The Dark Knight Rises Will Dark Knight Rises win some Oscars?

I think most of us are rooting for Wally to win at the very least. The visuals are so damn good!

Some technicals and that's it.

If TDKR gets nominated for best picture I could see the Avengers getting a nod as well...That being said, the competition is going to be REAL tough this year. I think Speilerg will be getting another one with Lincoln.

I think this is gonna be RotK all over again where its gonna sweep everything its nominated for.

This isn't comparable to LOTR's in any way. All of the LOTR's films were nominated for best picture but neither Batman Begins or TDK got a best pic nom. I see it at best getting a pitty nom for best picture but unless it strikes the same cord as TDK (doubtful) I see only technical ones along side that nom.

People said the same thing about Potter and yet the last movie didn't receive a best picture nom and sweep the Oscars.

I could see Wally winning again. Even though they attempted to pay him back for the highway robbery of digital, overheated contrast Slumdog beating TDK's cinematography...they still owe him for it. I was watching it the other day and the cinematography holds up every bit as well as Ledger's great performance. Wally pulled off some phenomenal shots in that movie.

I have a feeling it will receive a few noms, but very little wins.

But imo just noms are a huge thing for a CBM.

Best Picture nominations don't mean what they used to. After TDK wasn't nominated, the backlash led to them expanding the field from 5 to 10. They've dropped it from 10 guaranteed to a "minimum of 5, maximum of 10," meaning they can nominate 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 if they want. When there are more spots available, it doesn't mean as much. So if TDKR gets nominated, it'll be similar to the likes of the Blind Side getting nominated when there were 10 spots available. It's just a very cynical attempt by the Academy to get better ratings from mainstream audiences.

I agree. I never had a problem with only five being nominated I just had a problem with their bias against genre fair and their obsession with making mediocre or only okay movies win.

Or what if TDKR is really good, better than TDK, and it DESERVES a best picture nom and potential win?

Don't be so cynical. It's quite possible.

No matter how good it is, It's not going to win best picture. That's not cynicism, that's reality.

LOTR was adaptation of one of the most praised book in literature history. Oscars commity probably felt they have to give it. But they won't give best movie award to comic book movie. Even if it's best movie of the year.

Terminator II, Jurassic Park and there are many great movies couldn't get that. These type of movies usually gets for effects and such.

If The Dark Knight couldn't get it with all the hype, Rises can't.

Add in the fact that they seem to hate Nolan and you can see why a third movie in a franchise that they have yet to nominate for best picture won't be winning best picture no matter how awesome it is. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't nominated even with 10 pics being allowed.

Aside from the technicals, if TDKR is really good (I mean at least on the same level as TDK), the bald-headed geezers at the Academy Awards might finally cave in and give Nolan a Best Director nomination for his last Batman film, but that will be as far as it goes. It's not going to win anything big.

lolno.

Aside for the technicals, I think the most plausible are a best picture and maybe a best director nod.

The only acting Oscar noms I can see are Hathaway and Oldman, and that's by a long shot. (not to mention Hathaway is already considered a front runner with Les Miserables) The other characters are just heavily masked to be appreciated or simply don't have enough screen time to make an impact.

IF TDKR is as good as I hope, realistically I'd say nominations for cinematography, sound editing and director but with no wins. I feel they might give Nolan the nom for director as a gesture for the whole trilogy if TDKR gets the same critical acclaim as TDK.

The Dark Knight Rises will have some serious competition in any category next year. Don't expect it to just sweep the technical awards when it's going to be up against The Hobbit, Prometheus, Gravity, etc.

Other than Cinematography, I don't think so. Nolan might get a nod for 'Best Director' and Hathaway for 'Best Supporting Actress' but nothing more.

A nod for 'Best Picture' could be possible if TDKR is as critically acclaimed as TDK was, in my opinion.

Nearly 0% chance of any acting nods. No matter how good anyone is with their roles it just won't stand out like Ledger's Joker.

considering TDK should of gotten at least a nomination, and got screwed... TDKR will also be screwed (if it even turns out good enough).

A shame the nominees arent based off of reviews etc.. if so we might have an Avengers nomination :lmao:

Let's be honest, if it is a film of at least the same quality as The Dark Knight it is guaranteed a Best Picture and maybe even Director nod. The Dark Knight was the film that changed the Best Picture format for the Oscars. They will not snub it like that again.

If the film is as good as it's predecessors or better it will get nods for:

Best Picture - Emma Thomas, Charles Roven & Chris Nolan
Chris Nolan - Director
Wally Pfister - Cinematography
Editing - Lee Smith
Sound Editing - Richard King
Sound Mixing - Gary Rizzo
Art Direction - Nathan Crowly & Kevin Kavanaugh
Costume Design - Lindy Hemming
Visual Effect - Chris Corbould

I think it is looking at 9 nominations.
The Dark Knight had 8. I'll say it will be nominated for ALL of the categories that The Dark Knight was nominated for except Make-up and Supporting Actor. It will replace those with Costuming and Director and add a MUCH EASIER to obtain, Best Picture nod.

Underlined are the categories I think it actually has a chance in. Not that it's a front runner -- but it could be a contender.

I'll never understand why these films can't be elligible for adapted screen play -- they are adaptations. I'm also pretty sure Han Zimmer cannot be recognized as it is a score BASED off of the score he wrote for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight for it's not original...but I think that is a judgment call that will be made later.

He certainly did. It may be the best shot Nolan film, though Inception certainly gives it competition.
