the Hulk are the POWERHOUSES of the team, and could easily be counted as the team's trump cards in a tight situation.

Heck, look at what Thor was able to do with a army of Frost Giants in his own film, while we have yet to see the Hulk really pushed to the point where his own life is in danger.

Chris Hemsworth looks smaller in teaser trailor. Biceps shrunk....

I thought hemsworth looked bigger.

If anybody's a "deus ex machina" it's the Hulk, a.k.a "Mr. beat up everybody".

To be fair, Hulk has one pretty much every fight they've had in the animated universe.

You should be pretty satisfied, it's only right that Thor starts getting his share of victories.

Both are guilty of being dues ex machinas, I don't want either to be the single turning point in a big fight, the Avengers should work as a team to defeat their enemies.

Thor can have some more victories, in the comic book world. I don't want to see it on the big screen where it'll be viewed by alot more people than who read comics, just keep it neutral and I'm happy.

Odinson. Is that Coipel-face I see? I'm terrified :p

I hope there are some scenes in Asgard before Thor returns to earth... I'd love to see Odin again.

Doubt we'll see Anthony Hopkins in Avengers.

Yeah... maybe they wouldn't try to get him just for a minute or two of screentime. I just hope there's not a "where is everyone" feeling if they can't get some of the actors back, even for small cameos.

Wonder if there is some left over shots from Thor they could use with Odin in them or some scenery shots? Would save some money.

wouldnt be suprised if they filmed some asgard scenes for the Avengers DURING Thor. They would already have the sets and actors, they would only be small parts anyway. Plus it wouldnt really take out of Thors budget to begin with since they arent getting paid by the hour lol

I'd like to see Heimdal more than Odin. Like to see Thor's face if Heimdal informs him that he's just spotted Loki on earth.

I see what you're saying, alot of people has seen Thor get pummeled by Hulk NUMEROUS times in cartoons so now people refuse to believe they're in the same league.

...smh

After seeing Thor, it's going to be interesting to see how or even why Thor would take orders from anyone considering who he is and such. I mean, I just can't see the guy looking at anyone (other than his own father) as his leader. Comrade sure..but not Leader.

I kind of expect that's how they would play him in a lot of this movie -- initially willing to regard the others as comrades or allies, perhaps (some more than others maybe). Fellow warriors.

But it seems to me that the moment when Thor says to, say, Captain America, that he is willing to FOLLOW Cap... that that is a huge moment.

I've seen people have the "who should / who do you think will lead the Avengers?" discussion, and some have pointed out that the real answer is, "whoever the person is that Thor says he's willing to follow".

It should come at a time in the movie when enough of Thor's independence has been established that it comes across as a major gesture of respect/loyalty on his part.

(That is, if we get to that point in this movie at all. Things like that banner of hero posters kind of makes me think that they do want Cap to emerge as the leader by the movie's end. But I guess the movie could equally play this all as meeting/set-up, with the major players all regarding each other as allies, but not coming to FEEL to themselves like a team until the very end. It's possible that "who is the leader of the Avengers" would be a question left for the sequel.)

You know what, this just might be the best way to go.

I REALLY like this! Couldn't agree more!

I wonder if it'd be realistic for Thor to at first, try and talk Loki out of doing his evil thing upon reuniting with him for the first time since the climactic events of 'Thor'?

`nuff said. I really would just love to see how they actually feel like a team.
