Why Does Wolverine get a pass but the Punisher Doesn't?

Yeah the annoying brat with super strength thing just seems like a ploy to have her get to beat up on established bad asses

Anyone who owns Wolverine like that gets a pass from me. Even Molly.

I hear Runaways is supposed to be an insanely amazing comic book, is it true?

It was. Then Joss Whedon and Michael Ryan killed all of its momentum by taking like 2 years to put out a relatively mediocre 6-issue story. Then Terry Moore and Humberto Ramos had what I hear was a decent but unspectacular run. Now Kathryn Immonen and Sara Picchelli are apparently doing a pretty good job.

Personally, I lost interest during the Whedon run, finished that run out, and dropped the series.

Runaways.

Also, I hope Molly dies horribly someday soon.

Pretty much my thoughts.

Not a fan of Runaways but from what ive seen Molly looks really annoying.

Well, I'm no expert, but from what I've seen, little girls are generally annoying. So... it's realistic, right? I enjoy her in small doses, but I still can't finish the Whedon run.

I like how she goes sleepy after using her powers though. I like this kind of stuff - like Wolverine should eat all the time, with the amount of tissue he's regenarating.

Ok this has been kinda bugging me for a while. Why is it that most of the marvel heroes regard the punisher as some ruthless killing a-hole yet Wolverine seems exempt from this criticism? Yes, the Punisher is a killing machine but so is Wolverine. I'm pretty sure Wolverine's body count is at least as much as if not greater than the Punisher's. Wolvie killed more than 3,000 people alone in Enemy of the State (I'm not talking about when he was mind controlled, i'm talking about afterwards when he went on his revenge crusade). Wolverine can be just as ruthless as Frank Castle at times and yet Wolverine gets an Avengers membership card, not to mention his X-men teamates seem to overlook his homicidal tendencies.

I'm aware that Logan is a relatively much friendlier person than Frank but like i said Wolvie's killed A LOT of people. Shouldnt he be scrutinized just as much as Frank is? Your thoughts?

I thought most everybody regarded Wolverine as a ruthless killing a-hole?

If it were up to me he would've never joined the Avengers.

Mostly, it comes down to popularity. Wolverine is more popular, so his fans are going to view him as more heroic than villainous, focusing on his Japanese samurai code or whatever and less on the amoral kills he makes more often than not. If Castle was more popular, I doubt people would be able to use his "mai waifu 'n mah keeds are DED" origin as a complete Get Out of Jail card for his actions. But they might, and I've seen a few diehards try to.

As for Wolverine on the Avengers, which has been brought up here- I never liked it. Wolverine's never been a team player, even after all those Fastball Specials. Just look at his name. "Wolverine." Ever seen a cuddly, friendly wolverine? No? Exactly.

There's no way I'd buy that Wolverine could take all the X-Men by himself. Even with his super stupid regeneration they would all at least be able to subdue him

That's nothing I have a Wolverine comic around here somewhere where he beats up Warbird, Vision, Human Torch, U.S. Agent, Rage, Speed Ball, and other heroes all in one night. Albeit he was being mind controlled, but he still did it completely within the limits of his own power set.

I think it might also be to do with Frank being the ultimate cliche too. Maybe people are sick of the same old same old story of a cop/soldier witnessing his family or friends get killed and then go on a revenge mission. It's been done to death.

Not taking anything away from Frank, I do like him. But that is a fact right there, The Punisher is one of the biggest cliches going.

Yea and that is stupid, nonsensical writing.

I find Wolverine to be the bigger writer's trope. The Punisher is a walking revenge plot, with some plot armor added for good measure. Wolverine is not only on a neverending quest for vengeance with the aid of invulnerability, but he also hails from a long line of fictional amnesiacs. House of M might've changed that, but it's still a big part of his history.

Now that I think about it, why is Wolverine so pissed off? I understood it "some bad **** happened in his past, they took away his memories, doesn't know who to hurt" but he has his memories now. Weapon X is no more he avanged, killed thousand. There's not even the unfulfilled love aspect, since every woman he looks at wants to bone him these days. Why the anger?

Amnesia, unusual hair and name, all marks of a "Mary Sue/Gary Stu" character which is exactly what Wolverine became once Byrne came to X-Men.

They are both killers, neither much better than villians, but seeing Wolverine get a free pass for it and seeing him go over tons of other characters is one of many reasons why I can't read Marvel but so much.

Doesn't deter me from the rest of the Marvel universe, really, but I have tried to limit my Wolverine reading as much as possible for years. Right now I'm content with his humorous blast-from-the-past adventures in Wolverine: First Class. I don't read anything else with Wolverine in it regularly.

I think its just the way Punisher is portrayed... he goes out there and kills EVERYONE!
Wolverine at least saves people and cares about his teamates and stuff.. i rmb one issue of ASM with Punisher and Punisher unleashes this sound thing that hurt Spidey >;-[

Ive yet to read about someone that the Punisher killed that wasn't a scumbag. In the Max books at least.

The Punisher saves people... by killing mobsters. :)

And really, you're mad because the Punisher hurt Spider-Man once? Heaven forbid superheroes should ever hurt each other. Contest of Champions, X-Men vs. the Avengers, Civil War, and every other big superhero brawl were just a series of playful slap fights, after all. ;)

Also I think the big reason that Wolverine isn't picked on is that hes so much into the realm of fiction. The Punisher could theoretically exist and I guess it scares some people.
