before the trailer, prologue and before we saw Bale with a cane we heard rumors that Bruce Wayne will be old and exhausted. i think the rumor now fits with what we saw in the trailer.

so i think Nolan will use the comic as inspiration. Bruce Wayne is 40 years old and in the opening action scene he will get a small leg injury. so he will have a cane for some days.

IMO

Watch him leaving the cell again, two hands on the door, awkward looking turn, left hand leaves the door and immediately reaches out in front of him. Might be irrelevant but his prison buddy and the person behind him are also resting on the railings, whatever that means.

The case for Bane not causing the limp seems to rest on Bane not attacking the Stadium before Bruce returns from the prison, but the Stadium attack would have to have been planned for a certain date anyway, say the first game of the season in September. There's too many unknowns to write off Bane being the cause of the cane injury imho.

Also I think Batman will meet Catwoman before the they meet at ball, I don't have much to back that up though.

Perhaps the police injure Batman...

I think the spoiler of the first fight is real. No broken back, just a beating.

It makes sense that Bruce is in a weakened state prior to his first fight with Bane, but I also think Batman would have had a tough time with Bane even in his prime. Though in Knightfall, Bane acknowledges a front on assault of a healthy Batman was "suicide".

I wouldn't be surprised if that was by the same guy who did the Bats vs. Bane prologue fan-fic. Tries to fit in too much of the imagery we've seen, shoehorning that prologue clip image of Bane setting off explosions behind him for no apparent reason!
Edit: I do think it's likely that moment happens before the fight, but the explosions will have a purpose, like releasing a lot of water or something.

We all know that images of Bruce with a cane and limping were put in the trailers to to either convey Bruces aging since 8 years have passed and or to imply he suffers an injury by who else? The main villain Bane... Maybe the injury is due to a serious fight with Bane, maybe its a work related injury just chasing criminals.. or maybe he just tripped and fell down those long Wayne manor stair cases! lol Its going to be exciting to see where this injury stems from.. all we can do is have fun speculating till next summer....

That made me think of Christian Bale doing the bit from Eddie Murphy's "Delirious" about his Aunt trying to catch herself on the stairs and it taking forever.

Good points. Not familiar with the Bats vs. Bane pic...

Yea... that is one funny bit too... hahaha Lemonade.....

Random Woman: "Alfred! Go get Master Wayne a towel for his head!"
Alfred: "What happened?"
Random Woman: "Master Wayne fell down the steps!"
Alfred: "... AAAAH HA HA HA HA!"

I really hope not and doubt it.. I think it would be lifting too much from the comic, and although the image would be iconic... it would make all those years of training in Asia useless... I mean he's supposed to be able to take on an army of men! lol

He trained against asian ninja's...Bane is Hungarian

Nonetheless... He's trained to fight many ppl at once, but to your point... Bane is supposed to be his physical challenge. Bane isn't afraid of Batman, and has brute strength and savage fighting skills.. The fight scenes hopefully are epic and well choreographed!

I don't think it's impossible that he will break his back. Even if he isn't as big as he is in the comics... Bane could still beat Bruce within an inch of his life (which it looks like he will) before breaking his back.

Tenderizing him before he makes his final move.

lol.

If he wasn't afraid of him he wouldn't have waited until he was completely exhausted to fight him. Batman was so tired he was passing out on roof tops. By the time he fought Bane he could barely throw a good punch. Anyone could have beaten him at that point. The only thing impressive about Bane was how intelligent he was. He quickly figured out who Batman was. He was even able to tell that Jean Paul Valley wasn't Batman when he was filling in for him just by looking at him.

...or maybe its a feigned injury to throw people off the scent of him being Batman.

I don't think that meant he was afraid, but that he employed a strategy.

Maybe Bane is so skilled at what he does, he can break Bruce's back, but know exactly which vertebrae would cause permanent paralysis and which would cause an injury that, while not causing paralysis, would still be very painful and take months to recover.

I could see Bane lifting Batman, cracking him over his knee and then explaining which part of the spine he broke & why, noting that he could've done much worse to him.

Last 7 posts after mine are all good posts! Good points and agreed to most. I will hold my position and say that Bane will not break the Bats back imo lol

I don't know. The movie already features these plot points:

-Bruce going after Bane

-Bruce trying to catch Catwoman

-Possible romantic subplot with Bruce and Miranda.

-Bruce being imprisoned and trying to escape

I don't know how they are going to fit a "Bruce gets gravely injured and must recover" subplot with all of that going on in the movie too.

Bruce might just get a beating from Bane, while Gordon is the one with the broken back

I'd imagine it could be a call back to Batman Begins.

When Bruce finally brings the blue flower up to Ra's Al Gul's temple he's too exhausted to fight and subsequently gets his ass handed to him.

This is followed by his training over a period of possibly several years (?) shown through a montage of footage of him building himself up to Batman standard.

I'm sure they could manage to get across an extended period of convalescence in TDKR in a similar fashion to the training period in BB without hampering screen time too much.

if bane breaks batmans back then i expect TDKR to be a peter jackson type of length film

TDK was a bit too long. The only real niggle I had with it.

A question to me is....let's say Bane fights and beats Batman early in the film, and Wayne will require at least several months to recover and come back. What's Gotham like during that time? Does it turn into a martial-law war zone? Is that when Bane keeps the national guard/etc. out with the nuke? What happens to Alfred and Wayne Manor as Wayne is recovering...and what does he come back to?

I mean, somehow, it looks like there will be a) a period of peace, and b) a very un-peaceful time in a Gotham without Batman because he's beaten up. the time of peace you could kind of see...not much happens...but beating up Batman...what are those months like while he's recuperating?

based on set pics we know that Gotham is no man's land.its a big war zone.JGL(Blake) is creating bat symbols on buildings to communicate with the police. the police is hidding from the henchman and criminals who took over Gotham.
