Like i mean in the ultimates, the liberators who are composed of international members, are the "badguys". America is shown to be the truly good people[despite their flaws], and now they are gonna fight back against the foriegn overlords [who have invaded amercia:( ]. So if i were a young kid reading this, i would get the impression that all these foreign countries are all evil and such. Hell all Ultimate line comics are sending such message on some level. They change white characters black, or chinese, but yet these characters don't acknowledge their ancestory. Janet Pym in the Ultimates is asian, but yet completely ignores that side of her culture. Storm from the classic comics was born and raised and africain, but Ultimate storm acts nothing of the such.

Their is some sort of international racisim imo in the utlimate line of comics. I still like reading them, and think their great, but i am originally from another country. Yet i see in the ultimates my country is one of many to invade good old America.:(

the ultimates is mainly an american project, along with a number of other european countries. so of course if you're getting invaded it isnt going to be by your own people. The liberators are the other end of the spectrum and im not even sure if their people think of them as the good guys (probably).

Really, it's not that simple. The U.S. has created a super human defense initiative. They've made super human soldiers. They've used them solely defensively so far, but with recent American activity in the middle east, that scares alot of foreign countries. What the Liberators are doing is basically a knee jerk reaction.

Also, Ultimate X-Men has noted more than a few times that Storm was born and raised in Moroco. And really, how can she "act" African?

Stop reading Ultimates, its trash.

No, it's not. It's actually quite well written.

I can understand it not being for everyone, but it not being your thing doesn't make it trash.

It really does, because I think its trash.

I think Darthphere hates the entire ultimate line in concept, not because he actually has an opinion on the books on their own merits, am I correct?

I think if Ultimates had been billed as a twelve issue "What if...?" miniseries, you probably would have loved it

They pledged specificly NOT to use any super soldiers for war... and then they went ahead and did it and used them to neuter another country, in direct violation of their pledges to the rest of the world, and probably international laws and treatises. Naturally, the other countries feel the US has gone too far, and talks are no good since the Americans break their word

Ive read Vol.1 and hated the characters, I dont know how one can root for these characters since theyre so unlikeable. I dont know, if it was a what if I dont if I would like it or not, but yes I do hate the Ultimate line but it isnt some blind hatred for it.

but enslaveing the enitire amercain population ? Do you really beleive other countires no matter how mad at America, would do such a outlandish thing?

ok, fair enough. The general consensus is positive, though, so just calling a book "trash" is a bit much

Ill admit, it was meant as a more sarcastic comment, but I saw that it bothered The Question so I played around with him.:D

First time I've ever heard that! Come to think of it, I think that might be the first negative thing I've ever heard about Ultimates.

Honestly? yes, it's conceivable. These are not conventional weapons, they are humanoid WMDs. Every country has reason to fear the US. They've shown they have no respect for international treaties, laws, or negotiations. If they don't like you, they will invade you. Every country now feels like a potential target if they don't absolutely agree with what the US wants.

Are we both reading the same comic? Although the Ultimates are definitely the heroes, the blatant Anti-America agenda is personified in the Liberators. Millar may have missed the mark with you (how's that for a pun? ;)), but I always felt that we were meant to symphatize with the Liberators in some ways and consider their revolt against America as justifiable. Maybe I got this vibe because I know Millar is pretty much Anti-America, but I think the general message is still that America is wrong in this case. Heck, some of the main characters (like Thor) have consistently questioned the government.

Also, 'act Asian', 'act African'? I'm pretty sure Wasp is an American, and I think if she suddenly started wearing kimono robes around the house and offering tea that would just be playing to the fact that she has Asian features. I figure such token behaviour would be far from desirable.

Finally, the Liberators as foreigners makes sense from a story perspective as well. With an American-European alliance as the 'good guys', who else can fit the 'bad guy' role? These countries have been left out and have been betrayed by America. Their banding together is only logical.

They didn't enslave the American people. They just led a strike against U.S. political and military instilations.

I don't think Millar is as much anti American as he is anti government. There is a difference, you know.

yeah, Millar just hates the current American regime, not America in general. That's what the book is about. It's essentially using super heroes as a metaphor saying we're going to reap what we sew as far as forign policy goes, and we're most likely going to deserve it just as the ultimates pretty much deserve what's happening to them in the comics.

Well, I figured it'd be obvious that I was referring to current American politics.
