Why does Superman Always Beat The Marvel Heavy Hitters?

Because Superman is much stronger, much faster, more durable, more intelligent, more versatile (has a huge set of different powers), more popular, and more iconic. He also heals much faster, with the possible exception of the Hulk -- we really haven't seen the extent of Supes' super healing since, unlike Hulk, it is quite impossible to deal serious damage to Superman.

So there. :woot:

Supe can only be beaten by Batman, DC's poster hero for emerging force. Batty is a heck bit more popular than Big Blue these days.

But truely, all US comic superhero characters bow down to the greatest, Superman.

He represents what's good and decent in all of us...or what we're capable of. To have him lose to someone would be akin to saying the virtuous could fall.

Wow...that sounded corny when I read it aloud!

I can't comment on the underlying politics between the writers of DC and Marvel, but there sure seems to be some. In the 70s, Hulk was on a rampage and couldn't even knock Superman off his feet???

Have you actually read that issue, because the Hulk DID in fact, "knock Superman off his feet"....several city blocks, in fact.

Also; Superman didnt even really defeat Hulk, as much as cut off the device that Doom planted to enrage him....

I thought it was the whole, "Marvel characters are street yo" mentality.

No, that's relatively recent and Superman's been pwning up and down on Marvel characters since the crossovers began.

But the mentality back then was "Gee willikers! SPider-Man is just like me!"

Not really. The FF were hugely popular back then, Thor and the Hulk weren't too far behind, and the X-Men were gaining steam.

That's right, Fury was actually a big hit in the '70s thanks to a little guy called Steranko. :)

superman is iconic. he is the father of modern comics. he is the george washington of the comics universe. He embodies all that white america wants to be. Forever young, handsom, employed, married to a beautyfull woman, and powerfull beyond comprehension. He wins for the same reason that all mythical heroes wins. we need him to. he is what we all wish we could be. Hulk is an ugly green monster who seems to draw power from a very dark source. Hatrid, anger, pain. Superman draws his power from the light.

Superman is more popular thats it. Also think about it this way, in 98 precent of the known universe superman is powerless.

Not really. We only know that he's Superman under a yellow sun and about the same as a normal human when he's under a red sun. We don't know what other suns do to him.

78 percent of stars are red dwarfs, so doesn't really matter. I also assume since yellow suns are the soruce of his great powers, other color suns will probably give him alot less power.

who says his yellow sun powers are his "great powers"?

what if he's even more powerful under the light of a different color sun?

In 70 years of superman, and they have never explored hs exposure to different color sun? Doesn't that seem odd to you?:o

dc was too busy retconning his origin and creating multiple earths they never got around to it. :woot:

They can't have him be more powerful under another sun because he's already outrageously powerful under the yellow sun. If it turned out a blue giant somehow made him more powerful, what's to stop him from zipping off to the nearest blue star every time Doomsday or Darkseid shows up? From a story standpoint, you'd want to keep the fights fairly even, but logically, it'd make sense for Superman to want a leg-up, so you'd have to start coming up with contrivances to keep him from finding a blue star all the time.
